I'm honestly surprised by all the good reviews, do y'all not have tastebuds? I love tacos. Love is an understatement. This was so off putting I refused to finish a taco out of my 3 taco meal. Played it safe, got the ground beef. The taco was greasy despite having the double tortilla layer which it had soaked through. The taco meat was very bland and there was a funky sweet taste to it, maybe because of the chipotle aioli? No cheese. No hot sauce. Between the texture and the taste, there was no way I was able to get past a couple bites. I thought the chips and salsa would be my saving grace, however there was zero salt on the chips and the salsa was just their pico de gallo. The pico was super watery and tasted like bland tomato water. No salt or flavor in there either. In addition, you can get a pretty good idea about a place's cleanliness based off what you can see going on in the kitchen. The cook was wearing gloves while scrolling on his/a phone and didn't change those gloves to make our food. Additionally, he went to the restroom with the gloves on and while he wasn't wearing by them when he came out, but it wasn't long enough thoroughly wash your hands. The staff were sitting on the stainless steel counters where meal prep is done. Just not a place I feel comfortable eating. read more

The one overarching adjective I have for this place is "solid." The tacos here aren't cheap, but they don't skimp in ingredients and for all of the tacos we ordered, we received solid, convincing pieces of meat. From the lobster to the shrimp to the fish, everything was so fresh and high quality that we were extremely impressed. Don't expect "authentic" Mexican tacos. These definitely have their own take on them - Baja California at times, New England lobster roll at times. But all extremely tasty, to the point I'd consider making a drive up here from Boston because the food is just that good. The real standout in our lineup today was the grilled corn. Raving reviews do not match up to the tacos I had. I ordered three different tacos. I love tacos. There's a lot you can do right with a taco, I only liked 1/3 that I got. They all seemed freshly made, but were difficult to enjoy. The pork taco - Filled with one large piece of pork that was at least half fat. The mango slaw included was about 3-4 toothpick thin pieces of mango. The avocado included was one slice of avocado that was almost paper thin. Then smothered over it all was the chili sauce which was overwhelming the entire taco if anything. Did not like anything about this taco. The fish taco - Piece of batter fish was thick and flavorless. There was no balance to the taco as it literally was 80% a large piece of fish. Do not recommend this taco. The beef taco - The only taco I enjoyed. Crispy corn and flour tortillas on the outside, tasty pick with some hot green pepper and an overall balanced taste between all the ingredients. Overall - subpar experience. Do not recommend fish or pork taco. Would try other taco places before coming back here again. Was hoping for so much more. read more

4.5 stars. This small taco shop is mostly take-away but has 11 counter stools if you want to eat in. It's a very unassuming space with no decor on the walls. But the food was delish! I had two of the Mr. Bean tacos (black bean and sweet potato with a spicy aioli and stuffed in a corn tortilla wrapped in a soft flour tortilla). Hubs had one each of the fish and chili shrimp tacos (liked the fish better). Chips and pico were just okay. Would definitely come back to try some of their other tacos! read more

Vegan tacos? Say no more fam, you've already gotten my attention. Spitfire Tacos has vegan beans and rice in addition to vegan tacos. Both are decent options if you're in the Salem area. The tacos use Morningstar Farms beef crumbles and instead of small street style corn tortillas, Spitfire uses larger homemade flour tortillas. The rice and bean plate is huge and includes fancy upgrades (pickled onions and guacamole, anyone?). The only thing that's missing here is some salsa. I'm the type of person to POUR salsa over my tacos and unfortunately, none was included in my order. Aside from this small gripe, you can count me in as fan of Spitfire Tacos. Quality of food and service = ten stars! Portions are very decent and honestly, price wise, are extremely reasonable. Might not seem like it at first glance, but, for example, I used to get the salmon taco for $7.99. It was a FULL single portion of salmon in the taco; a portion of salmon of similar size at the grocery store would be about $7.99 just on its own, so...a great deal! My only "complaint" is there really isn't much seating. Just a few stools along a countertop. Totally just me, but I'm very picky about my tacos and would prefer to eat them sooner rather later! read more

