Very quaint and charming two-story building(1920s). Once upon a time it was a small apartment complex. The upstairs unit we stayed in had a small but complete kitchen. Our room was a two-bedroom suite that was very comfortable and spacious, overlooking a nicely appointed courtyard. Came to town for the Old Spanish Days festival. Parade on Cabrillo Blvd was 200 feet from the inn. Great location. Short walk to parade, Chad's diner and wharf. Wonderful staff - very friendly and helpful. Have stayed at multiple locations in Santa Barbara area and this one is my favorite. Book early as it tends to fill up before others. read more

Front desk staff is SO RUDE. There was an older gentlemen working the front desk... I asked if they offer discounts via AAA and you'd think by his reaction I'd kill someone. He was super rude when he replied that they weren't affiliated with AAA in anyway. That's fine, but he didn't have to act so offended. My husband and I stayed over the Labor Day weekend. Nice little hotel near the beach. My issue is the amenities. The website states the rooms have AC, mini fridge etc however our room had no AC just a ceiling fan and box fan? The weekend was very humid so it was very hot in our room even with the box fan and ceiling fan it was hard to sleep bc of the temperature in the room. I mentioned this during check-out and the front desk staff immediately became rude stating that the room doesn't have AC and if we wanted that we needed to request a room with AC specifically when we book the room via the website (which there is no option for that) We stay in SB a lot. Never had this kind of experience. Probably won't stay again because for the price of the room ($300+ fees a night) there should be air conditioning and polite staff. read more

From the moment we walked into this tiny little hotel, I honestly wasn't expecting much. We just needed a place to sleep for a few nights while we helped set up our daughter for college. Dan, the front desk person at check-in, was so informative and friendly--he really seemed to love his job, which set a positive tone right away. The hotel offers a wine and cheese hour and has cozy fire pits, which was such a nice touch. Our room was actually better than expected--the bed was comfortable, though I do think the pillows could use an upgrade. The only downside is that there's no AC, but they do provide portable fans, which worked out fine for us. One thing I really appreciated was how clean the place was. I noticed throughout the day that the staff worked hard to keep everything spotless and welcoming. Overall, it turned out to be a pleasant stay, much better than I had imagined. read more

For years we have always loved staying at this charming Spanish style inn that is definitely one of Santa Barbara's most well kept secrets. The rooms are so cute, cozy, and immaculate, the location is perfect within walking distance of the sand, & the staff is always very friendly. We visited last week to escape the Los Angeles heat & had a lovely, though too short, stay. Rudest front desk employer I've ever experienced. Old, White and fat. My family and I were parked in front of the hotel on white where it clearly says hotel drop off gathering our stuff to put into our room, emergency lights on and everything he comes takes a picture of our car and starts screaming at us to move our car because we "weren't" staying there. Mattress topper was a tad lumpy... no A/C... but (upper level) room cooled down after opening some windows. No coffee maker... no cups, plates, utensils (this room had a semi kitchenette with microwave) which at this price point should be a standard amenity. Staff is very pleasant and the morning breakfast items were good. We didnt have the opportunity to take part of the evening wine & cheese hour. read more

This place is awesome! And for the price - the amount of space, and fireplace we were able to enjoy - it was definitely was worth it. Our room came with a couch, desk, fireplace, 1 bedroom that had a little tv, as well as another big bed in the same room as the living room right next to a full kitchen - and 2 bathrooms. It was CLEAN, Great location - MINUTES within walking distance to Stearns Wharf where you can enjoy amazing seafood - lots of options but one spot we enjoy is the SB Shellfish Co. They offer COMPLIMENTARY red and white WINE with CHEESE next to the front desk. We checked in around 630p and we're able to enjoy some before they closed it at 7p. There's complimentary breakfast in the lobby that you can take back to your room on a tray. I was really disappointed in this inn. The room looked like a spartan Motel 6. The wine and cheese consisted of those packaged cheese cubes on a dry cracker, and there was mold on the cheese. And we both got food poisoning from the breakfast yogurt. I do agree that the location is great, though. read more

