The fried chicken dinner is the best in town! 4 stars because their draft beer tastes funny.

We visited the beautiful Catholic Church and visited with Tim who has worked at the church for about 15 years. He was very nice and has a lot of fun info on the church and town. VC is an old silver mining town and it still looks like it did way back then. Wood boardwalks through town with lots of gift shops . We visited in the off season but starting in May there are all sorts of things to go. Train rides, old time gun shows. It's definitely a tourist town but a fun one. The drive up was very pretty. Ended up at Mark Twain Saloon and it was a great stop. Great looking old bar. Bartender was fun. Had sone whisky and a beer. Visited with a couple locals and had a great time.

In the last year the took over the space next door to the south. This space has a small kitchen for snacks and some gaming machines, making the original area less crowded. The old school bar and decor is a step back to days when miners would come in for a whiskey after hours of searching for silver. On non event days it's nice to enjoy the great staff. During events the Twain can be quite popular and busy.

We went to the restaurant inside the Gold Dust Casino in Carson City. There was a little wait to get the host to seat us. They were doing double duty as the cashier as well. The smoke in the restaurant is less than it is in the casino, as far as smaller casinos go, the smoke wasn't super bad. We got seated and drink orders taken. I see they have a prime rib special available 7 days a week for $16.99, not just on Friday's and Sat. like some other casino restaurants, plus, you don't have to wait till 4pm either, available at 11am seven days a week! I went with that, medium rare please. Someone else ordered the breakfast, "Little Star", basically a standard 2 egg with hashbrowns and toast and sausage for $7.99. One of the crew ordered the "Wrangler" burger, a double bacon cheeseburger with onion rings in the burger, served with fries. For appetizers, we got the onion rings and the loaded potato skins. The food all arrives and everything looks scrumptious. My Prime Rib was a decent size cooked as ordered, served with a baked potato. The appetizers were good, I actually like the loaded skins with the melty cheese and bacon. The onion rings were a smallish portion, but I guess it was just $4.99 so there's that. The Wrangler burger was quite a sight! He said the meat was real good and seemed like bigger than the two 1/4 pound patties on the menu. I'd come back here again, this is a new revamped menu from years ago.

I frequent many dining establishments across Fernley, Sparks, Reno, and most recently Carson City, and from our experiences, Gold Dust West stands out. The employees we've encountered consistently provide good to great customer service and genuinely understand the value of repeat customers and long-term business. They almost always have a wait during dinner hours; however, tables turn quickly and the kitchen keeps up with demand. We've never waited long for our food, which says a lot during peak times. I honestly wish this level of understanding and execution could be instilled in some other nearby cities here in Northern Nevada. Grateful shout-outs to Rebecca in Guest Services, Jelly our server, and Jason (J) the bartender at GDW Casino. And at The Grille at GDW Casino--thank you to Manager Bryant, whom I truly appreciate for taking the time to have a conversation, Host Ashley, and our great server Aquiles. Also, kudos to the chef and kitchen staff for consistently delivering good-quality food in a timely manner. Great service, great teamwork, and another enjoyable visit.

If you're looking for a polished, modern, five-star hotel experience... stop reading now, turn…read morearound, and book yourself a Ritz-Carlton somewhere else. If you want authentic Wild West history, charm, character, and an unforgettable stay, then the Silver Queen Hotel is absolutely the place. This historic hotel dates back to the 1800s and is famously known for being haunted--and full of stories. The owner is a lovely woman who you'll often find tending bar downstairs herself. She's incredibly knowledgeable about Virginia City's history, current happenings, and yes... a little local gossip too . She also owns the Cobb Mansion B&B and truly embodies the spirit of this town. We adore her. We stay have started staying here every New Year's Eve--this was our second year, and we've already booked all of our rooms for next year. That alone should say a lot. The Silver Queen is rustic, antique, and unapologetically historic. There are no modern amenities like A/C, TV, or Wi-Fi--and that's exactly the point. This hotel was adapted from historic living quarters and offers a genuine glimpse into what Virginia City was like during the Gold and Silver Rush of the 1850s. The walls are thin (of course they are--it's old!), the rooms are quirky, and the entire experience feels like stepping back in time. The rooms are clean and have everything you need for a short stay. Would I stay here for a full week? Probably not. But for a night or two during special events--absolutely perfect. Virginia City hosts several saloon crawls throughout the year and they are an absolute blast. We try to make it to all of them, though sometimes we can only coordinate one or two. We'll be staying here again for the next crawl, 'The Devil Made Me Do It' Valentine's-themed saloon crawl. We always dress up for these events and staying the night at the Silver Queen is part of the fun. The Silver Queen always participates and always shows up in style. The bar downstairs is fantastic. Cocktails are very reasonably priced, and the staff is friendly, accommodating, and fun. It's exactly what you want from a historic saloon. One honest note: during our most recent stay, Room 11 had a noticeable moldy smell, and the carpet near the clawfoot tub was damp. While not surprising given a bathtub on carpet in an old building, it could definitely use attention--either deep cleaning or replacing the carpet with tile or another moisture-friendly option. Aside from that, the rooms are historic, funky, and immersive. As a former Nevada history teacher--I can confidently say this place is worth visiting. Virginia City itself is a historic marvel, literally built into a mountainside, and the Silver Queen is right in the thick of it all. The Comstock Lode silver mined here was so rich it helped end the Civil War and earned Nevada its statehood on October 31, 1864. Inside the Silver Queen, you'll find the iconic display of the "Silver Queen" made of over 3,000 silver coins, all minted from silver mined beneath the city itself. It's incredible. Add in the charming wedding chapel, and it's easy to see why so many people choose this place for unforgettable, historic weddings. Bottom line: This hotel isn't meant to be fancy. It's meant to be historic, and it delivers 110%. We love the Silver Queen Hotel & Bar, will always be regulars, and look forward to returning year after year--especially for New Year's Eve and local events. To be honest, we come to Virginia City quite a lot! It is a really fun place to visit and always has the most entertaining events that one would never see elsewhere! We live in Reno, so we are only 20 minutes away. We drive through here on our vintage car rallies and stop for drinks and lunch. We visit for special events. We will come up just for fun! Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates history, character, and the real Wild West.