I was hesitant. A taco in Salem, Massachusetts? I mean I'm from San Antonio where tacos were born and raised by God !!! I ordered a beef taco and she got the vegetarian. It was a little different but in a really good way. No salsa, instead a chipotle aioli sauce. Crispy corn shell and it had a thin flour tortilla wrapped around the outside. NOTE: I've never seen them served this way but I have seen a lot of people do this back home because every good Mexican restaurant serves flour tortillas with your dinner. O.k. . Based on their menu descriptions, I really was expecting more from the tacos. Prices are good and they have a nice variety but I think it would be good for customers if they indicated spice levels. You can guess based on ingredients but knowing something has way more than a kick than you would have expected would be beneficial. I ordered a variety of tacos. They were nicely presented, smelled great and a good portion. Unfortunately, several were way too spicy for me and one actually hurt my mouth when I took a bite as the spice was super intense. I've gone back and re-read the descriptions and I don't think any of the ingredients/descriptions prepared me for the actual intense spice levels. I ordered the chicken which was by far the spiciest. The beef was good but for some reason the sauce on the inner soft shell was extremely spicy. My dining partner ate the salmon and enjoyed it. The pork belly one was not too spicy but kind of boring. The most interesting one (and thankfully not spicy as I could only eat this one...) was the brie and raspberry. Very cool combo, not spicy but extremely flavorful. I'd love to have that one again although I don't see myself ordering again as it was a waste to order five and really only be able to eat one. I'm all for sharing with my dining partner but it's not great when you're left hungry after spending over $30 on 5 tacos. read more

I really do not understand where all these four and five-star reviews are coming from. I recently moved here from East Boston and was excited to see a Taco spot nearby. I should have known the moment I saw the prices for ONE taco that this place was not it. Against my better judgment, I gave this place a pass and gave it a try based on all the good reviews. We ordered the nachos, a quesadilla, a side of rice and beans, and one vampiro taco. Aside from the taco - the quesadilla and nachos did not include any meat - it's extra. You're pretty much paying $11 dollars for nachos for what's basically cheese on tortilla chips. Do not get me started on the rice and beans. How are you going to charge $5 - $6 dollars for the blandest, unseasoned rice and beans. There was no flavor, no hint of salt, pepper, nothing. It's like they took beans from a can and just heated it up and served it. The vampiro taco was ok - it did have flavor but the description mentions hot sauce and this had no hint of spice. I would consider trying the tacos again, but my first experience was just 3 stars. I had the vampire, which tasted good enough, but it wasn't spicy. The fish taco was flavorless and it seemed like the tortilla was undercooked or too thick, I don't know. Probably because the contents had zero brightness. The fish was fine, meaning it wasn't too fishy and the texture was good. But it tasted like nothing. I love coming here for dinner! It's a drive from where I live but it's always worth it. The girl at the counter is always nice and the men cooking are quick and construct the tacos well every time. My favorite is the Beef Taco - the beef taco has chipotle sauce and a corn tortilla wrapped in a flour tortilla. It's SO good. I've also had the Nellie Belly which is a sweeter taco made with pork belly. Very good and suggest trying these if you get a chance. read more

My favorite are the beef with its double shell and flavorful fillings and the chicken with the zesty sauce on top. The quesadillas are ridiculously fat when you add a protein and the nachos are very filling. The nachos do not travel well though, so do not plan to walk around with them and expect them to still be crispy. read more

** Catering Review ** Spitfire catered for our wedding in Salem in August 2022. The taco bar was completely vegetarian, and ALL of our guests loved it. The fillings were unique (roasted cauliflower, vegan chorizo), and the price was very reasonable for feeding 120 guests. We also had chips, salsa, and guacamole for guests to snack on during the cocktail hour, which was a huge hit! Ryan and Katie were wonderful to work with, they responded quickly and were very accommodating. The taco bar added a pop of color to our reception space and worked well for accommodating different guests' dietary restrictions. Food was good but service is the main reason for 3 stars. Not something they did while we were there to pick up our food but rather how everything was packed. One member of our group can't eat meat which is part of the reason we ordered from here, they have a number of vegetarian options and even a "vegan" option. Well the vegan and vegetarian options were packed in the same small container as a beef taco which had a sort of liquid-ey sauce that got on the bottom of the other two tacos and the vegetarian taco had a piece of chicken in it. So rather then spending the night with an upset stomach she got to eat queso and guac. This is more personal preference but the tacos are very heavily filled. You get like 2 tacos worth of meat in one tortilla, which is fine but I would rather just get get 2 appropriately filled tacos. All the meat taco's were pretty solid otherwise and the queso and guac were also good. probably wont come back here though, kinda pricey for not a crazy amount of food. I would definitely avoid it if you are a vegan or have any issues with consuming meat. read more

First time here, and it is a go to spot! I did specially request each taco to be hard shell, they do recommend The soft shell flour tortillas. After getting the tacos I did notice that they grill each side of that flour tortillas so I am open to try that next time. I ordered beef, chicken, vegan, and salmon.
