Do you know how to test transmission issues, a test drive also checking the dipstick for burnt fluid smell is an indicator, it's almost impossible to catch a transmission that's going if it's only showing intermittent signs because you must duplicate the customers complaint and without the proper automotive technology it's practically impossible to catch transmission failure the carriage trade knew my vehicle had transmission issues knowing I wouldn't know that until after I purchased the vehicle driving it off their lot, also structural damage, in the state of Pennsylvania it literally states that a vehicle with structural damage is deemed unsound and unsafe which is also one of the few things that's covered under arbitration laws so imagine my surprise when a third party mechanic told me a vehicle that I paid over 2000 dollars was structurally unsound and the carriage trade knew about it, they sold me a damaged unsafe vehicle that I purchased for my wife I'm so grateful my wife wasn't injured or worse killed due to the carriage trade public auto auction negligence, after I visited the third party mechanic I immediately went back to the carriage trade and I was told it was (as is) and the only thing they can do is run the vehicle back through the auction for someone else to deal with, so consumers beware! This business do not do good business and will take your hard earned money and not care about the position they put their consumers in. They presented a nice car and after a bidding war with their employees (as well as other dealers) we paid nearly $3,000 plus taxes, fees, title & insurance. The car we bid on was driven through the line. The next day, they gave us the keys to a rusted beat-up car with extreme drag on the front left wheel. It couldn't even be driven out of the parking lot. Discovered that it had TWO broken front axles: TOTALLY UNDRIVABLE. They swindled a single mother with two young kids who worked two jobs overtime hoping to get a car to drive 30 miles to work overnight and to take her kids to school. Then the swindlers suggested she let them re-sell the car for her to get "some" of her money back. read more

SCAM, SCAM, SCAM OPERATION... Be very careful when you go to this scam Auction. First of all they have people who work for carriage bidding on cars with you just to increase the overall price of the car. Second most the Dealers who sell cars there have someone present just to increase the price of the vehicles their selling. I was bidding on a car there and me and another guy who I couldn't even see was bidding on the same car and when the price exceeded the amount I wanted to spend I said I'm out. Now check this out the auctioneer looked at the other guy and he must have signal to him that he owned the vehicle or something and then the auctioneer quickly turned back to me and said congratulation you won the car. They sold me a car that had no key to open the trunk, it also had a dead battery and the remote transmitter didn't even work to open and lock the vehicle. Most of their cars are garbage and they need major repairs like an transmission replacement or an engine rebuilt to function properly. To Put it short this place is nothing but headache and should be shut down due to unethical business practices that goes on from day to day. I could go on but just thinking of all the disgraceful low down dirty tricks they play at this place of business is shameful and the people who work there are like trained zombies with no personalities. Its very obvious that this is a family operated business and I truly feel sorry for those who work here who are not family and the BS they must go through from day to day. Carriage trade had GSA consignment I attended (Bel air was prior GSA vendor I bought through, and I thought they were swell). First eyebrow raised were cheap tires on govt vehicles. Other GSA cars I've looked at had quality with good tread. What gives? Pre auction listings had "make an offer" option. What's that about? Who am I buying from - Uncle or Conicelli? Home page says Conicelli was storing cars in 67 and had idea to auction them And I invented the sandwich. More like that Pesci character in The Irishman had Conicelli auction cars PPD towed, and anything else they got their hands on - like cars taken to settle gambling debts. Besides Joe and Tim, everyone there had a terrible attitude. The place is highly disorganized. And dirty. We walked in while half the power was out and the woman at the desk told us to "walk out into the lot, look at the 'buy it now' section", which wasn't labeled whatsoever. When my husband asked how we test drive a car she told us that the keys are in the car and just to hop in and drive it. When we went out to the lot, no one was there to meet us, so we followed directions and got into a car to test drive. Only to have a man approach us that claimed he worked there, telling us that 'no one told you to drive the cars and I'm gonna drive this back where you found it'. He then drove us to the correct unlabeled "Buy It Now" section. The car we wanted claimed a "Clean CarFax" with no accidents. My Credit Union found not one but TWO ACCIDENTS REPORTED on the vehicle. The driver side front wheel was flat. The car was dirty. After deciding to purchase the car, we came back another day to drive it one last time. The same woman at the desk with the bad attitude had someone drive up the car. A man drove up to the cafeteria, didn't say a word to us, walked away and left the driver side door open and walked away. We purchased the car. We had 24 hours to have the car checked out. I can't speak much from a purchasing perspective, but from an employers perspective I was mortified of my time here. I was hired with the manager knowing I had zero experience. He liked my personality and decided to give me a try. First off, let me say that I fully understand that PA is an at will state and people can be let go with little to no reason. I was initially hired to work in the title department and as I mentioned before I had zero experience. The woman that was supposed to train me was always complaining that she was too busy and she would get frustrated when I asked her for help. I would always do things wrong because I didn't know what I was doing at it came to a point where I was afraid to ask anyone for help because they couldn't be bothered. And this wasn't a job that could be learned super quickly because of all the small details. When it wasn't working out in the title department my boss decided to let me take a stab at working the office. There was no real guidance. The people that worked in the section would help me, but would get frustrated because they had so many other things to do and little time to train a newbie. I feel like I was set up to fail. Many of the employees were gossips and I know they were talking about me. I am a smart and educated person and it was so disheartening. I made many mistakes during my short time there because again it wasn't something that can be picked up super easily because of all the details involved. One day I was called upstairs with my boss and one one of the floor managers and they decided to let me go because it wasn't working out and I wasn't picking it up quick enough. I was really frustrated but I accepted it. I made an appointment with human resources (who happened to be my bosses wife) and I explained everything that happened. She was friendly enough but I could tell that she just didn't want to deal with me. She said her and my boss were talking and thought that I would be a good fit at a new dealership that would be opening in a few months because of my personality and my ability to deal with people. I was hopeful and I felt a little better that I potentially had a job shortly. When the time was closer and I emailed her to check in her whole tune changed and said they thought I couldn't handle it after all. I was so angry. They could have just told me from the beginning that this was not suitable for me and they were sorry. I would have been mad but understood. For months after this short experience I had massive panic attacks and a bout of depression. Things were handled so poorly there and it was really unfortunate. As I said at the beginning I knew I had no experience and these people had years of experience but they should have saved themselves the trouble of hiring me from the beginning. There were a handful of people that were very nice that worked there but the rest were questionable even if they were good at their jobs. No tolerance for new people. read more

