I had a very poor experience at this barber shop. After my appointment, I had to leave to retrieve my cash (my chip was not working) and returned maybe 5 minutes later. When I came back, I politely raised a concern about my haircut, specifically that he did leave a noticeable bald spot that I do not have. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the barber immediately became defensive, argumentative, and dismissive. Rather than listening or trying to understand the issue, he flat-out denied any problem and insisted that my hair was "thinning," which was both inaccurate and unnecessary. (All I did up to this point was mention what he did) I explained that I am very familiar with my own hair and would know if my hair was thinning, I want to also mention that I'm 21, but the conversation continued to be met with resistance and attitude instead of any willingness to resolve the concern. He then insults me saying "your hair is thinning everywhere". At no point did I raise my voice or act disrespectfully--I simply expected a reasonable, professional response. The interaction ended with me being waved off without any attempt to acknowledge the issue or offer any form of resolution. I'm not sure if it was because I'm Hispanic or if he's just a very upset human being. Other than that, the haircut still sucked, the lines weren't straight, you can still see the lines in my hair that he didn't fade out correctly, he also cut too much off the top. read more

Had a walk in appointment, I never know what I want done with my hair as a guy that is lazy with styling it and the barber that saw me did a great job giving me a haircut that looks good styled or plain. I was so into it, I even went for the sugar scrub." Carsey's has none of these things. No sugar scrub, no massage chair, no pedicure, and none of the guys are named "Cara". Best of all, you won't spend hours getting a haircut. Their haircuts are exceptional and fast, $18 gets you in and out and on with your day. Bonus points for an authentic experience with random pictures and headlines on the wall dating back over 50 years. It's great, just call and make an appointment. Appointments aren't mandatory but they're usually booked up so it's best to make a call even if the appointment time you want is only an hour away. They've never started my haircut more than a couple minutes late, so it's important to be on time. If you're reading this and thinking to yourself, "This is wonderful, but I really wanted a pedicure to go with my haircut," no worries. This place is on the Main Street in little Athens, Ohio. Was in Athens for a cousins wedding and I forgot my trimmer and shaving blades so went looking for a barber shop. Walked in, was greeted with a hello by one of the barbers and then there was this awkward silence. I guess they expected me to say something and I expected them to ask me - how can we help you ? Anyways, I told them I don't have an appointment and asked if they do walk ins-one, that's when one of the barbers quickly got up from his chair(he was busy with something when I walked in) and said "of course" This barber was a little older gentlemen(probably the oldest among everyone there). Was quick and made sure I got what I asked for. No cuts or bruises, a job well done. I had asked for a clean shave on my head and my beard to be trimmed and shaped. He kind of did a free hand job with the shaping - just used a use and throw razor(I was expecting him to use a blade) but turned out ok. 3 stars - one taken away for their lack of interest when I walked in and another for the not so professional job. 3 out of 5 is my rating read more

I have gotten my hair cut 3 times at Carsey's. The first 2 times (both appointments with Brian), it was great; the haircut and shave were what I wanted and the conversation was enjoyable. However, the last time I went, Brian had left and a new gentleman had taken his place so I gave him a shot. Suffice it to say it was not a good experience. In the ~5 minutes it took him to cut my hair, he: (1) couldn't work the pneumatics on the chair, (2) turned the clippers on before attaching the guard, (3) didn't rotate the chair one time (the clipper's cord was pulled taught more than a few times), (4) thinned only one region of my hair, (5) didn't fade from the sides to the top, and (6) left bangs over my forehead (I'm a man with a pretty generic short haircut... no need for bangs). In the end, I paid the man, walked home, and used my clippers to re-cut what had just been done. First 2 experiences: 5 stars, last experience: 0 stars. read more

Great old-school barber shop. I get my hair cut by Brian, the younger guy. All of the barbers there are good guys. The best part is the hot shave on the back of the neck. Also, if you want free donuts, get a haircut on Thursday mornings. read more

I coudn't be more pleased with the haircut and beard trim I got today. The grand total was $23 and I can't remember how it broke down exactly, but the barber who served me was a younger fellow with a real pleasant demeanor, kind of like somebody in Mayberry but he wasn't too "aw shucks" about it. He picked up that I'm (sort of ) an academic and told me about this book he's reading (I won't go into it here but I've heard of the book and would like to read it myself) and more importantly his work was top notch. He had my shaggy ass lookin' proper in 20 minutes and you can't beat that. And yes, they have a barber shop pole or what have you outside! Haha -- perfect location for lunch or beers downtown. There are a couple barber shops closer to campus and I can't comment on their quality - but this was worth the three-block walk. read more

This is the second or third time I have given very specific instructions to different barbers about what I wanted and received the same cut, which was nothing like my instructions.
