Finding a fresh paella place in cities other than Valencia seems harder than it seems. We found this place that makes fresh paella after much research. It does take about half an hour to make so come with patience. The place itself is quite nice and fancy. Stays fairly busy. The paella was alright in my opinion as someone who was having it for the first time. It was just not something I would get again. The rice very sparsely in there. The crab is there for show. I liked the shrimp and squid. Overall not a bad experience and we got to try an authentic dish fresh! I agree with the 3.5 star rating. We were recommended this place by a very friendly taxi driver as the place to have paella in Madrid. It's off the beaten path in a nice neighborhood. The restaurant it self is nice and service is really good. 0 touristy feel, looked like mostly locals dining there. The food was ok, the best thing I had was the veal milanesa or escalope a la milanesa that I ordered for my 5 year old. I had the crema de cangrejo which was very rich with lots of umami crab flavor. It tasted a bit strong at first, but it was good especially dipping the bread in it. The paella was ok, it wasn't for me. The type of rice used is not my favorite, the amount of chicken and rabbit was on the light side. I did however really enjoy the artichokes, delicious. I should have trusted Yelp. This restaurant kept popping up on list as the place to have Paella. I saw 3.5 stars on yelp and though maybe yelp has it wrong. They did not. I only ordered the paella valenciana with chicken rabbit and vegetables. It was 85 percent vegetable and small amounts of chicken or rabbit. They didn't have tap water and they brought me bottled even though I said no. I had to asl them to remove it. I never touched the bread or olives they brought out. I even moved them away from me. So Madrid is not known for their paella however, supposedly if you want to try it this is the premier place to go in Madrid according to multiple foodie blogs . Old school feel of a restaurant ( white table clothes, plastic flowers). Good traditional service with waiters dressed formally. We had the arroz senoryet which is a paella made with peeled seafood ( think fish, mussels, shrimp, octopus). Huge portion. Didn't love it- too salty for my taste. The place was located around a nice area to walk in and walking into the restaurant they have those automatic chairs for those that cant go up stairs (what a plus!). The paella was really good!!!! We ordered the Paella Mixta- the chicken was really good and so was the rice. The paella said it was for 2 people, but it was enough for 4! The calamari were good- not great. They might be better if they were smaller and crunchier. The starting bread was good (seemed homemade) but just really hard to bite- we weren't offered any butter/olive oil. The service was ok- not over the top amazing but it was good. My companions ordered the fried cod fish and loved it! For desert- they fought for the flan so safe to say it was delicious. My friend and I stopped in on a Monday night so she could have paella before leaving Spain. We got the seafood paella (as traditional Valencian paella is not my cup of tea). Be warned paella does take a solid half hour to be ready so it's best to arrive before you're starving or be prepared to get an appetizer. The paella itself was quite good. We each had a massive plate of food including a crab and langostino for each of us, calamari, shrimp and mussels. I was pleasantly surprised that even on a Monday the seafood seemed fresh. There was a complimentary plate of dates/raisins/candies fruit served at the end of the meal that was delightful though we were too full to enjoy it much. It's not the most picturesque restaurant and the service is typically spanish (waiters who barely acknowledge your presence and all that) but it's a solid choice for paella in Madrid. read more

This place is the biggest scam you will ever encounter in Madrid. The people here are so kind and welcoming, however, the owner as well the management are hostile and sneaky. They have decided to charge for more than they are depicting on their menu, making the customer feel like it's their fault for not knowing their unreasonable extra charges. I am very excited and so far so forth they accommodate you with complimentary bread and olives to the table. Delicious, right?!?! But when I got the check they CHARGE you for bread and olives??! It doesn't make sense?!?!!?? We asked the manager because we are VERY concerned about this charge. He said that he was doing us a "favor" because we came to eat here... What favor is that? This is a place to go to if you want to wow your wife or partner. I took my wife here for her birthday. We happened to be in Madrid when her birthday occurred. After some discussion and disagreement as to how to go there from the train station, as it is a short walk from where the Corte de Inglese shopping strip in (Arguelle Station), we had a wonderful dinner, that more then made up for the chaos. Honestly, the best paella I have ever had. I was a little nervous about going here because some reviews said it was old and needed refreshing. Here's my take: This place is traditionally Spanish but the chef and the staff take great pride in service and presentation. The wine list is great and the appetizers are incredible. I felt like the people in this restaurant took very good care of us and wanted us to have a good time. For dinner we had vermouth as an aperitif, followed by chipirones a la plancha (heaven!) and then the traditional paella valenciana, with chicken and rabbit. OMG. It was amazing! We came here based on the recommendations of our tour quide and the reviews on Yelp. Both claimed this was the best place in Madrid for paella, the specialty of the house. Yelp rarely leads me astray but this was one of those times. By way of background I am a second generation Cuban American whose grandfather is from Spain. Furthermore I live in Miami so I know a decent paella when I taste one. There are many types of paella available and we ordered the paella mixta or seafood paella. Unfortunately, the "seafood" consisted of one crawfish (prawn), a jumbo shrimp tail and one small mussel each for my wife and I. It also had small junks of chicken with at least half the pieces still having cartilage or bone attached. Really folks, you couldn't spring for chicken breast? What it did have was plenty of artichoke pieces along with what looked like large Lima beans. The rice was undercooked in certain areas a sign that the paella had been rushed and not allowed to slowly simmer. At no point did the waiter return to ask how the food was or pour wine beyond the first glass. In short, I was definitely disappointed and did not feel this place merited the high praise or the extra €€€ to eat there. read more

