We've spotted this Conad on the way in when we arrived and decided to shop here on the way back. It's not the biggest Conad, but it did have all we needed that day. Some meat, sausages, veggies, pasta, milk, water, soda, beer and wine. Products and quality were good...as expected. We've shopped at Conad many time, always have been happy with it. Prices are fair as usual. The parking lot is a bit small and some customers had to turn back and head somewhere else, parking spaces are tight as well, don't show up in a too big car. Even if you manage to get your message across in broken Italian, your request for a Carrefour store card in order to access the discounts may be denied (they told me I couldn't apply until next month) and they may scorn you if you hand over an ever-so-large 20 euro bill to pay for 4 euros worth of groceries. (I guess I should start expecting the ATM to dole out fivers instead of 20s.) Yep, both these things happened to me. Worse yet, after asking for the discount card and asking if there was another way to get the discounted prices, the staff member said the checkout clerk could just give me the price if I asked. But, when I asked, the girl said no (while a checkout clerk in another city said yes with a smile). In addition, there are enough places in Palermo to get cheap food that you really don't need to come here for more than drinking water. Bottom line: There are reasons Palermo isn't a tourist destination, and the scornful attitudes of these folks may beat the fact that there's dog poop everywhere on the streets. Am I proud of my Sicilian heritage? Not if I factor in my several scornful trips to this market! Walk on!
