A nice store located in downtown. There is a decent amount of parking available around the store. Inside, we are always greeted by the staff. Lots of different instruments and people who know all kinds of things about them. Upstairs they offer rooms to be rented out for music lessons, which is why we are so often there. read more

I went to Carlton's this week to replace strings on my daughter's ukulele. I was staying with family locally and gave them a call to schedule an appointment. They are located in downtown Winter Haven, a code of blocks from the hospital. They had a parking lot and plenty of available parking on the street. I dropped into the store on Wed., late in the afternoon. Although they were busy and had a few restrings ahead of me, I explained that I was visiting and asked if he could accommodate me based on my travel situation. He said, "if you can wait around the area for a little while, I'll put a rush on the order". I decided to grab a bite at the sushi restaurant a few blocks away (keep an eye out for that review too) and after @ 30 minutes, the strings were replaced - thanks again guys! The store is stocked with a great variety of instruments, cases and accessories. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. The prices were very reasonable, in fact they were half the price of what I pay in S. FL! Great experience - I highly recommend Carlton's for all of your musical instrument purchases and repairs! I went in there to pick up my instrument and stood by the counter. I saw four workers standing around on the other side of the store and one at the counter helping the people next to me. The guys on the other side were too busy I guess but not with customers. Whenever the other customer stopped asking questions to the guy at the counter went about his business. I moved over several feet but still against the counter to be sure they could tell I was not with them. Finally they left and the guy turns his back to me. He starts playing air drummer and going about his business. Time goes by and the guy apparently does not want to help me . Then the guy I worked with last time was going by. I got his attention and stated what I was there for. I hoped he was helping me. Finally the guy at the counter asks if I've been helped. I'm feeling very invisible at this point and irritated. I'd have left but I had to get my instrument. I say I'm not sure if that guy is helping me ( the one I just summoned) I ask him. He says NO!!!I Irritated to a hilt that Im feeling INVISIBLE I blew up. I'd suggest going in with a sign that says PLEASE HELP ME since standing at the counter by the register means nothing. All of the staff are very friendly and greet us every time we come in. My daughter takes violin lessons with Mrs Meg Smith. I couldn't imagine a better instructor. She is so compassionate and truly cares about her students. She builds a bond with her students that just simply amazes me. I feel like a bond with your students is extremely important and aides in them enjoying a musical instrument and putting everything they have into it. read more

I moved to Winter Haven from Dade city in 1972. I first came into Carlton Music to find a piano tuner which turned out to be Ben Carlton. While in the store I also met John Carlton and we talked Guitars and Ukulele's for a good half hour. I have never found anyone in this store that was anxious to make a sale and then go on to something else. These people take their time with you to find out what instruments you play and on what level. They have a salesman in here named Dave that can make a Hammond Organ play like it was passed down from Heaven. I can also tell you that they have an excellent service department. Any instrument they have ever worked on for me has been more than satisfactory. Over the years I have met some wonderful people while shopping in this store. A teacher on the drums was Ray Rosenbloom who gave lessons to my son Alan. Ray became a family friend up until he passed from this earth. I'm proud to say I have a Granddaughter working in this store now. As a musician I love to visit this store. Winter Haven is very lucky to have such a full line music store in the city. Very disappointed! Employees are unfriendly snobs. I brought my kid in to have his instrument looked at and they made us feel like second rate citizens because it wasn't a name brand expensive instrument. I have purchased several Taylor guitars, cases, cables, and more. Also I have used their audio repair service and I have had my guitars Set-up. I am extremely protective of all of my guitars and gear but I took a chance on Carlton Music Center a few years ago. Why? Because the staff is exceptionally skilled, professional, polite, and sometimes funny. Product knowledge is superior and this staff has been together for a long time.
