I came across this place scrolling through Yelp attracted to the pictures and high ratings. It was a cute and homie establishment with fun Latin music. There were a good amount of tables and seats with space in between. It's order at the desk and they bring the food to your table. They also actively do takeout as they were filling a bunch of orders when we arrived on a Friday just after they opened. We shared a meatball soup, Chorizo Burrito, and Carnitas Torta. The broth of the soup reminded me of the consume with birria tacos which I enjoyed. I also liked the handful of meatballs since they were soft and flavorful. The burrito ingredients were well spread out so you could have a bit of everything all at once. I found the torta to be a little dry but their homemade hot sauces definitely helped. The green sauce is certainly spicier as a warning for those with a low tolerance. French fries were yummy as were the homemade chips. The waitress was on the phone for 5 min without saying hi to me. After she ordered for me, she told me it would only take 10 min but the food took more than 15 min to make. I had to go up front to ask how long it is going to be, and they finally started to make it in front of my own eyes within 2 minutes. Maybe they are short on staff. The food is mediocre, I would say worse than chipotle, because the beef doesn't taste too well, and I had to throw them out. It was more expensive than chipotle but not as good. read more

Ordered the torta with carnitas. It was juicy with good cuts of meat. Ordered the taco Tuesday special (2 tacos for $4) this was advertised on their online portal then it disappeared, so I called it in. Chips and queso..yummy. Lastly, I ordered the Carmel churros, which were crispy & light and fluffy inside (still warm too!). The sauces given were ample and flavorful. I have been to Tepeyac many times but just recently I tried their Fish Taco plate and also their Birra Taco plate. Both plates were excellent with generous portions. Their food is always made to order, so it does take longer to get to the table, but once the food arrives you forget you had to wait, it is SO GOOD! The owners are the nicest people you would ever want to met, very friendly and positive. They play tradional Mexican music in the background, it really sets the mood of a nice Mexican dining experience. read more

Came here on a whim but boy was it good. My husband said "make sure you give them 5 stars because the food was so flavorful". And he has never told me to rate any restaurant before. Okay so it's not your typical sit down restaurant. You order at the counter but they do bring the food to your table when it's ready. They also made sure that we got our chips and Queso well before our meal. The staff also wears masks which I this is admirable so thank you because I know it's hot back there! I was looking to get Tortas at Lá Victoria Taqueria in Beverly (over the bridge from Salem), when I was fortunate enough to see they were closed...Yelp recommended Tepeyac, and it paid off! The Pollo a la Plancha was perfectly seasoned with fresh sides. The shrimp tacos were delicious as well, and no skimping on the shrimp -- for $3 that is a hefty taco! Lastly, the nachos were amazing. The portions were generous. The lady at the register, presumably the owner, was very friendly. In terms of the ambiance, it is more of a quick lunch spot, or great for takeout. So dang close to a 5 star joint. Here's my take: Good: -Tacos and tortas are wicked tasty -phenomenal refried beans (I typically prefer black but these are wow!) -Great breakfast dishes! Wow, simply put, this is excellent Mexican food! I had the combo fajita, which included chicken, steak, and shrimp. All were cooked perfectly and oh so tender! The seasoning was good, too, not heavy-handed. It came with a lot of rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole, shredded lettuce, and 5 corn tortillas. Every taco/Mexican place we go to in Boston even if it had amazing reviews faltered to disappointment. We were about to give up our search. I ran into this place randomly on Yelp and I'm so happy I did. The service was fast. The BIRRIA tacos were AMAZING. I also ordered lengua and carne which were both really good.
