I highly recommend her. We met her 3 years ago, via local recommendation, and she teaches my 2 kids lessons every week. She is super patient, plays beautifully, and enforces a love of music and understanding of music theory. She knew how to engage them even when they were young (started in 4th grade) and continues to keep my kids dedicated to the flute, even now that they're in middle school. She's flexible with in-person or virtual, and gave lots of valuable advice. read more

Caroline continues to share her enthusiasm for flute and skillful teaching with my son, who is now almost 18. More than an excellent flute teacher, Caroline has become a trusted adult in my son's life. We alternate between lessons in person and via FaceTime, which works well given the many pressures of senior year. I can't recommend her highly enough! read more

She's a delight and my nine year old loves taking flute lessons from Caroline. Caroline brings true joy to the music lessons, as well of course as excellent technique and strong teaching. Highly recommend her! read more

Three years ago when I moved here I was looking for a flute instructor to continue my lessons and I was very Lucky to find Caroline and I have been her student ever since. Actually she is one of my very good friends now! Caroline is an extremely talented and educated flute player and musician. The sound of her flute is truly magical! She is also great in passing her knowledge to her students. I have always found her teaching methods very effective. She is having virtual lessons during the pandemic, and they have been working great for me! If you are looking for a high skilled and caring flute instructor to help you grow, then Caroline is your heaven-sent angel! read more

I'm updating my review from 3 years ago to say that Caroline is still an amazing flute instructor. You will not be disappointed! Caroline continues to provide excellent and caring instruction via FaceTime. She caters her instruction to each student's needs and interests and makes excellent repertoire recommendations. My daughter played everything from popular songs to classical duets with Caroline, all while learning theory, rhythm, technique, and all that goes into making good music. Although my daughter had to stop taking lessons because of her own schedule conflicts, it was a very sad day when my daughter had her last flute lesson with Caroline. Don't hesitate to call Caroline for your child's (or your own) flute instruction! read more

Caroline has been my daughter's flute teacher since she was in middle school (she is now a senior). She has helped my daughter really grow musically and stylistically and meet challenges. She's really great at meeting kids where they are at and helping them grow in their own style. And it's always fun to just talk with her. She is doing remote lessons via FaceTime and it was great to be able to continue lessons with her online. read more

My daughter took her virtual lessons during the pandemic and it was an absolute highlight of her day when she had lessons. It was her first time trying the flute and taking virtual music lessons so we didn't know what to expect . But Caroline's expertise both in teaching an instrument and encouraging kids boosted my daughters confidence in music and and her love for playing the instrument. She does her lessons via FaceTime and I recommend Caroline with confidence to anyone who's interested. read more

Caroline has been giving my middle schooler flute lessons for over a year now and I can't speak highly enough of her! She keeps my daughter motivated and having fun while making consistent progress. read more

Caroline is an amazing flute teacher and just what we were looking for! We found her last fall, during the Covid shut-down and began lessons for our 10 -year-old daughter as a supplement to her school band lessons online. We've had lessons with Caroline via FaceTime, and can't say enough super things about her! She's positive, encouraging and completely knowledgeable. Beyond being a talented and caring teacher, Caroline is simply a joyful and warm human being. :) My daughter has so enjoyed her flute lessons that we renewed with Caroline for this current school year, as well. We recommend her whole-heartedly! read more

Ask any musician, and they will tell you that making the choice to invest in a private music instructor is a critical step in growth and development--no matter the individual's age or experience level. When you're devoting time and energy into bettering yourself, you want to know that you're learning from a friendly, accessible, and most of all qualified, teacher. Caroline Reutter is all of these things and much more. I have been lucky enough to have known Caroline for the past 10 years, and have been her student for 7. I began my lessons with her when I was a mere 6th grader, and continued with her through my senior year of high school. Caroline never failed to challenge me in the pieces she assigned, never failed to help me prepare to my very best ability for auditions or school concerts, and never failed to give her honest and helpful critique and advice to help me advance as a flutist. I can quite honestly say I could not have held my principal position in my high school ensembles had it not been for her help and guidance. One thing that sets Caroline a part from other private instructors is the recital she holds for all her different students at the end of each school year. Everyone gets together in great spirits, and enjoys music from each student at a variety of experience levels. It always turns out to be a great afternoon of excitement and nerves (for some younger students, they've never performed on their own...another great skill to acquire and fear to overcome!), as well as music enjoyed by all. I know personally my mother and father still attend the recitals, even after my going away to college! To anyone looking for a private flute instructor, I would recommend highly, wholeheartedly, and very enthusiastically to learn from this amazing woman. So whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced, young or old, Caroline never fails to provide the very best resources and set the highest expectations for her students. read more

My mom found Caroline when I wanted to start playing flute in 2nd grade and have been taking lessons from her for going on 10 years now. I've pretty much grown up with her as a constant in my week. She is a very kind, patient, and talented teacher, who is always there to help me, whether it be by working on pieces for my school Chamber group, or explaining different tips and tricks for improving my playing. Because of Covid-19, we are not able to do in person lessons anymore, but the transition to FaceTime lessons went very smoothly and are just as effective as in person lessons. I would definitely recommend Caroline if you are looking for a flute teacher! read more