CDMI is our go-to place to stay whenever we are in Santa Barbara. We discovered it during 2020 and were itching to travel (don't worry, CDMI followed/follows social distancing and sanitation requirements perfectly). The reasons are many: you won't get better bang for your buck than tastefully renovated CDMI (the inn consists of completely renovated Spanish revival bungalows built in the 20s). So you get the best of both worlds: newly updated amenities, with just the right amount of preserved old world touches, including beautifully tiled fireplaces in some rooms, and original tiled bathtubs in most others. And of course, our favorite Dan at the front desk has always made each of our stays so special. He has always been stunningly helpful and promptly goes out of his way to help us with whatever we need. And he regales us with the most interesting stories during the wine and cheese happy hour (another rad complimentary perk, from 5-7pm). Continental breakfast is also complimentary, served every morning from 7-10am. The famous LA bakery Porto's even caters the breakfast - CDMI serves their famous cheese as well as cheese and guava pastries. This was honestly one of my favorite, unexpected touches. Fruit, cereal, coffee, and juice are also served. There's an ice machine, mini fridge, and microwave for every guest. Some rooms even feature fully stocked kitchens. The inn is dog-friendly! Very important factor for us when traveling. Dan and the other staff also always spoil our pup Ginger with doggy treats whenever she visits. Great location as well - it is literally across from the beach and pier, and easy walking distance from some of our favorite eateries in SB, including Biergarten, the SB Shellfish Company, On the Alley, and SB Fish Market. Also a decent walking distance or Uber from State Street. We've probably stayed at CDMI for almost a month total, over the span of four years, and have stayed in about 6 different rooms. Each room has their own charm, although my favorites are the courtyard rooms with the gorgeous fireplaces. They're always extremely accommodating and generous with early check-in and late check-out, which we really appreciate. I have stayed here before and loved the ambiance so when my husband, who happens to be disabled, wanted to take me for a night for my 70 birthday, I was excited. We booked through hotel.com and did arrive in the evening. When we arrived, my husband was told by the clerk, who was actually quite nice and helpful, that only two rooms remained. One had no air conditioning so he suggested the other was better. The room was 10 ft by 10 ft. It still used a key as it was an "overflow" room. We could barely walk. No vanity. A small bathroom with a dingy tub shower. The clerk did bring us cheese and crackers as we don't drink also lemonade but I was crushed and still am. 220!!!!!!! For a 10 by 10 room. Shame on the hotel and hotel.com for GREED!!!! I am only giving the hotel 2 stars because the clerk was nice to us and my husbands support dog. So the GM Christian told me that a 20 ft by 10 ft room is a "basic" room! They need pictures of that on their website. Christian was rude and offered no solutions except it was somehow my fault. I AM heartbroken as I had thought so well of this hotel for years. So sad. read more

After looking around the area for a nice place to stay and near the beach, I was able to come across Casa Del Mar Inn. With it being 1/2 a block from the beach it was the perfect place to stay and still be able to go out for a walk and enjoy our first family trip to Santa Barbara. The room was perfect, spacious and clean. They even gave us a complimentary upgrade to a room with a kitchen! Next time we go back we will definitely have to stay longer- it felt like home away from home! I proposed to my girlfriend on this trip and to come back to such a wondrous Inn is always a plus! Just completed another stay here in June 2025! We've been staying at this property since 2015 and visit multiple times throughout the year. We always stay in the King Court yard suite or the 2 bedroom room on the second level. Honestly, the low key, pet friendly, clean vibes will always make me feel at home. We really enjoyed our stay here at CDMI. We were hitting SB on our way home from Kauai and landed at LAX at 6AM. Ugh. We rented a car and drove here and asked for early check in with very little expectation. They went out of their way to accommodate us, and told us our room would be ready at 10am and it was, which was very much appreciated. The room was comfortable - maybe a bit dated on the furniture and decor but it all kind of just fit in. We had a "deluxe" king that has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths which was great for us. It was HOT in SB - so we asked for a fan and was given one no problemo. The courtyard was fun and when i asked the to turn on the fire they were really happy to do it. No hassle whatsoever. The room had no rooms above it or below it, or really even next to it (room 40) which was great when we came home late a couple nights in a row from concerts at the SB Bowl. We could have a few laughs without annoying other people (hopefully). Great Ice machine. :-) Really great location for visiting SB - very central to lots of great restaurants, beach, wharf, etc. about a 10 minute drive to the SB Bowl Really want to thank the great staff at CDMI for such a nice visit. read more

