The menu was rolled up, huge, and a bit ridiculous. There are two menus in this photo. The one next to his elbow is the main one.

The food (bruschetta & pizza) was really tasty, more than I expected being that we were in Amsterdam. We were happy to see it was open on Christmas Day, as well. Unfortunately, they were having electrical problems and the kitchen couldn't cook. We had wanted the pumpkin ravioli and the veal scallopini, but settled on pizza after more than an hour. Service was a bit spotty, but I don't think this was a fair night to judge. Would love to try it again under better circumstances.

    Bresaola pizza. Meh.

One of the worst service experiences of my life. Food was average. The only bright spot was the host, who went out of his way to get me a table, and ended up waiting on me half the time. The rest, however - ruined by the people passing as servers. Not sure if I had an official server. One eventually came by. Ignored me most of the time, but the worst part was that they were all on a headset communication system, and they were obviously chatting and laughing with one another the whole time. No shame or attempt to hide the constant conversation even while AT THE TABLE. And then the servers would look at each other and laugh and continue with whatever fun they were having. Couldn't bother with food or drinks or customers. Disgusting. I had the meatballs (super average, but lots of whole basil leaves for garnish if you like that sort of thing), and a pizza with bresaola and arugula. Also average. Couldn't wait to get out!

Located right on the canal in a two-story historic building with great views from the top floor. Excellent Italian food and attentive, friendly service. Lively spot with small tables (typical in Amsterdam) with lively crowd and vibrant energy. We enjoyed two pizzas, olives and focaccia to start and everything was delicious and fresh! Don't miss out on this gem.

This is a bit of a struggle to review, because it's in a beautiful location, wonderfully appointed interior, nice views (from our table), and food was good. I give it a star for the availability of a table on a Friday night by reservations made at noon. The food was pretty good, still worth going, but my knock is feeling rushed and pushed by the wait staff. We eat out a lot in this country and that RARELY happens, if not at all. But this time, I'm surprised they didn't start changing the table clothes while we were still finishing our desert. You can see from the check (photo included) we spent a lot for four people. She was nice, but they definitely wanted to turn this table over, even when there were other 4-seat tables open. Decent prices for the main courses, generally. Not too loud from all the people, so a good evening.

Great Italian in Amsterdam, went here with a big group, we had a fixed menu but everything was made to order, beautiful presentation and taste. Wine list very nice, lots of choices. Staff professional and courteous. A must if you are craving Italian in Amsterdam.

Great place. Food was excellent. We had an amazing view from our table. One needs reservations or you won't get in. I had the lasagna, they were really good. My husband had the spaghetti with salmon and it was so good and tasted so fresh. Great service from Frederico.

Great service especially since they were packed! And they squeezed us (party of 3) in on a Friday night without reservations. But if you really want to go, make a rezzie. Food was delicious, pizza was solid but the real stars were the pasta dishes and salads. The tiramisu and limoncello were among the best I've ever had. A recommendation by our taxi driver (who called them and got us in) was a winner. The place was lively and the food and service terrific. Leave room for the tiramisu.

Great authentic Italian food in Amsterdam. Great vibe, courteous and attentive staff and excellent food. One of the best if not best Italian I've had in the city.

So next time I was in town, I was sure to make a reservation. They anticipated my arrival and sat me at the bar. They have WiFi that works! The interior is cozy which adds to La Perla's exclusivity and reservation-only culture because there is limited seating inside. My friend recommended La Perla to me. He goes every time he's in Amsterdam. I can see why. Service was also great and quite friendly.

When we arrived we were seated immediately, though service throughout seemed a little slow as they were quite busy and not many waiters/waitresses. We ended up ordering the proscuitto and margherita pizzas, both of which were great! The margherita was so fresh and flavorful - I loved the sauce so much and the thin crust. A great classic pizza. The proscuitto was a bit more elevated with parmesan and arugula, and was also delicious! It was almost a little too much though to the point where I preferred the margherita. Also be sure to try their chili oil - it's so good!

In the open kitchen you can see (and hear!) the chef work his magic. The bread, the starters, the fresh home made pasta's and the secondi's are all amazing. They import a lot from Italy themselves, and you can even but a bottle of olive oil here. The place is full of ferrari signs, foto's of Sophia Loren, etc. It feels like a second home. Great for a nice romantich night out or a double date, maybe not so good if you go with more then 4 people, as the place is very small. Expect to spend about 115 euro for 2 persons incl a bottle of wine. Make sure you reserve a table!

On the outside it doesn't look all too fancy. Inside, the tables are closely arranged; making getting up from your table quite a challenge at times. However the waitress was friendly, and the atmosphere cosy. I had the truffle tagliatelle, which tasted excellent, but sadly wasn't cooked properly; it stuck together. Same goes for the pasta with sausage we had. Maybe the secondi taste better, but I'm not prone to go check them out after this experience. All in all, good service, but for the pricing they might pay a little more attention to the food.

The entrées on top of that were more than enough food. Also enjoy that evening. We had eggplant Parm, pasta carbonara and tortellini. From the moment we started ordering, it felt like we were constantly being told "no." Multiple dishes on the menu weren't available to order, with little explanation or effort to offer alternatives. It was disappointing, especially when we had specifically come to try several of their signature items. The most bizarre part of the evening was the drink service. We asked for wines and liquors that were visibly displayed behind the bar, only to be told they were "reserved for the owner" and unavailable to paying guests. If bottles are on display in a restaurant bar but aren't actually available to customers, they shouldn't be presented as part of the experience. The staff wasn't rude, but the overall attitude came across as unaccommodating and dismissive. Instead of feeling welcomed, we felt like we were inconveniencing the restaurant simply by trying to order from the menu. Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience from start to finish, and we won't be returning. With so many incredible restaurants in Amsterdam that are happy to serve what's on their menu and behind their bar, it's hard to recommend Sebastian. Bar and restaurant staff continuously said "this is the worst day of my life."
