She was quick to respond and very friendly! She gave me a bunch of options to pick from that I felt would work good for the group/theme. We all had to travel with carry on suitcases so we opted for a smaller canvas and it was perfect. She was very helpful and painted along with us, giving us tips when features came up. The class was small - we were joined by a mom and her three kids. Mercedes began the class by demonstrating how to make a vase using the wheel. She made it look easy but we could all tell that it wasn't. Still, we each got a lump of clay, centered it on the wheel and began. Unfortunately, my first effort started to resemble a toilet more than a vase and I had to start over. Fortunately, Mercedes was a patient and attentive instructor and made sure we each created at least one piece each that we were happy with. (The pieces will be glazed, fired and ready for pick up in about two weeks.) I left just frustrated enough that I can't wait to come back and try it again.

The Kayak Experience is a great place for local, hands-on information, equipment and motivation. The staff here are friendly, knowledgeable and love meeting people who enjoying kayaking. They carry some really nice boats (my favorites being Ocean and Wilderness Systems), paddles, PFD's (Personal Flotation Devices), racks, and, very importantly, accessories. Sure, your boat, paddle and PFD is pretty tough, but straps, springs, leashes and pins tend to bend or break after you put in the miles, and this is the place to get it. If they don't have it (and I have yet to stump them), they'll order it. When the weather is nice, they have demonstrations every Saturday so you can try a boat or two if you're thinking of getting into kayaks. This is a good business, and kayaking is a great hobby. We had five kids ranging in age from 10 to 16, and every single one of them had an absolute blast--so did the adults! Ian was funny, engaging, and incredibly patient. He kept both the kids and adults entertained with interesting facts, great jokes, and easy-to-follow instruction. We were amazed by what we were able to create together, and the memories (and photos!) will last a lifetime. If you're visiting the Destin or Miramar Beach area, I can't recommend Ian highly enough.
