I always like going to the local supermarket to look for items that are specific to that country. Carrefour is a supermarket chain from France though. Of all the five or six different food stores I went into on a trip to Portugal and Spain, the Carrefour market was my favorite. Good selection, fresh produce, it was a good store, decent prices. I think they must have expanded into several buildings because you'd turn a corner and then there was another 90° turn in another direction with more stuff ! It was pretty cool exploring their space. They also had one of those European flat ground escalators that could take a shopping cart up and down as the store was two levels. I didn't need any help, but there were plenty of employees, stocking shelves, etc. read more

This market is smack dab in the center of La Ramblas. Go here before to check prices before visiting the more expensive and glossy Mercat La Boqueria. Tons of variety, beers, produce and charcuterie. If you're thinking of gifting, think about spices, ham, canned seafood or pates. These travel well, are light and inexpensive. We tried the sardines, and mussels. The Escabeche or spiced varieties were great, plain ones were just okay. Tried Iberian Ham pates and the Carrefour brand was preferred. So were the smaller spice coated sausages and thinly sliced salamis that were vacuum packed for travel. Traveled with all these items and no questions all the way back to Maui, Hawaii. If you have a refrigerator, beers, fruit drinks and produce are a good buy. read more

Love this market!! It's has everything one needs to make dinner and pick up supplies that you need for extended stay in Barcelona. The prices are excellent and the quality of products are excellent. I love their fresh press orange juice and pomegranate juice. As you enter the store, stop by the deli counter to try some Iberian jamon and pick up a few packs to enjoy in your apartment or hotel room. Their fresh baked baguettes are a steal at .45 Euro!! Also, big 1.5 gallons of bottled water is only .42 Euro. Don't bother with the small convenience stores as they charge double for almost everything you can find here. Remember to bring your own shopping bags or you will pay a small fee for bags at the store. Overall, a clean, organized, high-quality supermarket with most everything you might need in Barcelona. read more

If you're a tourist, this is a cheaper, less amazing version of La Boqueria market right down the street. But if you need something right now, in proper packaging, with brand names and not something you can immediately eat, this is the market for you. It's surprisingly large inside, with three levels. The aisles are nice and wide, and the store has a wide selection of cheap-o souvenirs by the checkout section. The alcohol selection is pretty great up in here, with lots of beers and wines to choose from, locally and imports. They have a bunch of prepared foods, so if you're blushing at the restaurant prices along Las Ramblas, this is a quick way to save some Euros. The prices were a bit higher than some of these Super Mercats you see, but the quality and selection was the best I saw in Barcelona. If you go down to the basement, you can see the ham selections and how they slice it thin, and have the real deal hams you probably can't take home to the states with you. I understand this to be a French supermarket. read more

I made 5 visits to Carrefour in two days. One time was only to use the free WiFi, but there's no denying that this place is pretty darn convenient. Carrefour has nearly everything you'd expect to find in a supermarket except organic food, which I did not see here. Prices are generally not bad, and some things like eggs are cheaper than how much I pay back in California. The store is large and spans two floors connected by a pair of escalators. Signs are primarily in Catalan, but some of them have Spanish and/or English translations. If you really need to know what things mean, you can hop on the WiFi and use Google Translate. One thing that tripped me up is that things without barcodes (namely loose produce) need to be weighed before you get into the checkout line. For these, look at the item's sign for the item code (labelled as "tecla" meaning "key"). Find an electronic scale nearby, put the items on, and type in the code. The scale will print out a sticker showing the weight and price, which you affix to the items. Because of this, the cashiers here seem to have an easier job than cashiers in the US! With these tips, you have all you need to shop successfully at Carrefour. Note that this place and other markets and most shops are closed on Sundays. Plan accordingly. read more

This supermarket is a real lifesaver for anyone staying for more than a few nights in the Plaza Catalunya area. Water is critical while walking around BCN in the summer. At one little market on Las Ramblas, we were ripped off for E$2 for a liter of water. I swear the clerk was about to put E$1 right into his own pocket! At Carrefour, we got a giant 5 liter jug for less than E$1. We refilled smaller bottles every day. We also found fair, non-touristy prices on beer, wine, E$4 cava, bread, fruit and an onion tortilla. A tortilla is one of the national dishes which is often served at room temperature throughout the day, not just breakfast. We also found some plastic utensils and paper cups in the deli area. It can be crowded and busy, but just be patient. NOTE: you need to get your fruit weighed and priced in the produce area. They don't do it at the register like in the U.S. read more

Carrefour is conveniently located along Las Ramblas to stock up for all your grocery needs! As a tourist, my grocery needs is probably snacks, wine, beer, water or Jamon Serrano/Ibérico. You will find here at a non tourist rip off prices which I really appreciate! Definitely worth visiting if you are staying in the hotels in the area to pick up whatever you need. read more

You want it, they've got it, in four sizes and five varieties. A good spot for visitors who prefer not to have to go out to a restaurant for every meal. They have a wide range of prepared salads, sandwiches, entrees, sushi, soups, fruit and vegetable drinks. I was in Barcelona for a week looking to eat light for most meals - those churro and chocolate breakfasts are tasty but tough on the waistline. Instead of buying new pants, I kept a selection of merch from here in the hotel and checked out many of the local markets as I walked around the city. This one was the largest. Prices were reasonable. Turnover is high and fresh made items are clearly dated. They also have a good selection of drugstore items, wine, and most of those "oops I forgot..." goods. Checkout uses the single queue system, with one at each end of the store, so it's quick to pay even at busy times. I wish US markets would pick up on the small rolling baskets - they're much easier to use than hand baskets that can get old fast when you load em up with heavy items. read more