Ok...so the food would be 3.5 stars. It was good, nothing memorable. The ambiance is completely devoid. When you arrive, there are waxy carnations and pieces of bread on all the tables. The bread looks dusty and old. At the end of your meal they will charge you 5Euros for this bread. When I inquired why they would charge you for something that was already on the table, the waiter informed me that it is for the type of high end establishment that they are. I literally LOL'd. Maybe in 1970 this was some sort of high end place, but it is now a location for the senile elderly and ballers on a budget. After reading reviews was truly expecting more. Mediocre at best. We arrived with a reservation and were ushered into a back room awaiting a tour group. Once the tour group arrived it was a frantic scene getting them in and out in less than hour. We were ignored. We are not inexperienced travelers and we both lived in Madrid in past lives. We wanted to do it old school. We started with the grilled alcachofas which were fine perfectly. We then ordered the paella con verduras Huge Huge disappointment. Came for the paella. Ended up drinking 30 euro worth of water as well. Good stuff over all. Haven't ever had legitimate Spanish paella and as this was my first trip to Madrid, it seemed worth it to go a bit higher end given that other places supposedly just give you frozen, microwaved dishes. We had the seafood paella for four, water, booze, bread, and had a very nice time. Would've tried the rabbit one had my friend and I remember what the word "conejo" meant. It wasn't a cheap meal but we split it four ways and ended up spender about 35 euros each, so not bad! This is not a tourist place -- it's a place filled with local families -- so if you want to have a good authentic, sit-down, white-tablecloth, 3-hour lunch experience with good paella, come here. We've been several times with family from Spain, so I'm not sure if the staff speaks much English or not. This is not a new, modern restaurant. It's old school and service is slightly stuffy/formal, but they are very attentive. I recommend starting with sangria and navajas (yummy razor clams). The bread is fresh and delicious, as are the salads and asparagus. We usually get the drier style paella, but this time we ordered the wetter style with lobster, and it was the best. (I prefer my rice moist, and a lot of places in Spain serve it very dry.) The flavor was outstanding and the portions were huge! They brought out the pot to show us, then divided it onto plates with a lot of lobster pieces on each plate, including the head which was not edible. (Someone made a comment about finding meat with cartilage in it. When you eat in Spain, you usually know what you're eating -- things come whole or roughly cut. Shellfish has the eyes, meat has the bones. You can't pretend you're not eating what you're eating, so expect to have to use your knife to cut up your food.) After dinner, they brought out a tray of dried fruits and liquors. If they don't include the candied oranges on the tray, ask for them. They are the perfect end to a meal. Afterward, you can walk through the park and make your way to the Palace to recover from all the eating! read more

Great paella. Came to the place was very quiet. First table to arrive. Coming here we know we were getting paella. Anyway we ordered grilled squid as a starter, this was served with a pesto and squink ink. A squeeze of lemon and the dish turns to magic really good appetizer the squid is so fresh. We were given amuse bouche we got cod croquettes which were both tasty. As our seafood paella comes we were give a peice of shrimp langoustine and chicken the rice was really good. Very different from the other paellas i have had. Two thumbs up this was served with an aioli which tied every bite differently. After our meal we were suprised with a plate of raisins , dates and prune with a dessert liquor in the middle suprising! Finished the meal with their homemade flan, which i was not too impressed on had a softer flam before. We needed to try paella while visiting so we found this place in some reviews online. Very pretty and old school inside. Paella takes 25 min to cook but it is worth it! Came here for traditional paella during a visit to Madrid. It was a little out of the way from central Madrid but the neighborhood was lovely. Minimum order was for 2 persons so needless to say, there was a lot of rice. Paella was delicious and the service was good old fashioned professional.
