I have been giving my business to Carolyn's Valley Tailor Shop for 8 years... I had recently brought in 5 pair of slacks to be hemmed. She was busy as per usual and I let her know there was no rush.... All of my slacks were sadly improperly hemmed. All were very much shorter and the stitching on the hem was too tight and it sadly puckered. I debated bringing them back as 7 years years ago, I did bring a very expensive pair back to be redone... Carolyn had not done the hemming but could see the the stitching was also tight and the legs were uneven. She was rather dismissive and not that respectful toward me... So I sadly realized this was not a route that I could go, especially with all of my slacks done wrong. I also had several individuals who experienced the same as of recent. People are not perfect yet there should be an option when things don't go according to plan. This was a very expensive loss for me. read more

My daughter just got married and I had to have several dresses altered for the event, including the bridal gown. Carolyn was truly exceptional. The quality of her work was great, especially considering the fact that it all had to be done on short notice. The bridal gown was beaded and the work was quite intricate and time consuming. I was visiting family and I needed a pair of dress pants to have a zipper replaced. This was an expensive pair of designer pants. I can no longer wear them. I immediately called the shop and said "help!" I truly thought that she would care enough to help for the receptionist told me to return right away with the garment. The owner looked at my pants and insisted that she had done nothing wrong. I was amazed and stated: "yes you did ruin them. I cannot wear them now...your cut the zipper out, and replaced the zipper making my pants impossible to put on now. They do not fit me now and they did when I brought them in." One can tell because the fabric was zigzagged and edgy. My Dad had her fix some pants for him and she did a good job but they were nothing special. These were $$$ stunning silk pants and I am very sad. I think that if she was a talented seamstress, she could have tried to help fix her mistake. Also, if she had been at all nice I wouldn't have been so aghast. She was extremely rude and 100% uncaring. read more

Had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be taken in and hemmed. It was done quickly and expertly. Very reasonable rates. The alterations were perfect and the dress fit really well. The owner is very straight-forward and no-nonsense and easy to work with. I was very happy with my experience. read more

We discovered Carolyn's shop this year. They're wonderful people, do excellent work (7 mending jobs so far), get things done right away, and are affordable. The shop is about 45 minutes from home but well worth the drive when we combine Carolyn's with another North Conway mission. The ladies at Carolyn's Tailor Shop are the best!!! They helped me with so many things for our wedding. She fixed a suit we had custom made for my husband that didn't fit correctly. I heard good things and went in feeling cheerful. From the arguing when I said it felt too tight, to the snarky comments about the design of my dress, to the snapping at me when I said I didn't want any bustling done to it, I almost left but decided to just ask for simple straps added and find someone else who would not insist on a clinging fit for my light, floaty dress, to do the real work of taking it in. After three weeks I stopped by and it had been sitting there done for over a week - no phone call. I should have tried it on while there but thought it would surely be fine. No. I took it home, I tried it on, it hangs way down my back and scary low in front, the straps are not only way too long they are not even the same length, they are barely stitched on to just the lining making it roll out, not attached to the stronger inside layer... I don't like paying two people to do one simple job and having my time wasted and getting argued with when I go in with a simple request. The only good thing I can say is that the ivory straps match the ivory of the dress. That's the only good thing. read more