Great location, I needed a place close to the harbor for my fishing trips and a place where that was dog friendly. This place is an awesome, beautiful garden pathways. Cute place in an adorable quiet neighborhood, just one building from the beach. Our unit was spacious and clean, staff was friendly. Complimentary wine and cheese at 5pm in the lobby! Not really a Dog Friendly property. But they were all friendly! CDMI does in fact allow dogs for a $20. per dog, per night fee. They do have pet friendly flooring. Zero carpet. Unfortunately, there is no puppy relief area. No grass, no potty poop station on sight. They do have complimentary continental breakfast and after 5 offer wine & cheese. Hotel is in a Great location. We could see the oceanfront from our corner room. Thank goodness for the slight ocean breeze bc our room had no ac & the ceiling fan had one slow speed. Warning ! Hot water is scolding! Our stay at Casa Del Mar Inn was really enjoyable. The location is perfect for beach goers. It's right across the street! If you want to go State street, let's be honest, it's a pretty far walk which was totally fine. We totally got used to it by the end of our trip! Also, if you go "the back way" it's a little closer. That's not why this place only got 4 stars from me... The power went out Thursday night again which was totally fine, it happens. But what I disliked about the whole situation was, the management did not have an effective way of letting their guests know what was going on. No email, no phone call or anything of that sort was offered. I literally had to poke my head out our door and find out what was going on. I think Dan was in the courtyard kind of just yelling some sort of message and answering questions that were also yelled out by guests. So that was not an effective way to handle that. Other than Thursday night, the power stayed on the whole time we were there. Luckily we got a room that had a fireplace so that came in handy! Our room was pretty big (room 32 or 34) & was in the corner near Mason St. The whole place is a little dated, but it's part of the charm. The room had a fridge, desk, & living area (where the fireplace & small TV was). They offered free continental breakfast the mornings and wine/cheese in the afternoons 5-7PM which we for sure took advantage of! Plenty of parking spaces behind the building and the street as well. CDMI is a really charming place. Maybe a few upgrades are needed here and there, but had a good time overall. read more

It was nice but there are some things to think about. First, the location is perfect and the front desk assistance is above and beyond: helpful and friendly. The rooms are very nice with a full kitchen. The things to know are these: Parking: pretty rough. There are a finite number of spaces and finite street parking. They do the best they can to accommodate you, but it was frustrating. Second: no coffee makers in the kitchen. This was a complete surprise because the kitchen is fully outfitted. They do have a continental breakfast but it doesn't open till 7:30 so there was no caffeine for my early departure. Third: the office is closed from 10:00 to 7:00 in the morning. I find this a huge disadvantage if we have a concern. Also, people talk so loud when they are hanging out late at night in the gardens that their voices travel to your rooms. Since no one is in the office, there's no one to ask them to lower their voices. I guess I could have but you never know if someone goes off on you. After all that, it is a lovely and historic location and building. I found some wonderful relaxation time in the garden with a beautiful lit fireplace going in the evening. A simply walk to the beach is in your reach. There are pros and cons but we still enjoyed ourselves. read more

I couldn't wait to check out after our 2-night stay in August. The bathroom sink was not in the bathroom but in the guestroom, only the toilet and shower were in the bathroom. I was uncomfortable as my husband was in the bedroom and I had no privacy to brush my teeth, dry off after shower, apply skincare products, do my hair, etc., it was extremely awkward. The shower was also awkward, very narrow and I couldn't rinse off completely. The quality of the towels and toilet paper were very cheap. The walls were so thin I could hear our friend next door talking on the phone and could clearly hear what he was saying. The hotel is located on a busy corner and you can hear traffic, horns honking, people talking and dogs parking constantly. There was sand on our fitted sheets after the room was cleaned, it didn't come from us we hadn't been near any sand. The alarm clock time was set 3 hours ahead and was never changed by housekeeping. I honestly can only say one good thing about this hotel and it's the central location, other than that this hotel just doesn't get it right in the details. read more

I was unsure of what to expect of this beach motel, but I LOVED it. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and will return the next time I am back in Santa Barbara. The staff were all friendly and helpful and most notably Brooklyn and Dan at the front desk were great. Rooms were good size and clean. We were in room 21 which is on the ground floor adjacent to the lobby. The walls are thin and does not insulate foot traffic from up top or lobby conversation. This was my only complaint as I am a fairly light sleeper and was easily awaken. Room rates were priced well, within walking distance to restaurants and the beach with free on-site parking. Parking is tight for a full size car or larger, but doable. Check out time is noon which is was fantastic as it allowed us to leisurely get breakfast at nearby Chads without having to get up early or rush eating. read more

