Came to our home over two weeks ago to quote a job to replace flooring with new plywood with LVT flooring. Stated he would like to have the installer come by with him in a day or so to look at the job. We went into the store and picked out flooring. We expressed that we wanted to get the job done the first week of May. A week later we were back in the store and the person we talked to said he got with the owner who stated he call to set up time first of the week. Another week later still no call. Went to the store to take back the sample. The same gentleman stated he would give the owner the message stating we are still waiting on him. Called two days later spoke with a lady about not hearing anything. She stated she Would have him call me. Two days later I stopped by the store, a young girl asked if she could help and my name. The owner came out from back as I was explaining to her that we have been waiting on him for over two weeks. He addressed her as if I was even there. He told her " I will call him Monday". I asked who he is referring too? He stated - you. Couldn't even address me directly. I suggested he not call me and that he business manner is awful. He statement was "whatever".

They had to order the tile, and when it arrived we agreed on an installation date. The installers came when they said they would and did a great job removing old, broken tile and installing the new. They cleaned up after the job too. We couldn't be happier with the service!

Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing from the beginning. The flooring was installed crooked and had to be completely reinstalled after I pointed out the issue. While they did correct it, it was clear the original installation lacked the level of skill expected for a custom home. Several floor tiles also had severe lippage, leaving sharp edges that could be felt underfoot. The biggest failure, however, was the custom shower. In less than four years, the river rock floor began changing color and deteriorating, and the shower floor remained constantly wet. The owner of Gaylin Carpets came out and drilled a hole in the bench seat, which released approximately two gallons of trapped water. They attempted a repair, but it did not solve the underlying problem. We then had three independent companies inspect the shower, and all believed the waterproofing membrane had failed. We ultimately hired a specialty shower company to demolish and rebuild the shower. During demolition, they explained multiple installation failures, including an incorrectly installed Schluter waterproofing system and several other failure points. Our original custom shower cost approximately $20,000 and lasted less than four years. A properly installed shower should last decades--not fail almost immediately. The demolition and replacement cost us an additional $30,000. If this had been a manufacturer defect, that would be understandable. However, this was not a product failure--it was poor workmanship and improper installation. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Gaylin Carpets for custom flooring or shower work. I strongly encourage anyone considering them to ensure the installers assigned to the job have the experience and craftsmanship required and to verify that the company will truly stand behind its work if serious installation issues arise.
