For those of you who can't make it, they hold them at various other locations throughout the week. Because I have every other Friday off, on the weeks I'm not working that day, I'll go to the one in Bloomfield instead. They have a decent selction of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and cheeses. Not all of it is organic though. Even so, although you might pay a little more than at Giant Eagle, the produce here is way better. I don't know--I guess fruit and veggies are always better when they have flavor. And of course, it's always fun schlepping home a shopping bag full of produce and my briefcase on the bus.

It seems as though every week a new vendor is added. Some of our go to's: Logan Family Farms - they have the best steak selection. Trust me, once you have their steak you will be spoiled and never want anything from the grocery store ever again. Bad AZZ BBQ- if you're coming for BBQ be sure to get there early. He has been known to sell out quickly. Fridays only in May, then Things start rolling in June-August. Best part, this goes until November; it's covered, mostly enough parking except be prepared when corn season hits. Last Friday, the first market, Janoskis brought, French carrots, fennel, Sorrel, plants, tons of lettuces and cabbage- just to name a few. The AMAZING wood Street Bakery had their fresh breads, cinnamon rolls- so much good stuff that's hard to choose! And a new vendor came selling beautiful tulip bouquets. This has been a family favorite stop for over 20 years that we've lived nearby.

We arrived a few minutes after 5:30pm and there was a bit of a crowd already, but not the same magnitude of farmer's markets in the bay area. We only picked up a few veggies and fruit, all fresh and crispy, though one of the ears of corn we got had some smaller kernels compared to the rest of the bunch. Also managed to get some baked items, some gifts to take home, plus freshly cooked chinese dumplings! Besides the fresh veggies, these were a highlight considering there isn't much local asian food to choose from and definitely some of the better made dumplings I've had. Not too salty and not too oily. Great place to pick up a quick dinner or some last minute veggies.

Farmers@theFirehouse is a producers-only, all-organic market featuring local, small farms and businesses. We found beautiful herbs and greens, scallions and cut flowers, eggs and artisan bread, humanely raised meats and poultry and pastry. We were especially impressed by Paradise Gardens and Farm's handcrafted goat cheeses, which the delightful couple manning the stall was pleasantly peddling. This market may boast few vendors, but it's true that quality always wins out over quantity. Farmers@theFirehouse proves that in spades.

They have several varieties of pickles and also some jarred sauces that are all delicious. The one downside is that they sometimes aren't open during their posted hours. I was told to check social media for the most up to date information, but did not see anything about closing early the day that I went and they were already closed. Overall, a wonderful place to get produce and support an awesome local farm.

From December to February, they are open on the third Saturday of the month from 9:30 AM to noon. They are located in the parking lot of St. James Church. This year was my first time attending this farmers market. Vendors had set up tents and were selling vegetables, meats, fishes, eggs, breads, pastas, kombucha, olive oils, sauces, honeys, jams and jellies, prepared foods (e.g., pierogies, quiches, Greek foods, tamales and empanadas, snow-cones), alcohol, flowers, ceramic dishes, etcetera. My husband and I purchased a few items of food from two vendors. We could not do all of our grocery shopping here, but this farmers market was a decent size. The vendors and the other customers were very friendly. My husband and I felt happy to try new products and to support small, local farms and restaurants.