The staff was very professional, helpful and friendly. Our room was large, comfortable and clean. The continental breakfast and wine and cheese offering was convenient. There is onsite parking but best for small cars. I've only given two stars because of a scary incident. The CDM Inn is motel like in that the guest rooms are accessed directly from the outdoors. There is a gate on one side to the streets which is not locked. We had the unfortunate experience of a night time break-in in a room near ours. No one was hurt, the police came, and the intruder got away. But the occupants were understandably traumatized and as were others who awoke to screaming. It may be just an unfortunate one time event but in the future, I would personally choose a Santa Barbara lodging that has more protected access to the rooms. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. I booked through Hotel Tonight. Only option was a Queen which is all I needed but there was no info on the room or location of the room. I arrived and spoke to the worst front desk person I have ever encountered. He wouldn't even share his name but I overheard him saying it was Dan. I inquired as to whether I could get an interior room for safety. He said no sorry all booked. I then asked about an upstairs room and he refused that too. Said that I had only paid for a Queen and that he couldn't upgrade. It seemed clear he had no interest in helping me out. I checked out the room and felt very uncomfortable as it was on the street with open windows at street level. I walked back to the front and asked if I could speak to a manager. He refused saying Manager is not on site and that he would not share the Manager's contact info. He then said I will call him but he probably won't respond until tomorrow. Everything was difficult and contrary. He then left to go call the Manager at which point I went to call Hotel Tonight. Came back and said he would do a King for one night which made no sense for me as I had booked two. I told him I wanted to cancel and he said he would ask the Manager. He came back and said we will cancel but when I asked him how I would verify with Hotel Tonight he seemed bothered. He then said I have other things to do and started to leave. I was incredulous that any hotel would have him as a front desk person. Note the room was very bizarre with a sink outside the bathroom. No idea why there are good reviews as my whole experience was awful. Note at first glance location looks ok but as I was leaving noticed several homeless folks hanging outside. Would suggest avoiding this hotel at all costs. read more

He showed us two different rooms and we got to choose which one we liked best! There was complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon, which was a nice touch that added to the quaint hotel experience. (In other news, I clogged the toilet during my stay. I felt horrible, but when I went to the front desk the concierge didn't make me feel bad or awkward at all. He was pretty amazing!) read more

Charming little boutique hotel . We stayed in the queen deluxe room believe we paid little over $300 a night. Stayed for 4 nights. Suite was very spacious ,first room has king bed with chairs and little desk. You go down little hallway to the other queen room that's a good size with a generous walk in closet. 1 bathroom and a kitchen too. Service was exceptional sincerely appreciated Dan keeping our luggage very early at noon,way before check in. We took Amtrak and didn't have to lug it around while we shopped Tasty cheese and crackers with wine. (Wine wasn't my fav it's from Almaden Wine). Tip: Make sure you put the "do not disturb" sign . After the maid came I forgot to put up "do not disturb side" on the doorknob. Someone from the hotel (not sure who, maid? she was wearing a red shirt)was trying to show a guest what our 2 room suite looked like. I yelled and scared them off . CDMI comparable to our go-to hotel we normally stay, the Marina Beach Inn hotel, which is right across the street ( CDMI is tad better IMO!) Other hotels we stayed at has been Holiday Inn on State St. (like that one but it is noisy!) Franciscan Inn (it's pretty good), and our old go-to Brisas Del Mar (don't recommend that one anymore). I'd put Casa Del Mar as one of our favorites so far. Just knocking off one star because no bikes. read more

We recently stayed here for a few days. It is very reasonably priced but you basically get what you pay for. We did enjoy the nightly happy hour between five and seven that offered wine and cheese and crackers that was a very nice touch. Our room was small but we spent most of our time in Santa Barbara and exploring so that was fine by us. I will say that the room did not have a refrigerator or coffee maker or any other of those types of amenities, but there are many cute coffee shops in the area where you can go for that. Overall, our stay was nice. However on the third day of our four day stay we noticed a sewage smell in the room. After determining the smell was coming from outside and seeping into our room, hotel staff said there was nothing they could do about it. We asked if we could switch rooms and we were told they were booked for the entire evening yet had "vacancy" on the sign outside. In the end hotel staff offered up a fan. If it helps, we were in room 27 that was directly by a fountain. We noticed the smell only when the fountain was running. We most likely will not stay again. read more

Zero stars for customer service I was super excited to visit Santa Barbara and stay at this adorable little spot close to the shore. My dad was visiting from NY and had never been to SB, so we planned a whole road trip up the coast to Big Sur, stopping in SB for the first night. Due to the mega storms and literal ROADS CLOSING, we had to cancel the whole thing last minute and stay in LA. I tried to rebook for a later date, I was told I was not allowed to rebook on a weekend as some kind of punishment for cancelling last minute I guess?! I understand last minute cancellation policies, although I strongly feel natural disasters should be taken in to account here. As most people do, I work Mon-Friday and do not have the option to take days off during the week to drive up to SB for no reason. On the second half of this trip in Big Sur, we also had to cancel an Airbnb and I was fully refunded. Someone's actual house in a location wayyy less visited took the money loss and understood the conditions. A fancy hotel in a destination hotspot had to keep my money. Confused to say the least. I was spoken to incredibly rudely by the hotel staff over the phone, given zero option to rebook, and charged full price anyway. You can have my hard earned money, my negative review, and be assured I will trash talk this place to anyone I know going up to SB. read more
