Mmm chicken enchiladas... Loved the food. Beans and rice were fantastic when we went. I stuffed myself silly on the huge portions. I hope to try the desserts and more importantly, the tequilas next time I go. I think I will split a dish so I have room. The restaurant was cheery and warm and the staff was quite friendly. I love casa carona! Their food is very good and the staff is wonderful. The lunch deal is the best, and I try to frequent their lunch service as often as possible. The ground beef burrito with enchilada sauce and cheese is to die for. Its a great addition to Marblehead for Mexican food. I used to solely go to howling wolf but since trying casa carona that has changed. Keep it up! read more

Excellent but - Buyer Beware....I first want to start by saying that this is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in the area. The restaurant is very clean and the food is very consistent and excellent - highlights are the best mole anywhere, fresh chips and salsa and great margaritas all at a reasonable price. My Husband and I eat in at this restaurant or take out, at least once per week. What I am extremely disappointed about as a very loyal patron, is the fact that they, time and time again, try to pass off their regular guacamole (not freshly prepared but bought in bulk) for their guacamole Fresca which is DOUBLE THE PRICE!! This happened to us again tonight and it absolutely infuriates me,! You should always get what you pay for and if I was clueless to the fact, as a lot of people probably are, I would have eaten it and that would have been that--but I am not clueless and want what I pay for. When I brought it to staff attention they "apologized", took it away and came back with the actual freshly made guacamole. I am still upset about this because the kitchen staff absolutely knows what they are putting out and this is not right. It especially infuriates me when this happens over and over again, especially when taking out. Shame on you!!! The owner needs to make this right and insure his staff is ALWAYS delivering what patrons order. If you are wondering how to distinguish the two - the pre-made bulk guacamole is glossy and mostly smooth and littered with a lot of onions and tomatoes, the fresh is more mat and very chunky in consistency and ....tastes freshly made. Hope this restaurant gets it together and stops charging patrons for something they are not getting. It hurts me to have to write a post like this but just can't take it anymore and hope they will take action to rectify this long standing issue. read more

Great new Mexican restaurant on the north shore. Went there with my girlfriend the other weekend. Got the chimichanga which was great. I would compare it to Acapulcos in beverly but with more authentic dishes. I also got a couple bags of chips to go the other day which is great for a get together at home. The chili con queso goes great with the chips. I hope this place does well because there is a real shortage of good Mexican restaurants on the north shore. read more

Like a lot of people in Marblehead, my husband and I were so excited to learn about Casa Corona. We lived in California for many years and were spoiled by access to great Mexican. When it opened we were *thrilled* to find authentic Mexican food! This is *not* anything like what you will get at Acalpulco, etc. This is authentic Mexican -- shredded meats that have been simmered in subtle sauce, fresh, fresh, fresh chips and guacamole. I didn't think I'd find food like this outside of California, but here it is! Now for excellent Chinese and Japanese and Marblehead may just find itself on a culinary map! read more

We love this place! Great, shareable portion sizes, reasonable prices, and delicious food. The live music on Sunday evenings is really fun and makes for fun special outings (for birthday dinners with friends/kids/etc). Highly recommended! I wish they had a few more vegetarian options, but overall, Casa Corona is a win. read more

I have been eating out for years and decided to finally document what I love and dislike about restaurants that we try. Casa Corona will be my very 1st. Casa Corona had a great "Mexican" atmosphere in the middle of small town surburbia. My husband and I ordered the "table" guacamole which wasn't made at the table. I asked the waitress about that and she said they don't do that anymore. Nevertheless it was good, but not the best I ever had. My husband got carna asada which he enjoyed and I ordered the seafood burrito which was really good. The drinks are ok, a little watered down you could order them virgin and it would taste the same. My spicy margarita was definitely disappointing, couldn't taste any tequila until I ordered a shot of it. The service was fine and attentive, but warm and friendly you aren't getting here. The food made up for that, just know that going into the meal. We would go back to try it again. read more

