After talking at length with a sales person on the phone, my blind music partner and I were assured that the guitar and amplifier we inquired about was in stock. I did not mention that we travel with her Guide Dog (Ferguson) from Guide Dogs For The Blind in San Raphael. We arrived, having traveled an hour from El Cerrito, fully prepared to spend ~$4000, and see if they could order another $4000 worth of gear. While attempting to seat my Blind partner with her pup, a short, young, bespeckled man rushed over and said "No dogs allowed in here." I quickly informed of the "Guide Dog" status, to which he replied "Doesn't matter- you can't have a dog in here". I gently informed him of the law, via ADA, and he repeated, "Doesn't matter, you cant have him in here". At that point, the man behind the counter shouted, over a few customers' heads, that he had allergies and we need to get the dog out. I told him we'll be leaving, but that he should familiarize himself with possible exemptions of ADA rules. My feeling is, that if we had been treated more politely and professionally, we would have been happy to return later, when he was not present, to consummate a win-win deal with a different sales person. Seriously rude treatment from both staff members. This is not a misinterpretation of the exchange; these guys were crude. I am neither vindictive nor litigious by nature, nor is my Blind partner. But in this case, she is seriously considering action. read more

Everybody here is super chill and respectful. As someone who just started playing guitar, i always feel uncomfortable exposing my lack of knowledge when i go to a store, but Danville Music makes you feel right at home. Dave and Lance are especially helpful and very chill. Their Guitar Tech/Repair service is also phenomenal. Wow, this is easily one of the best music stores in the Bay Area, hands down! It's crazy how the Bay is seriously lacking in high-end music stores, which makes Danville Music a rare gem. On March 8, 2026 I spoke to a salesman at Danville Music on the phone and established that he had products in stock I was seriously interested in purchasing that day with an estimated value of $4000. I let him know I was coming from El Cerrito, which is a roughly two-hour round-trip. I am blind and have a guide-dog for mobility. My sighted partner and I drove to Danville. After arriving at the store and making our way to a seating area to await a salesperson, a staffer immediately approached and loudly said no dogs were allowed in the store. No "sorry"' no "please understand", or offer of any viable solution. Basically just "leave". My partner stated that this is a guide dog, and referred to ADA rules, but the man said that does not matter and we would have to leave. At that point, the salesman we spoke to earlier by phone chimed in loudly from behind the counter and said, despite the ADA rules, due to his allergy, no dogs are allowed in the store. That salesman acknowledged that he had spoken to us earlier by phone and that we came from a long distance but still insisted that we had to leave with my guide dog. These men were loud and rude, which drew the attention of nearly a dozen customers. Being so publicly and unceremoniously ejected from this business was humiliating. read more

I have been going here for years to get my daughter's violin for string class. The staff is always incredible - knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely funny! Their process to rent and to return is seamless. They make it so so easy from start to finish. Their rental prices is great and totally painless monthly rental payment. It made sense that people were just hanging out. And a response to Karen..,.uh, I mean Hila. She wrote a bad review because her dogs, really big ones, were now allowed in the store except for legit service dogs. I saw the sign, no pets allowed except for service dogs. Duh. Why is she so entitled? Seriously, respect peoples businesses. And btw, there is NO SUCH THING as a hyper-allergenic dog. Yes, it is a truly expensive, man created breed that command a fortune, but don't follow the false advertisements of many breeders as they usually dont do it for the love of the animal but for the love of the big bucks, so they'll say anything. I made my first trip today to Danville Music and was blown away! I went to check out a specific guitar that they kindly held for me (bought it!) and was pleased to discover my new favorite Bay Area guitar store. Lot's of incredible guitars both reasonable and at Custom Shop price points. The person who helped me (Cameron) even did a set up on my new guitar to my specs and a string change (to my preferred gauge) right then and there! I just brought my first PRS (Wood Library CE 24). After weeks of research and going into other guitar stores, I decided to make the 45 minute trek to see the PRS collection at Danville Music. The store was a bit smaller than appeared online, but boy, was it chock full of quality guitars! I love that every single PRS is updated live in their online store. This made shopping and comparing different models much easier. Lance was great; he showed me about all the models and let me take a few into a private room to try. He was attentive and helpful, but NO PRESSURE... and unlike other guitar stores, the guitars were clean and well cared for. The selection, the team and the quality were great. I already knew driving away I would be back soon. 6 days later, I returned and got my very first PRS which compliments my American Professional II Telecaster nicely. Wonderful store and staff. I emailed back and forth several times this week to get some information about a violin for my son. They were very prompt in their response and very helpful. We ended up deciding to stop in to let my son get a feel for the instrument as well as see what they had. The store is easy to find with lots of parking. Inside is large, well arranged, and clean. There is a large selection of gorgeous guitars on display. Staff is super helpful and knowledgable. Just bought a PRS Wood Library Custom 24 and a Taylor acoustic this week. I'm not used to dealing with a place and staff who make you feel welcomed and not pressured. They have a fantastic selection and the prices are just as good if not better than some of the big retailers. If they can match prices (or beat them) they will do so. The entire staff is great. I moved here to Nor Cal about 7 years ago and Norman's Rare Guitars was my "go to" in So Cal. These guys do not have a bunch of super old vintage guitars and amps. What they DO have is just about everything else you can want from entry level to Custom Shop stuff. New and used. They have tons of swag and all kinds of cool straps etc. shirts too. Oh, lessons. I've been a guitar player for over 50 years and it's always been like being on a used car lot going into music stores. At Danville Music they are patient and really listen to what you're looking for. You can try out an awesome collection of fine instruments and never feel like you're wasting their time. And even if it's not quite time for you to buy yet all they'll say is: "Hope to see you soon!". I got to chat with Cameron about my choices and he was great. Best guitar store in the Bay Area? Probably... Bought a new PRS SE acoustic on Reverb and went to this store to collect in person. I'd been meaning to go check the place out for a while, but hadn't got around to it. Wow, I was seriously impressed! This store has a very thoughtfully curated lineup of brands they work with and they carry a good amount of guitars in stock: PRS, MusicMan, Suhr, and more. Cameron was great in restringing my new guitar and explaining the process to me as this was my first acoustic in about 30 years; then I spent about the next hour checking out dozens of guitars that you just can't find in stock anywhere else in this area. I was recently in need of a guitar for a new church gig I was playing at. I had done research on PRS guitars but after working on them for two hours in their studio I couldn't pull the trigger. Dave (sales guy) was patient with my struggles and brought out a Fender Tele which fit like butter and played really easily.
