The food was ok, not the best or most authentic Mexican food I have had, but it was enough to fill me up. I was seated promptly, was not checked on again until I was 90% of the way through my meal. Casa De Oro or The House of Gold,is an authentic Mexican restaurant in Red Oak IA. Its more like the house of bronze when looking at it. It has the feel of what you would expect from a small town Authentic Mexican restaurant. The owners are very friendly and can tell they have more passion than most people in the area. The menu is very welcoming and well put together. The menu has many options and seems like they update it every year. I get the Camarones A La Diablo about every time and ask for it spicy and with just rice. The camarones (shrimp) are very well sized and probably the biggest in Southwest Iowa! The dish is very consistent. The fajitas come sizzling by and when you see another table order it you always wanna wish that you ordered it. The salsa is also the best salsa in southwest IA with the perfect amount of spice, cilantro, and onions. The salsa is a must get! Just dont get the cheese quesso cause its literally just melted cheese on a plate.... Margaritas are the best out of any around southwest Iowa, there just inconsistent with the amount of alcohol they put in the drink with makes it inconsistent in taste. Which im not gonna complain about having more tequila in my drink I just wanna be able to make it home. Just make sure you're not driving if you have more than 2 or 3! The big downfall of this place is the service and the inconsistency. The owners seem like they try to do a lot of the serving and just have buss boys and people to pour water or get you more chips/salsa. Which when it gets just a tad busy ive had times when I have waited over 20 minutes just to get asked what drink I want. This makes people not want to tip as much cause its like oh, youre owner so you really dont need this much of a tip and wont appreciate it as much as a regular hard working server. Due to spicy food being ate the wait in-between drinks is slacking and could do better. When its not busy food comes out quick and service is pretty well, ive never been treated bad by any workers. I dont recommend going on a busy time due to you could be waiting to get drinks/food for a long time which makes you spend more money on drinks and end up spending more money then you want to. Plating: 7/10 they warn you if the plate is HOT and are clean with presentation Taste: 8/10 Im only gonna be giving this a high rating because I love the Camorones A LA Diabla and its starting to make me a little bias. Make sure you try it if you like spice and seafood! Atmosphere: 6/10 Spanish Music and the theme makes the Margs taste just a bit better! Service: 3/10 Being nice and friendly helps make up short staffed and inconsistent waiting times. Pricing/Portioning: 7/10 It can be a little expensive but is priced reasonably for the most part Casa is my favorite place to eat at in Red Oak IA, it has not really progressed to much from opening other than some renovating and adding the outside patio. I havent had one meal that I havent liked and havent had to send back. This review is meant to be helpful and not to swade customers from these small town business's. We visited this restaurant because of the good reviews that we had read. It was awful! We got seated right away and then ignored for 15 minutes. Finally someone brought us chips and a small bowl of salsa which was half full. Waitresses kept walking by us but did not actually take our order for another 15 minutes. They were busy but I don't think that made it excusable for the way we were treated. I asked for more salsa when she took our order, and she brought back the cheese dip with the drinks and no salsa. We waited for another 15 minutes, then got up and told them at the front desk that we were leaving and to cancel our order. They did comp our drinks, but were not sorry to see us leave. read more

Went to celebrate a great Friday evening and was seated promptly, waited 15 min for a glass of water, another 15 min for some soggy chips and salsa, 20 min we asked to place an order, 45 min later walked out and enjoying Taco Bell down the street.
