They're moving the location.. if the advisor told me in the beginning they'll be moving to new location. I wouldn't even spent my time and gas go apply. I know the new location at the 1st day of orientation after I already opened the iPad. Therefore, I got go through the whole pain of dropping classes. The school new location not fit my transportation and schedule...unfortunately, I opened the iPad with school locked function can't reset the whole iPad., I don't really need it and I'm not sure if I can resale it. I struggle so much to talk to anyone about issues in this school. Everyone talks to me as I am a kid and not like a grown up with my owns kids. They made it so difficult for me to continue, instructors, but mostly management or administrators had made me almost quit/drop out. If I could go back I would have gone to a different program. Any time I brought up issues I was ignored and even talked to with so much attitude that shocked me! I always made sure to communicate with everyone, and they will continue to bug me about the assignments. I let the "professor" know that my fist day of Extern was moved to Tuesday and not Monday like the rest of the students (even though I emailed her prior to due date of time card) she kept telling me my time card was late and proceeded to give me a zero on my assignment. After letting her know again that I was unable to complete the assingment monday night but will have it Tuesday night, they let me know that they had too many sutdents to remember who and what is going on with each. Everyone at the school is a joke, you can tell they are there just for a paycheck and don't care about their students. Also the instructors curriculums or methods or outdated to our current medical field regulations!!! Ive been in Medical field for over 10 years and they proceeded to treat me like I had no idea what I was talking about. Even got defensive when I questioned their methods. I am almost done and will be free from this school...but for anyone starting to look into this school, make sure you look into other programs. The only good thing that I got from here was my externship, my supervisor knows how bad this school is and she makes sure that we get to learn everything we were supposed to learn in school during our externship. She is actually taking her time to set us up for success. I just learn about a program that would have cost me less and the staff there were amazing. Worst school I ever even consider enrolling to. So sad, our instructor got up and left a month ago and guess what it's been a month and a half almost two and still no instructor. Why is it so hard to do virtual schooling with an ACTUAL MBC instructor?! No it's not hard. They just want their paycheck. Yeah long story short they rob you of your money and time and education. So upsetting that we go to class twice a week to be doing the exact same work from home. Oh and get this, random substitutes that don't even know what they're talking about. Homework that hasn't been graded for a month and half. Quizzes that are correct but marked wrong to deduct your grade Hmmmm yeah... some college you definitely wanna stay away from. read more

They take in more students than externship sites. There is nothing in writing that is guaranteed an externship site or job remember that. They are profit driven the school cares nothing about you as a person. I went eight months and I have nothing to show for no certificate for the veterinary assistant program. The externship site I wasn't allowed to do anything they didn't care about the school liability insurance. There was no respect for the school and the externship sign off sheet was outdated with obsolete procedures. They didn't get me a decent externship site. Don't go here RUN! I really love the stress-free and positive environment; everyone is so nice and you feel like you're part of a family. The hands-on learning is my favorite part because you get to experience right away what it would be like on the job. And I thought things couldn't get any better but the hours are really convenient, not too long and we get long weekends! I'm in the pharmacy tech program with Ms.Tracy and it's genuinely great learning from such a pro. Overall I'm extremely happy I finally found a school that fits everything I was looking for! I attended Carrington College Portland campus and graduated December 2015. I now work at nationwide known clinic. When I enrolled in veterinary assisting progran an then started in April, I was very excited to learn a career I've always been interested in. I was lucky enough to start at the beginning. The first few days went by smoothly. We were giving our schedule/calendar with our class time and what would be happening that day. After the few days, we were told we had a mandatory meeting to attend after school that day without any heads up and weren't given a specific duration of how long it would last. As you can imagine, it made it difficult for someone who to be at work afterwards. About three more mandatory meetings without notification happened as well. The homework amount that we were required to do on a daily basis was ridiculous. Most of the packets we had to complete were from a different book then what we were given. On many occasions, I had to look up answers on the Internet because they weren't in the books. Almost everyday when we graded our homework, it was an argument with the instructor about the answers. The lab days were a plus, given the fact you could bring in your own animals. However, it was not very beneficial because the animals you will help in clinics are not comfortable with you and often don't act the same as they would if you were really in a clinic. We were given a packet that we all called the bible. It had everything we thought we would do on lab days. However, more then half that packet, we never even went over or talked about. In clinic lab analysis is one of the things, I never learned while I was there. In fact we never touched the machines. Including the anesthetic machine (which is extremely important for a vet tech OR assistant) As each new unit came, we had new students arrive. Now this is one thing that bugs me a lot. On those lab days, after the new students would come in, it turned into more of the older students becoming the teachers and spending more of their learning time teaching someone else. And it was EXPECTED of you. The administration was a joke as well. They push you into enrolling on the day you want a tour. They give you all the paper work and push until enroll right there. They were more concerned about getting paid and avoiding students then doing what their job requires of them. When I had gone off to my externship, I wasn't allowed to pick a clinic in washington. I had a clinic picked for me. On externship, you are required to complete 180 hours of in clinical experience. I spent more then half of those hours standing and just observing. I would ask if I could help with anything and the answer is ever got was to clean. I never drew blood, learned what a surgical tech does, anything about diseases related to the area, nothing about reception, nothing about medications, nothing about triaging rooms. All in all, I DO NOT recommend this school to anyone. It is a horrible experience and waste of time and money. I got my job because of my retail experience. Not because of a $14,000 certificate. read more

