After a sales pitch, I got nearly $2K worth of filler and the result was absolutely nothing. When I asked why I was told it was my fault, that my face changed shape because I must be ill. Excuses, excuses. There was no offer to re-do and certainly no refund! I now realize I have no way of knowing what was in that syringe. I received a text from the downtown office (not a bill) this month for an outstanding balance from a July office visit in Royal Oak. I made an appointment in July to purchase a laser package. I made the package purchase. I wasn't treated the same day. The did not ask for an office visit fee. The appointment was on the 15th. 5 months later I am contacted. I have had two treatments, and a balance was never mentioned nor have I received a bill. When calling the office speaking to someone is not an option. It is very difficult to respond to unanswered phone calls, robotic and anonymous text messages sent by a nameless individual. This is so nonprofessional. Then I was texted that if I wanted to speak to someone on the phone, I had to make an appointment. I work as well, and my time is limited. I was sent a coy of a service ledger. I asked did I have to pay for coming to the office and purchasing a package no response. So, it appears that I am being charged an additional office visit fee when I come in for a treatment which is prepaid for. Wasn't the office visit for a 20 min treatment one and the same? This is a first. I have never gone to a dermatologist paid for a treatment and had to pay an additional separate office fee. I was told that they were behind in billing due to the holidays (the 4th of July). The holidays just began. I try to patronize my own and there is always an issue. read more

Dr. Carter Snell has been taking good care of me and my son's skin for the past two years.

I did not want to leave a negative review but after the third consecutive issue and communicating with the staff, I find it necessary. Dr Carter Snell is superb and my experience with her has always been pleasant. She is patient and knowledgeable. She's helped determine issues I've had no success with other dermatologist. The negative is the front staff, scheduling staff, and billing manager. My very first appointment haunted me for months as the billing manager repeatedly told me that I did not have active insurance. It took months and several calls/voicemail messages stating "you have to pay the balance as your insurance is not active". My other physicians had no issues with billing my primary and gap secondary insurance. On my second visit, I received another bill. My insurance information was provided but was not billed. When I called the front desk stated they didn't have my insurance on file and I would have to resubmit. After resubmitting I received a text stating they apologized as they did have it on file but it was inactive and I would need to make payment. I can't make this up. The process is very frustrating. I received another call stating that it was their mistake and they would correctly bill my insurance. Just seems unprofessional to "lose" sensitive information and then repeated call a patient without correcting their issue and then blame the patient. I had a follow-up procedure schedule on a Tuesday at 10 AM. I was never told when I scheduled I needed to arrive 30 minutes early. The office texted me at 5:05 PM the day prior to my appointment stating I needed to arrive 30 minutes prior to my appointment at 10AM. I did not see this text until 8AM. I contacted the office as the earliest I could make it was 15 minutes early. I took time off work for this appointment and they canceled the appointment. Even after this- I wanted to finish treatment I started so I arrived at the next appointment to the receptionist asking if I received an appointment confirmation from a week ago. I looked through my texts and emails and did not receive anything. I was in consistent contact with the office regarding prescriptions and the insurance issue aforementioned but did not have record of an email or text regarding confirming the appointment. Apparently my appointment was canceled. Receptionist said they could still fit me in and to call 24 hours before future appointments to confirm appointments. If I scheduled the appointment why would I need to call the office 24 hours prior? Waited 45 minutes to be seen as the doctor was out. I was not made aware of the wait time. Today I had a follow up appointment at 8:30AM. I called at 8:00AM to confirm and left a voicemail as there was no answer. I then texted at 8:04. I then called again at 8:10 and 8:15. I did not receive a response until 8:55 stating the late policy. I had already returned home as I did not want to waste any additional time. As initially stated, Dr Carter Snell is great. However, the scheduling/front desk is disappointing. Therefore, I do not plan to reschedule or revisit. Hopefully changes are implemented. read more