My wife and I tried out Casa Corona on a Saturday evening and were very impressed. Good food at very reasonable prices ($10-15 for most entrees). The menu is very broad, covering both traditional Mexican and Tex-Mex. Service was a bit slow, but I'm sure that will improve with time. We'll definitely be back soon. Tonight was the 4th time I've ordered takeout and the food has been consistently delicious.The orders have always been accurate and are ready within 10-15 minutes. Authentic Mexican food with very generous portions. Lots of guacomole too! Tonight my son had Grandmas Enchiladas with shredded beef and I had a Loco Burrito. Both were excellent! This is the best mexican food I have had since leaving Colorado. The express burrition is awesome. No rice and beans typically served in most local restauarants. Generous guacamole and sour cream. These glowing reviews makes me wonder if people go beyond the border of Marblehead considering how lack luster the food is overall. Salsa sauce too spicy with no real flavor; refried bean were actually whipped into a pile of mush; rice bland, chicken enchilada no seasoning or sauce and bland; taco's soggy upon arrival immediately falling apart; margarita blah. Restaurant itself not so bad, staff tentative, and food came out fast. Really the only good thing was the tortilla chips, thin and non-greasy, fresh. Won't even bother giving a second chance. I have only been to Casa Corona twice, once for takeout and one for dining in, but chicken burrito was great both times. It is not your typical burrito, you eat it with a knife and fork, but it was delicious and it was a generous portion. I tried the sangria, it was ok, but I just tried it because another reviewer recommended it. The bill only came to $21 for the burrito and the sangria. I will definitely go back again. I took my wife here for her birthday because she wanted to go somewhere new for Mexican Food. We loved the decor of the place but the food was just OK and somewhat bland. We ate at about 5 PM when the place wasn't very busy but the service was still brutally awful. When our check finally arrived I asked to speak to a manager who we hadn't seen the entire time and it took another 10 minutes for him to find his way to our table. We will not repeat. read more

Situation: Went here with my wife on a Friday night. Food: 8/10 Black bean soup comes with black beans, a dollop of sour cream, some cheese and you mix it yourself. I was skeptical, but the combination of those ingredients was really delicious. It was all very fresh. Fish tacos were served piping hot off the skillet, pan seared fish (not fried), great fresh and tangy combo of veggies, huge serving. I couldnt have been happier. It honestly tasted like the food on vacation in Mexico. Taco salad was pretty standard, but again, fresh ingredients, huge serving, cheap as hell. Service: 5/5 Polite, fast, good recommendations. All Mexicans. Ambience: 4/5 I'm taking 1 point off here strictly for the outside storefront and plaza. You wouldnt drive by here and say, Wow, lets risk severe diarrhea and try this place?! You game, honey?!...But thats pretty unfair b/c on the inside, you feel like you are stepping into an authentic mexican cantina. Theyve really done a great job from bright stucco walls to the decor. No. Just no. I wish I could give negative stars for this place. My husband and I tried to eat here for Cinco de Mayo and they were understandably packed. We decided to stay for the 20 minute wait. After the 29 minutes they called my husband's name and we walked up as soon as they called it. The hostess informed us they had given our table to someone else! We left after that and shouldn't have returned. The next night we still had Mexican food on the mind and decided to try it again. This time we were seated quickly. The place is very small and packed with tables. We ordered chicken fajitas for 2. It was very expensive and disgusting! We hardly ate any of it at all. The tortillas were absolutely repulsive. Like thin stale cardboard. Service was obviously lacking the first night we tried and the second night we actually got seated wasn't much better. We were visiting the area so I'm not sure of other Mexican options but I recommend staying away from here! read more

We sat down (3 little kids, 3 adults) at a table for 8. 10' later they asked if we could move to a table for 6, to accommodate a bigger party. Although shocked, and slightly annoyed, we moved. The table of 8 was never used. My husband's chicken was rubbery and disgusting, and the beef on my tacos did not taste like beef. We returned both, and choose not to get something else. We never got our 2nd round of waters, when asked, and I never got my iced tea, yet was billed for it. After trying my meal, I lost my appetite, but seeing the unkept kitchen with a partially flooded floor made my stomach even more uncomfortable. Overall, nuts to bolts, it was the worst dining experience and food I've ever had, and we go out a lot. I would not recommend this place to anyone, local or not. read more