Okay - I'll preface this by saying that Apollo has changed their name to Carrington College, and that this is the same review as I posted for that listing. Free dental cleaning and x-rays is pretty dang awesome. Especially if you're on a shoestring budget - which I'm pretty sure at least half of the residents of Portland are - free isn't something to be sneezed at. Additionally, everyone is friendly and helpful, the clinic itself is clean and well appointed, and the entire process is a pleasure - at least inasmuch as having your teeth scraped by pointy metal bits can be termed pleasurable. That said, make sure you've got some serious spare time on your hands when you make your first appointment. If time is money, then I paid through the nose, as it took four appointments if two hours each to get through the entire process. These folk are good, but they are students (supervised) which means they'll take their time. read more

Ms.Rochelle dental assisting is an excellent teacher she really motivates and gives you that extra boost of confidence. The schooling hours are amazing and fit with my right schedule! I am so grateful to attend such an accommodating school all the staff work so hard including a big shout out to ms.spring, mr.randy,ms.anna, ms.paige and the rest of the carrington crew! Carrington really put learning and earning a degree or certification in perspective for me that I can and am able to achieve the things I thought I could never! Would 100% recommend Also the comments about having too much homework is ridiculous... This school is former Apollo college...it had to change its name when it lost all grant funding from the fed government due to poor job placement. They gouge you for high tuition, give you a degree that isn't transferable to any accredited university and no one will hire you if you get your dental hygiene education from this school. By then they have already milked every cent of your financial aid out of you, and you can not get more if you try to go to a legit community college later. Watch them change their name again in a couple of years. Trust me I've been in the profession for over 20 yrs. It's a quack school read more

I went there looking for information about the veterinary assistant program. I've never been treated SO well in my entire life. I'm not even a student and I got treated like I was and I was so special. The woman helping me stayed an hour over her scheduled time. I'm hoping I can go there and get the funds to become a student there. The teacher I met was so nice, and all the students looked extremely happy and were nice as well. It's definately a school I want to go to. All the staff is so helpful.. Such a great experience. read more

Currently attending school in the morning vet assisting class, and I LOVE IT. Tawnya Cantu is my instructor and she has made my education so much easier. She actually cares about her students and how they're doing in class. She treats us like adults instead of children...which unfortunately our class is full of. In my opinion they are young and do not like to follow rules or be reprimanded. Tawnya has a great attitude towards everyone in class, regardless of how they treat her. She is easily the best teacher I've ever had, she takes time to make sure we understand, is willing to go over things, and is extremely positive in correcting or helping students. I can't say enough about Tawnya, she is an excellent teacher and I would recommend Carrington to anyone who was interested in furthering their education read more

I am beyond impressed by the students at the dental hygienist school at Carrington College in Lloyd Center. The gal I go to is only 21 and is amazingly confident, competent and personable. I'm not going to tell you her name because I don't want her to get booked up (selfish? Bite me). I will tell you that Becky & Christine are also awesome. But really, I think they're all probably awesome. The dentists and hygienists who oversee the student's work are all super competent and empathetic. I recently had a composite, tooth-colored filling done ($30!) and for some reason was having some sensitivity even after a couple of shots of anasthesia. They made sure that I was *completely* numb before proceeding. Does it take longer? Sure. But it DOESN'T HURT. In the past when I've gone to my regular dentists, when they give you the anesthesia shots, they do it quickly and that hurts like a mofo, right? They don't do that here. The students take their time, use plenty of topical to numb the area gettting the anesthesia and listen to your concerns. In addition to free cleanings, they also offer fillings (silver or composite) and professional teeth whitening. The facilities are clean, modern, quiet and comfortable climate-wise. The staff are all super nice and helpful. The x-rays you'll receive before they work on you are comprehensive and they do provide bibs with full coverage, including the neck (thyroid) area. Oh, and FYI for ladies: don't wear makeup when getting a filling--the students utilize "dental dams" and with the anesthesia, you'll drool. read more

I'm wondering how these people giving these great reviews even got the students to clean their teeth in the first place. My boyfriend went in twice and never had anything done-- the first time they wouldn't touch him because his blood pressure was too high, and the second time his BP was better but all they did was look in his mouth and make notes of what he needed done and say "ok we'll call you when we have an opening." Seems to me they're just discriminating against him because his teeth are in such bad shape--he has several cavities and a lot of discoloration and yes even some missing teeth. They probably just wrote him off as some tweaker bum who doesn't give a rip about his teeth, but if that was the case why the hell would he be there in the first place? We were told this was a great place for low-income cleanings and basic services but apparently you can't look too low income or they'll just make up some excuse not to treat you. As for calling us when they had an opening (for a filling!) its been several months and no word. I don't understand what the problem is--all he wanted was a cleaning and some fillings which we were willing to pay for and he gets treated like he's a hopeless case or something. We've both been so busy with school and work that this got put on the back burner but I'm going to call them tomorrow and get to the bottom of this. There's no reason at all for them not to have treated him when he first went in and if they had some problem with treating him they could at least admit it in a professional manner instead of playing some passive-aggressive little snob game. I'm hoping I can write a better review in the near future but at this point my impression is far from positive. read more
