We had a lovely lunch at casa de Oro in Red Oak, Iowa! The service was perfection. Welcoming light hearted decorations greet you at the door. From there every single member greeted our party with smiles and welcomes. The food was well presented and tasty. Yelper had beef enchilada with salsa verde. It was mild but full of flavor. Afraid we were too hungry to remember to film our plates, but they were hot plates ( nice on a very cold wet day) As a spicy salsa aficionado I must say the salsa was very mild for me. Was in town, decided to try this restaurant and I'm so glad we did. The restaurant was very clean, organized and very appealing. The gentleman that greeted us was very friendly and dressed nice, he knew what to say, and gave us the right amount of time to look over the menu, and to start, we had the chips and salsa and was very tasty. We stopped into Casa De Oro on a Saturday night for dinner and they were able to seat our group of 8 (4 kids and 4 adults) immediately, which was great. We've had Casa De Oro twice while visiting our family in Red Oak - once in person and one for pickup. The pickup order was "fine" but our second time having it was seated/in person, and it was WAY better as dine-in and served up fresh, than when it's packed up and sitting in your car on the way home. The feel of the restaurant was busy and buzzing, but that didn't detract from the quality of service at all. Our server was fantastic and super kind and fun. My husband and I started with the cheese dip, which was a white cheese and was DELISH. We ended up getting two more orders for the table because it was gobbled up so fast. For entrees, my husband and I had the Burrito Mexicano and the Tacos al Carbon: -The Tacos al Carbon were filled with chicken (my protein choice) and smothered with ranchero sauce, along with a side of beans and rice. It was super well seasoned and tasty. I'd definitely recommend it, if you're a fan of ranchero sauce (a medley of tomato and chili!) -The Burrito Mexicano was filled with the protein of our choice (beef), rice, refried beans, and topped with their burrito sauce and melted cheese, along with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream and shredded cheese. It was melt-in-your mouth scrumptious. The younger kids had items off the kids menu, which they had no complaints about, and the pre-teen kids shared the jumbo super nachos (I'm not sure if that was the actual name, but that was how they ordered it and the server knew what they meant LOL) We also tried the peach margarita, and it was fabulous. I don't even like peach flavor normally, but this one hit different and wasn't too sweet. Overall, I'd say definitely eat Casa De Oro in person, because if you take it to-go, you miss out on the ambiance, service, and freshness of the dine-in experience! read more

Some of my favorite memories were created at Casa de Oro. The food is always good, fresh, and plenty of it! If you like your food (or drinks!) with a bit more kick, just let them know, they are always glad to oblige. They have a fairly extensive menu, and I attempt to order different entres each visit, but sometimes I just feel like nachos, or even a burger - which may almost sound sacrilegious, but hey! they make a damn good burger! We went twice in two days it was so good!Our waiter,was immediately welcoming and accommodating!We wanted to eat on the PATIO with our DOG so he opened us an umbrella and brought cold water for all of us including the pup. I had to try the mole enchilada and it did not disappoint,,, made with pulled roasted chicken (no mystery chunks )!Hubby had the 3 taco combo, for just $10. The next day we did not want Mexican food so soon , but really preferred to patronize this "family business" over KFC or Taco Bell nearby, so we returned to order some Cheese burgers which also were tasty and a great value considering the thick patty and included "crinkle fries" for just $6 . From the moment I walked in, the super nice and responsive service began. It was busy at 630pm, so the first person asked "how many" and that they would clear/clean a table. While I stood there at the door, comically "how many" was asked 3 more times from 3 other people! Had to laugh. Once seated, I realized just how super fast and work harding the servers and assistants worked to provide great service...and all helped each other. Customers all seemed happy and pleased, and many locals recommended eating here. I enjoyed the warm chips and fresh salsa, a monster-size strawberry margarita; a (smallish) burrito but oh-so-good chile verde; a chicken taco (tasty but with a packaged hard shell!). All in all, it was a good place! A rare outdoor patio in the city, which is great when it's a nice afternoon or evening. Kind of plain and unassuming from the outside, but oh-so-cute on the in. I live in Houston, Texas, and am surrounded by amazing Mexican and Central American cuisine, but for a place in a town in this region, with nothing but cornfields for miles and miles around it, its really a nice little find! Service was awesome, the staff was super busy the entire time, but didn't miss a beat. Everyone seemed to be happy doing their jobs, and that's a plus.. Food was great, not the best Mexican food I've had, but I cannot complain at all. Only suggestion (but what do I know) I would make is to minimize the menu. We were visiting some family and were starving. We didn't want fast food so we came across this Mexican Restaurant. First impression was it looked decent on the outside, when we walked in we had to wait a few minutes to be seated; not because they were busy, but because no tables were cleaned off. Once seated were provided with the menu and soon the chips with salsa. We took about 5 minutes to look over the menu and were ready to order...but we never got checked on again for easily an additional 15 minutes. Finally we get checked on and order taken, along with the table that got sat down behind us just a few minutes ago. Food was excellent, ate it all. Margarita was a bit different; but they its still a margarita! Someone eventually came and got our plates out of the way, then we proceeded to get hustled and hassled over getting desert after many attempts of saying we would pass. We waited for our check..10 minutes later still no check...finally decided to go to the counter and they printed it out... Food can be great but service can ruin it all. We were so pleased to find Casa De Oro located next to our hotel. Our regular Red Oak favorite The Firehouse has sadly closed. My steak fajitas were delicious and Frank tried the chicken mole enchiladas. My Dos Equis Ambar was huge! Otherwise the food portions were generous but not too ridiculous. Staff was helpful, friendly and very busy, because on this Sunday evening I think everyone in Red Oak was here. Slow service. Average food. Ordered a jumbo margarita without knowing the price. It ended up being $17.50. Ive had similar sized margaritas for $8 at other restaurants. When we asked if it was a mistake the lady responded "jumbo margarita, jumbo price." The margarita was also pretty weak. If I were to spend that much money on a drink, I'd expect it to have a fair amount of alcohol in it which this one definitely did not. Basically paid $17.50 for a slushy. I've had to wait for a period longer than expected when busy and questioned my decision to stop until the food came then I realized I'd most definitely wait again and again for what was placed before me.