My then 12 year old daughter took flute lesson with Caroline for a summer and greatly improved her skills allowing her to excel in her middle school band. My daughter has a passion for the flute and really liked working with Caroline and found her to be caring and very patient. Caroline worked her on her rhythm and flute techniques like vibrato. I would highly recommend her! read more

As a parent of a 9 year old beginning flute player, I was apprehensive in reaching out for a private tutor for my son. On a whim, at a fund raiser at my school, I won a bit for 2 private flute lessons with Caroline and we were NOT disappointed. After the 2 lessons, we did not return for several months but Caroline reached out to us and asked if we would like to continue and we decided to move forward- the best decision we made! Although we only have been talking lessons for less that 2 months, I can see that my son truly enjoys working with her and so does Caroline! I look forward to building a long lasting music relationship with Caroline and I cannot wait to see what she will bring out in my son. I love her energy and passion! And so glad we found her! read more

Caroline has been a great friend for many years. She is a great flute instructor, who has taught many of our friends children how to play an instrument. I grew up across the street listening to her practice. I would reccomend her skills to any family who wants to introduce their children to the flute. She is friendly, and has a great personality. Kids love her. James W. read more

I have two young adults that have taken flute from Caroline since they were 8. My older son is independent, bold and distractible and he loved taking flute with her. My younger daughter is self motivated, studies hard and is easy going and she loved taking flute with Caroline. I was so impressed that Caroline could find a way to nurture the love of music in two such different children. My daughter still is taking lessons at the age of 17, and I am sure will continue into college. Additionally, she has taught herself two more instruments, I do not think she would have done so without the grounding in music that Caroline imparted. Sadly my youngest chose Trombone, and has dropped it already. Too bad there is no trombone teacher as good as Caroline is on flute! read more

++ (since you can't do a five plus review) :-) My daughter had outgrown her flute teacher but was not ready to move to another - then, she met Caroline at a school event. She came home with a flyer asking if I could contact Caroline and get her lessons. Boy, did my girl make a good choice. Caroline was (she no longer is my daughters teacher - 'cause we recently moved) encouraging, loving & kept the discipline of the class while keeping it fun for her. Most of all is was beyond a flute teacher to my daughter - she was another caring & trusted adult in her life. They can talk, share and play music .... creating a richer life for themselves. read more

the absolute best! I started looking for flute teacher in sixth grade and went through a few before I started with Caroline. I took lessons from her for seven years (until I graduated high school) and could not have asked for a better teacher or friend. She made learning about music and playing the flute fun and comfortable. I am a very anxious and self-conscious person but Caroline gave me confidence in my abilities that opened me up to so many incredible opportunities throughout high school. Even now that I have graduated, we still meet for coffee and chats every couple months and the occasional lesson. I cannot express how much Caroline helped me as a musician as well as a teenager growing up. I couldn't have survived middle school or high school without her. I credit much of my love for music to her and her inspirational teaching style. read more

We found Caroline at the Hope Street Music Studio in Mountain View at a moment where my daughter desired more personalized instruction and a somewhat faster pace than she was getting in her public school music class. We had shopped around for a good teacher and after a few false starts knew we had found a great fit in Caroline. She is extremely patient, encouraging, and makes my daughter excited about playing the flute. She also does a great job supplementing the school curriculum so her private lessons and school work go hand in hand. Caroline's private lessons are not inexpensive, and her schedule availability in Mountain View is somewhat limited since she only has a few days down this way, but for our family we are more than willing to make it work for the love of music she is instilling in our daughter. Thank you Caroline! read more

I am writing as a parent of a student who studied with Caroline from 5th grade through high school. I whole heartedly endorse her as an amazing flute teacher, part of the "support team" that nearly every teen could use, and as an all around phenomenal person. Apparent from the start is her insatiable love of music, and her deep caring and enthusiasm for every one of her students. She truly believes that connection to music is life enhancing for everyone, and she models that principle daily. She is an artist, and as such helps each person rise to their potential through her warm demeanor, humor, sparkle and precision. Anyone who studies with her is fortunate, indeed! read more

My daughter has been taking lessons with Caroline for three years, and she adores her. She looks forward to her lessons! And she has learned a great deal. Caroline inspires her students and never uses intimidation to teach. She is always full of encouragement and positive reinforcement, and that spurs my daughter to aspire to greater heights. She also has been great about trying to accommodate our schedule. I would recommend Caroline to anyone who wants to learn flute, from the youngest player on up! read more

Caroline has been my flute teacher for 5 years now. She is always so nice and supportive, as well as a fine musician. I love her classes.

I have played the flute since the age of five years old. Unfortunately, the teacher that gave me my love for music had to move away, and the slew of uninspiring teachers that followed her almost caused me to give up the instrument, until I found Caroline. Caroline rekindled my love for music and was a guiding force in my acceptance into a more challenging orchestra as well as a guiding force in my transition through middle and high school to college. Through the six years I studied with her, my lessons with Caroline were always the high point of my week, whether it be because I looked forward to playing the new music she'd find for me, talking through something that was causing me stress, or broadening my cultural atmosphere through the many amazing things she's involved in or has contacts with. Caroline has credentials that cannot be surpassed; beyond her paper resume she is one of the kindest, most understanding people I have ever met. She helped me get through one of the hardest times of my life and she inspired me as a musician every time I played with her. I can sincerely say that she is the most gifted teacher I have ever had, and I recommend her wholeheartedly. read more