I think people are too critical of this place.The food can be great, and is usually at least very good, It is clean, and it is a value for the quality. The drinks are strong and consistent. My wife loves the Cadillac Margarita, I am good with the house drink. The steak fajitas are usually terrific, and can feed two. The grilled chicken burrito is a go to take out item. We have had many of them and never had a bad one. I had mole enchiladas the other day at lunch. I had not ordered them in a while because the chicken filling can be dry and tasteless on a bad day. But that particular batch was perfect. It could not have been better suburban American Mexican food. Staff is usually attentive. This place is not always perfect, but for the price it is a great standby when you don't feel like cooking, and families are welcome. read more

Family was very dissappointed and will not go back. There is nothing fresh about the food. My Pork Carnitas was anything but.....old pre-cooked pork tenderloin that was sliced and cooked again, no seasoning, as dry as shoe leather. Sides of rice and refried beans - no flavor. Scoop of guacamole - no flavor.I had to salt my food - a first for me at a Mexican restaurant. The refried beans were beyond mush - just a pool of refried bean soup with a little melted cheese. The overly large plates were too hot to touch yet the food was barely warm. The egg and chorizo plate was lacking egg and the chorizo was dry. Also came with the same bland sides. The two tacos were blah. Chicken taco had chunks of dry baked chicken that had no flavor, just spooned into a tortilla. The ground beef taco was dry. Also on the plate were the flavorless sides. There were some diced tomatoes and iceburg - the best thing on the plate. I have to say all of the food tasted like it came off of a steam table and was plopped on a plate. Everything came out of the kitchen within 5 minutes. I think the microwave was working overtime. Very few people in the place on a weekend night. Server gave us a styrofoam container for the leftovers (no thanks) and expected US to scrape our plates into it. Excellent salsa. Good prices. BYOB is great to keep budget in check. I truly wanted to like this place. MHD needs a decent Mexican restaurant. read more

Six of us ate here this week and we were all impressed with our meals, service and the authenticity of it all. We sampled fish, crab, chicken, steak, pork and vegetarian meals and were quite pleased. The guacamole was terrific and priced right. We love the BYOB aspect of the restaurant; they graciously provided us with glasses, ice and limes without charging a fee--great way to keep the bill down! We will be back and will be sure to tell friends and family about this true Mexican restaurant that this area sorely needed! read more

I too was disappointed with all of the prior negative reviews as I had been to this restaurant twice before, once for lunch and once for dinner, and both times found it have great food and service and raved to my friends about the place. That was until I went back for dinner with my son last night. I should have known from the onset that it would not be as good as when they brought the chips and salsa, the chips were stale and not warm like before and the salsa was so spicy that it burned our mouths. We both ordered the black bean soup and chicken burritos. The soup was barely luke warm and consisted of whole black beans (seemed like they just opened a can) and the burritos, though large, were covered with so much sauce and toppings that they were less than appetizing. The rice and beans inside were also mushy. Unfortunately in addition to the subpar food, the service also left a lot to be desired. This visit there was spanish music being blared so loud that it was an effort to hear my son across the table. I asked the waitress if she would turn it down as it was hard to have a conversation. When our very hot plates came, I asked her again if she would turn down the music as it was still too loud; she snapped at me that she had already turned it down and that the songs were loud (she acted offended like I was critizing the music; honestly I felt that the music was more for the benefit of the staff than the customers and it never was lowered throughout the rest of our meal). During this exchange I touched my plate and burned my fingers (why do restaurants serve plates so hot that they cause burns); the waitress proceded to tell me that she had told me that the plate was hot (did not happen) and walked off. I for one will not go back. It's too bad as I was hoping this restaurant would make it, particulaly now that they have the only BYOB license in town. read more