I was referred to Dr. Snell by a good friend that is an existing client. I made contact and scheduled my initial appointment for two months later. Once I arrived at the center I felt I was transported to the spa. The sounds of Motown flittered throughout. The staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. Dr. Snell herself is phenomenal. I had a very pleasant experience as a first time patient today. Dr. Carter and her team were very welcoming and pleasant. It was apparent that Dr. Carter was knowledgeable in my areas of concern. I appreciated her taking the time to thoroughly address each concern. Her team also took the lead in ordering the recommended prescriptions so all I have to do is pick them up from the pharmacy. Overall I am pleased to say I had a polar opposite experience in comparison to the dermatologist I went to a few years ago which I felt was a complete waste of time. Dr. Brittany Carter-Snell has amazing bedside manner and impressive credentials. I am confident in her abilities as a dermatologist and would generally recommend her based on my single appointment at her practice. Why not a perfect rating? I have a few minor concerns. Many patients, understandably, won't mind the following issues so this serves as a "heads up" only for a select few who share the same idiosyncrasies as me. *When I visited, in January 2018, the office did not desire or care to collect patient social security numbers, which is great. The problem? A staff member will take your picture with an iPad prior to the doctor's arrival in the exam room? This bothered me and I was caught off guard by this practice. I left with the impression that I didn't have a choice. I don't like taking pictures, and I also hate the idea of my face being associated with my private medical chart, particularly one that can be assessed by persons who are not Dr. Carter-Snell. The young woman assisting the doctor could not explain the office's policy very well. *There is a medical assistant or some such present during my exam. She took notes and photos of my skin condition for documentation purposes as the Dr. administered my exam. This, too, caught me off guard. I had another concern that did not get addressed because I did not feel comfortable bringing it up with the young woman present. I am private and do not care for the presence of support staff who likely have little-to-no medical training during my exam. *This practice is fairly modern, or "new school," and uses technology as possible. That's fine but staff should be mindful of potential errors. The receptionist scanned my driver's license. Unfortunately, the information automatically scanned in was inaccurate. I had changed my address with the Secretary of State and it was not reflected in the metadata contained in my ID's magnetic strip. *I came in to have my eczema and facial acne addressed. Ultimately, Dr. C-S prescribed Differin gel and noted that some insurance companies were reluctant to cover the medication for patients over 30. I noted that I had recently turned 30 and that I may not qualify, and she proceeded with her original plan. At the Target pharamacy, I had learned that Differin had recently been made available as an over-the-counter treatment (no prescription necessary) within the last year or so, and it was new to Target's shelves. And it was on sale, with a manufacturer coupon available. Grand total for the 45g tube would have been about $15*. How much was my prescription for the generic equivalent 45g size Dr. Carter-Snell prescribed? $30. I was not happy. *As of late August 2019, Differin's 15g 0.1% adapalene gel is $10.89 via Target.com, plus $3 off, if customers use the in-store Cartwheel coupon. The larger, 45g version is $27.49 (same as Amazon's current price) and the Cartwheel coupon is also available. Folks, please check with the pharmacy on pricing first before you have your script filled for Differin. read more

Called me by name, addressed my issues with compassion and explained the findings where I could understand. Provided samples of a moisturizer and sun screen suited for my complexion. I had my first appointment with Dr. Carter Snell and it was great!! Front staff was polite and friendly. I was seen by a NP within 15 minutes of arrival. The NP was also super friendly and attentive. Dr. Carter Snell came in with 5 minutes of the NP leaving, which was great. Typically, when I go to any doctors office the wait is always long. Dr. Carter Snell was friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable. She listened to my concerns, gave me a treatment plan and explained what she was prescribing and why. I have been a patient since February 2020 and up until my most recent visit I loved everything about Dr Carter-Snell. I went in for a cosmetic procedure to have moles removed from my face and neck and was told in October of 2020 that the fee would be $250 per area. On July 26, 2021 I went into the office prepared to pay the $500 so when the receptionist collected payment of $315, I thought great my insurance must be covering a portion of the cost. After the procedure was done the office manager Linda comes in and tells me I owe another $315 due to having 2 separate areas done!! When I asked why she stated the fees had gone up January 1, 2021, so my procedure went from $500 to $630. I said "well no one ever told me the fees for my procedure had changed" and she stated "well our fees went up the first of the year and it is now July"!!!!! Although I was upset, I paid the remaining $315 before leaving the office......... Today July 28, 2021, I just received a call from Linda the office manager saying "Doc said you had an office visit during your procedure so we will be billing your insurance and need to collect a copay from you"!!!! I'm so outdone by this practice.....I told her I asked the Dr a question pertaining to my psoriasis that she is already treating me for how is that an office visit? Had I known I couldn't ask a question without being charged a fee I wouldn't have said anything to her! First of all you raise your fees and don't notify clients before their procedures and then you charge a separate office visit fee because I asked a question about a condition you already treat me for........SHAME ON YOU, SHAME ON YOU! We have had a phenomenal experience at the Carter Snell Clinic. Everyone is professional, and very pleasant. The office is immaculate and clean, patient rooms are comfortable clean and cozy. Most impressive to us is the technical approach used to follow up with patients' progress as well as to offer additional info. The staff appeared to be well versed in dermatological care and always offer nuggets of information. Dr. Carter is personable, knowledgeable about her area of expertise and competent. Our daughter had an emergency situation we though was an allergic reaction to work done in our home. She was seen by an urgent care Dr. who misdiagnosed her. We kept her scheduled appt. with Dr Carter who immediately advised us to go to emergency because it appeared to be a specific condition caused by an insect bite or infection. She was was accurate, and gratefully my daughter received the necessary care and medication to clear the condition. We have had nothing but positive experience since our initial visit in July of this year. read more