The walls in the room are thin with gaps in the door with the floors so there is light that comes in from the hallways. Again, I need to be explicitly clear that it is a historic establishment, and they honored the space. None of these things bothered me, but are worth mentioning! My downside was that the electric plugs didn't really work and it made it difficult for us to charge our phones. And the next morning I did find a stain on my bedsheets. For that reason I took off a star. This was truly a one of a kind experience and worth a visit.

Ok, are you ready for a good review on Jackpot Crossing? Well, here ya go!…read more Coming down the hill from Virginia City we were attracted by the "Slot World" sign so we stopped in there. Mistake. The place had "some kind of smell" and in my opinion, it just wasn't very good so we were out of there. As we left the parking lot we saw Jackpot Crossing behind Slot World and went there. What a difference! Now, sometimes I have ideas about things I would do if I owned a casino, and if I walk into one that is doing one of those things, then that casino scores a lot of points with me. For example, one of those things is I would have a self serve soda fountain. Getting a "free" soda from the drink girl is nice, but your playing your machine, giving her a tip and it's not really feeling "free." But a self serve fountain? Free and you can get as many as you want. That's a great start at taking care of your customers and it's the first thing I'd do. So anyway, we walk into Jackpot Crossing and what's the very first thing I see? A free soda fouantin right there! My first thought was "whoa! It doesn't get any better than that" but the second that thought registers on my mind what happens? It gets better than that. Way better! Right next to the soda machine was free coffee. But that's just the beginning. Next to that was a cappucino machine with four different types, including hot chocolate! And it didn't end there. Next to that was a machine with half and half and three other types of creams for your coffee. Now the mind is boggling. The soda machine is a lot to ask for but what they have here just crashes right over the top and and completely breaks away. Never in my wildest dreams would my casino have had something like this (but now, after seeing this, it would). This is so classy they even use glass glasses instead of paper cups and nice mugs with Jackpot Crossing on them for the coffee. You know, you go to the other side of the bar and there are two holes in it and a little "sneeze shield," which seems to suggest they have maybe at one time given away some kind of food item there, or perhaps have plans to. I'm not saying to expece this, but from what I've seen so far I wouldn't be surprised if one day this happened. After experiencing this and then thinking about it again, I imagine that if I walked in the front door again I could, not quite, but almost see a big red neon sign that says "Welcome to YOUR casino...Make yourself at home!" flashing brigthtly. That's just about what it amounted to. Anyway I was then pleased to find some machines that I really like to play and while I didn't hit anything really big, I did play for over a couple hours and ended with a little bit more money than I started with, while, of course, not going thirsty. I wish at least that could happen at every casino experience, but I'm pretty sure we all know better than that. Towards the end of our visit, I had an idea. I grabbed an Orange Crush (because they had a really nice selection of sodas there, not just your basic "coola," "lemons lime," or "Dr. Skipper," you know, stuff like that) and poured a little half and half in there and had a sort of melted down orange float, and it was fabulous! Yes sir, free ONLY at Jackpot Crossing, to my knowledge. At the end my buddy went up and asked about players club cards. A guy named Cliff helped us, and he was a pretty cool guy. We were asking if there were any special deals and he pulled out a paper and showed it to us. It was covered with great coupons and he said they will send it to you when you signed up. Usually I'm not too up on that but what he showed us was REALLY worthwhile, and I'm looking forward to going back in a few months. Then they started discussing my pal's experience. What I didn't know was apparently he had hearlier gone up and broken a $100 bill and left one of the $20's on the counter and walked away. Appparently someone (Cliff I'm pretty sure) picked up the bill and chased him down and gave it back. I'm not saying other casinos wouldn't be honest, I'm sure they probably would be, but hey, here was a real life demonstration of this casino and this guy being this way. And finally, the ambiance was terrific. It's dark inside and kind of cozy, like it would be a great place to come in and cool off and escape the desert heat and glare, and on a cold, windy and maybe snowy day to come in and thaw out with a hot cappucino. WOW! Jackpot Crossing adds ideas to the casino of my dreams if I were ever to own one. I hope you'll go there and try it out because hospitality like this, at least the way I see it, takes care of everybody instead of just a few jackpot or drawing or contest winners, and casino owners who try to do something like this should be encouraged to keep up the good work. So go and give 'em some business! Jackpot Crossing, see you again in six months! (And no, I'm NOT the Owner's mom, just a happy customer who hopes they can keep this going).
