I was an AIM House resident back in 2001 and early 2002. This was a long time ago, back when the…read moreoffice was in the, "Loft," and the residents stayed in a small apartment building. Daniel Conroy and his wife Mae went out of there way to make me feel welcome and part of the family. When I began to have trouble, Daniel set up a referral to a hospital setting where I received a clinicial assessment, was appropriately diagnosed and prescribed an appropriate medication. I will always be grateful to Daniel for this. 25 years later I am now a mental health practitioner myself, highly regarded for my clinical skills and my ability to almost immediately form effective rapport with my clients. Daniel was the fist person I can remember who communicated to me in a way that I could understood that I had the potential to do this. Today I learned that AIM House's residential component has been shut down. This makes me very sad but despite that, when I think of how many other people have benefitted from the methodology designed and employed by Dan and Mae, I am inspired to continue my work with, "high risk clients," such as the homeless, clients who are trying to rebuild their lives following long stays in prisons and veterans living with severe mental illness and/or substance abuse problems. I know many who choose to work with, "easier,"clients but I have chosen to do the the opposite because one thing Dan and Mae taught me was that I could do anything I put my mind to if I believed in it enough and could trust those around me to reach out for support when I most needed it.

This isn't just your average 12 step program. It targets the person as whole using practices from eastern and western methodologies. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and supportive. I would recommend this program to any young adult struggling with addiction, depression and anxiety. Their willingness to encourage you while still focusing on you achieving and maintaining your recovery makes it a top notch program. Of course, you have to want to achieve those goals in order to make them a reality but the staff's personal experience in addiction and recovery makes this program unique in Colorado.

Just the task of finding a Doctor that I felt comfortable with was something I dreaded and that…read morealone, was enough to put me in therapy. But I completely lucked out in finding Dr. Kennedy in this crazy city and I'm really grateful. Though this is my first experience with any kind of therapist, I can tell that he's seriously talented at what he does. I actually look forward to my appointments and feel better leaving them. I understand he specializes in LGBT issues, but that's not what I went to him for. I saw him for family-related therapy, but I suppose it just goes to show how versatile he is. After a month of what I would consider intense therapy at a fast-pace (my choice), I felt like a completely different person, with a better understanding of a situation that had me feeling completely confused and overwhelmed. He's sensitive, understanding and also was encouraging, which surprised me. I didn't know what to expect going to a therapist... maybe criticism, a wake-up call, who knows... but I actually felt like he had a vested interest in my well being and was cheering me on. He praised me on how hard I was working to get resolutions and confront fears and situations that were very difficult for me. But he only gave praise when it was due - which makes it feel more genuine. His office is in a building that reminds me of an old school, and it's centrally located and easy to access from the N or R trains. The waiting area is just two chairs outside of Dr. Kennedy's office and another Doctor's office, but the doors are surprisingly sound-proof. I was afraid that people sitting in the waiting room would be able to hear my loud speaking voice, but I realized while sitting there myself, I couldn't hear a thing. It's a decent sized-room with a sofa, in a professional setting and he always has a full box of tissues on the side table. He also has a good online service for you to communicate with him, book/see/cancel appointments and even text message alerts for upcoming appointments, which I appreciate as a busy individual. I'm not completely done with my treatment, but I know that with Dr. Kennedy as my Doctor, I'll be fine. In such a short amount of time, he's helped me tremendously and overall seems like such a genuine person. The doctor/patient relationship quickly feels as comfortable as a friendship. He remembers all of my family/friends' names that I mention during treatment and uses them himself, which makes it feel so much more personal. I definitely recommend Dr. Kennedy. You can't go wrong with him and if you're looking for someone who cares and someone you can really open up to and share everything with, he's the doctor for you.

He also specializes in body image issues, but is capable to discuss any issue. His office is comfortable, relaxed, and his practice challenges you in conversation, while also making you feel like you are talking to a trusted friend. I had to stop seeing him because my insurance changed (he does take some insurance), but I cannot recommend him enough for both men and women and hope to be able to .