They (Conicelli) will start the bid at an extremely high price in order to get what they wanted on their lot and use their employees (as well as other dealers) to bid against you. After high fees (possibly includes dealer fees as well), you nearly or do pay for what you could have bought off of the lot (depending on the type of car). As much as I didn't want to, Currently buying a car from Hertz. Just didn't feel like dealing with any dealers crap. I was an employee here for a little under three months, and that was way too long. I was hired based on my resume and my performance at my interview. I had zero experience in the car industry or title industry and there were very few people who were willing to help me learn. The person that was supposed to to train me always complained that she didn't have time to help me learn. When I sent titles to get flipped they often came back incorrect because I didn't know what I was doing. I really tried to learn. There were only a couple of people that were helpful and wanted to see me succeed. When they decided I wasn't a right fit for the title department they moved me to the middle section to give me a chance at that stuff. Again it was more to learn and not many people willing to help me. It is a very fast paced environment on auction days and the day after. The employees were also very cliquey and would talk about me behind their backs. The day I was let go I was really upset because I truly feel I didn't have a chance to succeed. Three months may seem like enough time to learn a job, but not this type of job. During the time I worked there I even went to hr which is in another building to explain what was going on. The woman told me that there was a new building opening up shortly and I would be a good fit for customer service there. When the time came their tune completely changed. I've been going to and watching Carriage Trade for about 2 years. Great concept, great idea for dealers, not good for consumers. There are very few deals to be found but they are few and far between. Because so many of the people at these auctions are large and small dealers, the prices are inflated not to mention the fees. You can't drive the cars, only start them and look them over. Most cars need some work so after the inflated cost, fees, and repairs, not to mention no warranty. You could buy from a private party for much less or probably better off going to a dealer. They also changed the web site so you can't even do a good search on the cars anymore. read more

The cashiers and the rest of the staff are very nice, and very good at explaining the entire auction process. The bidding a very intimidating process, for me at least. the first time I went there, I had a list of 4 cars, and didn't win any of them, What I did was bid early to get the jitters out of my system. It wasn't until my second trip up there that I won one of my targets. A few things: 1. you're gonna overpay by a few hundred dollars if you want to win 2. research the year model of your targets for defects (ex 04-06 transmission problems in TL) 3. be very thorough in your inspection, and know your car stuff. 4. stay with green lights 5. debit cards have $2000 limit that can't be lifted, so you're prob not gonna be able to drive it home that night unless you pay with cash. come back at opening the next morning to pay with a cashier's check and take it straight to your mechanic Also, the 27 bus stops at the metroplex mall which is a short 10 min walk to the auction. cut through the PECO area for a safer and shorter route. the PECO is located right at the entrance of the Metroplex, you can see the PECO shortcut from google maps). If everything goes well, you'll end up saving $1000-2000 from buying from dealer, after making repairs. Save the vins of your target cars. You'll find them popping up in dealerships around the city. I think it's pretty fun to look at how much the dealers mark up the cars. I've seen some frame damage cars pop up at dealerships without any mention of the said frame damage (and priced so as well). shady shady. Overall, a great place to get a car, but there are tons of junk here too. I would def come back in the future. read more

Don't buy or sell a car at here! I tried to sell my car at the auction and had it sabotaged. They let people into the cars beforehand. Someone sabotaged the car so that it would sell for cheaper. I ended up with a few missing fuses and coolant all over the engine. Not only that, Carriage "misplaced" the car so it didn't even show up at auction. I would highly recommend not buying or selling a car from this place. They have some shady people on the lot and you don't know what you're getting. read more

Purchased a vehicle with no check engine light on however once I drove off the property after paying the light came on and two serious codes are on the car. Codes were cleared prior to auction to give false information to me the buyer. This is probably not carriage trade that does this but the actual dealer selling the vehicle. read more

i went there early on a monday for an auction and saw a guy cleaning the car i was to bid on. when i started to bid on this car someone was else was bidding and i turned around and it was the guy cleaning the car. apparently working for the seller to get the bid up. i confronted him and he walked away. i asked around and it seems to go on alot. read more
