Quay Vipers are a thriving motorcycle club which has been running for about nine years (Est. Sept…read more'01) and is based in and around the Carrickfergus area. They're a great club whose members repeatedly support charities including Northern Ireland Hospice, Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary and Ireland Air Ambulance, (amongst others) and are interested in charity fundraising, ride outs, racing, rallies, social events (rallies/concerts) and touring. They are affiliated to the British Motorcycle Federation, the National Association of Bikers with Disability& Carrickfergus Rugby Football Club where their meetings are held every other Monday evening at 9pm. If you're interested in joining come along and speak to one of the members. This year will be the 9th Annual Snake Bite rally held at the Benone complex from the 24th - 26th September 2010. I've been to a few of their rallies in past years, back in the good old student days and I can tell you, they are AMAZING! There is camping facilities available, there's live entertainment (previously the likes of Flash Harry - their dummer Stevie Shanks is a biker) and there's a great wee bar held inside the marquee. There's food stalls about the place where you can sit and chill out before you get back to the craic. There's often a custom bike /streetfighter show as well as a range of stalls which sell biker gear /clothes / souvenirs for both the old and the young. For the campers, the site has toilets and showers with hot water, sinks etc. If you're in to bikes then don't let this one pass you by. It'll be one of the best weekends you'll ever have, trust me!

The singular member of staff is the same dodgy fella that you see everyday on the Jeremy Kyle show. His nicky nacky nashers could shred beef but to a poor standard and his pinball eyes could put a Korean to shame. QE2... more like 3 of the 2 if you ask me, as in 3rd degree burns on my left... twice. I wouldnt go there if you took me. But all in all its pretty decent. Apart from everything I mentioned... Not bad lighting. But it doesnt chalk my cue. Its a pile of balls... no pun intended... just kidding it was.

I've been in here a number of times, usually to functions in the function room upstairs, but it's not somewhere that I would ever make my local, as it is pretty much an old man's bar! They do have a pool room, just off from the downstairs bar, which is cool as I do enjoy the odd game of pool, and most of the bars in Carrick don't have a pool table, however the pool room is rather shabby. The staff are reasonably friendly, and the drink is cheap enough, so you would be hard pushed to dislike this place - it's just that if you are under the age of 50, it's not a very happening place to be.

I attended a party at the weekend at the Rugby Club in Carrickfergus. I went with a totally open…read moremind as to what to expect as the last time I had been in here was over 10 years ago! We came along early so that we could have our dinner in the restaurant within the club, called the Albany. We got a table with absolutely no problem at all, and the menus were already there. There was a fantastic selection of food on offer, such as lasagne, burgers, goujons, spicy beef noodles etc. We all decided to go for the 10oz steak, and all of our steaks were cooked exactly as we had requested. They came with mushrooms, peas and tobacco onions on the plate, and a side (we all either chose mash or chips) and a sauce (pepper sauce for me!) The food was delicious and really good quality, reasonably priced, and came quickly. As for the rest of the night in the club, we had an absolute blast. Great range of drinks, quick service, great surroundings - I definitely won't be leaving it another 10 years before I return!