Yelp 100 Challenge 2018 - 108/100! So you've just survived the mass of humans in La Boqueria and ducked many a selfie stick from people getting the perfect instagram photo with some jamon. You just navigated through the crowds walking down Las Ramblas and you are parched. Carrefour is the market that is located right on Las Ramblas and is structured I think to cater to tourists. You'll find the essentials: water, toiletries, etc. Prices were okay but they aren't trying to gouge you like some other places. A safe bet. They even have Spanish donuts here and a lot of nice knick-knacks to bring home was souvenirs. The location is what matters as this is a reputable market chain in the center of the touristic Las Ramblas. Good to stop here before heading back to your hotel or getting back on the hop-on-hop-off tour buses. read more

Loved having Carrefour so close to our hotel. It was convenient for buying water, snacks, and wine. It was extremely busy every time we visited, but the check out lines went fairly quickly. Fun browsing on both floors. We found the prices reasonable. Especially nice buying wine to enjoy in the hotel room, having water at a reasonable price, and having fresh fruit to snack on. read more

To be truthful, I only came in here because I was scouting for a bathroom in the busy streets of Barcelona and was attracted by their taste testing stations and thought that there has to be a public washroom in a grocery store. Even though I couldn't find the washroom, I tried some awesome steak and sushi. Wait, sushi?! Spain has sushi sold by a Chinese speaking girl in a supermarket, WHAT?! This supermarket was organized in two levels and is on the street of Las Ramblas. From what I heard, this is a French supermarket. My wife and I are spending a month in Barcelona and were struggling to find a good super market to stock up on groceries. We had tried several markets around the area but had found high prices and limited selection. Once we got to this market, we realized just how much we had overpaid at the other smaller grocery stores. There are 2 levels to this store, lots of selection, and better prices than you'll find in the smaller grocery stores. It's also close to La Boqueria so you can hit up both places at once when planning a nice dinner. And they carry my favorite sangria! ("El Prior Sangria") Just keep in mind that it is closed on Sundays and can get pretty busy with large lines at check out. read more

This Carrefour Market is pretty touristic, which isn't surprising because it's located on the heavily tourist-populated street of Las Ramblas. The two stories boasts a selection of groceries, pre-packaged meals, toiletries, and household goods. There's even stands selling ice cream macarons and freshly squeezed fruit juices at the entry of the store. However, the grocery variety was a bit disappointing -- there's only a small area with your most essential vegetables and fruits. Also, the prices at Carrefour are a bit higher than what you'd expect to find at other markets such as Mercadona, which has a better quality to price ratio. I like the cleanliness and organization of the market, however the high prices knocks the rating down to just 3 stars. read more

Living in the center of Barcelona could be a wonderful experience, but when you have to do your groceries it sucks. There are no supermarket, not even mini markets. There are several "Paquis" but prices are normally expensive to fill your fridge. But I have to say that the carrefour is a good place to do the main shopping for your week. The produce section is good, and even the meat section is good. I do not recommend the fresh fish section because they look so lonely over there!. Stay away from rush hours because it gets really crowded with tourists (it is in the Ramblas, what are you expecting). Get there early in the morning or early in the afternoon. If you go there at noon or at 8-9 expect to do a good line. read more

Nice grocery market, really big and has (I think) everything you might want to buy. It's right on Las Ramblas, and as far as I can tell, the prices are pretty fair. There are fresh fruits and vegetables, cured meats, crackers/chips/candy, fresh bread, drinks (alcoholic, juices, soft drinks, refrigerated and not), and so on. There's a bakery and a juice station inside, as well as an Asian wok eatery in the middle. The checkout lines are slow though, as there are often a lot of people and not a lot of checkout lines. March 10, 2018 My husband & I were staying on Las Ramblas at a hotel equipped with both a micro & a small frig. We loved this store! We had no complaints about service or variety of food. The veggies looked like they were grown on steroids: huge & luscious. The vacuum packaged ham made American prosciutto seem like a poor cousin. We bought cheeses, meats and crackers, along with some yummy empanadas at a "to go" area near the front. There were salads, both fruit and veggie, all made up to take out. We bought a fruit one and found it to be super fresh. We wish we had checked out the Customs rules about taking some things home to Boston because now we don't know where to get the incredible thin sliced ham that we are missing. Next time for sure! Worst customer service ever!! We shopped more than 50 euros here and had a full shopping cart. I took the cart to the front of the store to put our stuff inside the taxi (right in front of the store) and when I was getting into the taxi the store security came after me shouting and cursing and showing fingure! To their customer! Basically saying why you took the cart outside! First of all, I'm a tourist and there were NO signs (at least no english signs) saying that I couldn't take it to the front of the store. Second, worst case, you could take it inside yourself or ask me to take it in instead of shouting and cursing infront of the store. These guys have no respect and no culture whatsoever! Excellent and easily accessed supermarket right on Ramblas! I forgot to bring conditioner and wound up with not only that but herbal toothpaste, corn nuts, chocolate digestive biscuits, pantiliners, a small smoothie, a tuna sushi sandwich, awhole wheat bread roll, pack of sliced cheese and a huge chocolate cherry truffle filled chocolate bar all for less than €18!! There are two floors with both stairs and an elevator in between and for those who drink alcohol, they seem to have quite a selection. Friendly multilingual staff and express checkouts complete the picture of my go to supermarket while in Barcelona. read more

It's ok. Has wide array of needed goods: veggies, fruits, boxed goods, home utensils, you name it. Unfortunately, the facility is poorly controlled, as there are ripped water bottle packs of vandalized bottles and trash spread around corners throughout the store by visitors. With that, the space is quite limited to the huge influx of customers, which makes it difficult for you to even shop sometimes.
