A great Italian restaurant if you are visiting Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Our party arrived just before 7pm. We were seated right away although the place was bustling with patrons. We were greeted with delicious aroma of several Italian dishes. After ordering wine, we each ordered a different dish. My order was lasagna alla bolognese. We also had linguine con salmone and spaghetti alla carbonara. Every dish was full of flavor. It was accompanied by their homemade bread. Our party was fully satisfied and raved how much we loved their dish. Our server was attentive even though the place was completely full by the time we received our meal. Highly recommend. Really nice dinner outing. We had the tortelloni, tagliatelle and veal scaloppine. All were excellent. Waiters were all very attentive. Upstairs was a bit warm (went in late July) but we had a table by window so helped balance it out. Overall, meal was great although did take quite a while. We were in no hurry and enjoying the ambience, so wasn't an issue but beware if your in a hurry. The waiter apologized for the wait and gave us some extra appetizers which was nice. read more

However, I love the ambiance, it's central location, the service, and most of all the excellent food. Having tried several different dishes, I have yet to be disappointed and their tiramisu has to the best ANYWHERE! Italian food in Europe, need I say more? Delicious. We had bruschetta to start, the tomatoes were out of this world. And the olive oil was strong. I had steak and risotto, while her ladyship had a lentil salad. Both portions when they arrived maybe appeared small-ish but we're in fact the perfect size. Any more and we would have skipped dessert. Which was BTW sorbet with seasonal berries which was equally delicious. The setting : overlooking a beautiful canal in central Amstetdam. A short walk to Dam and Slui squares. With locals putting past on the canal in their boats. You can't buy this ambience. We will return here before we leave. read more

Wanting to avoid a tourist trap restaurant, we decided to ask the concierge at our hotel their suggestions on local Italian restaurants....we visited Casa Di David and were not disappointed. This place was packed and we were able to get a seat without a reservation. This is in a part of town where locals lived, so I already knew we made the right choice to select this restaurant. We started off with the bruschetta and the mixed green salad. Both were amazing, they seasons their plates just enough - generally I enjoy more salt but it wasn't needed. Then for our entrees, I got the salmon with green beans, my father got the Ossobuco with spaghetti bolognese, and my boyfriend got a spaghetti with bacon (i believe). Hands down, this was the best salmon I have ever had in my life. I touched it will my fork and it broke off in filets. The best cooked piece of fish and perfectly seasoned. Both the spaghetti's were out of this world and the Ossobucco was amazingly tender. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu - all I can say is YUMMMM! This was in the top 5 meals I have had in my life and we will be back. $110 with tip for three people to eat with drink - amazing. read more

This place was a gem! Very cute and homey with three floors to this restaurant. The authenticity of the inside was a joy! They had a real pizza oven hay had a pulley system up to the 3rd floor. One of my favorite things we ordered was the burrata truffle bruschetta! It had some amazing flavor with very moist bread. For my main course I got the seafood linguini. It had tons of clams, mussels, shrimp and prawns with a very light olive oil sauce. Fo dessert I had the tiramisu. To die for! Overall an extremely amazing meal and we would definitely be back. A great find. Nice restaurant with excellent food that is was excellent and prepared with a lot of creativity. The staff was very accommodating and excellent. We were given the street level canal view table in front on the main floor which was nice but the views from the second (first if you're European) were even better. My only complaint is that the on line reservation system refused to accept my cell as a valid phone number. Do make a reservation as the restaurant is very popular with locals too. I'll give 3.5 stars. A little better than 3, but can't quite give it 4. We were at an event for The Library which is around the corner (http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-library-amsterdam) and we knew we'd be hungry after. So we booked a reservation for 9pm and showed up at exactly that time. It's a beautiful building in a great quiet part of town, and so we walked in and stood inside the door for someone to greet us (we were happy to wait, no big deal). There was a server with the table right inside the door and about a minute after we walked in, he half-turned and looked at us with the "Can I help you?" look. Not rude, but not exactly welcoming. We said we had a reservation at 9pm. He asked if it was for two, we said said, and he said to go upstairs. It was slightly awkward. So, we went upstairs and waited another 2 minutes (again, fine) and a server saw us and we said the same thing and he pointed to a table we could sit at. We had a few different servers throughout the night, some more pleasant than others, but nothing to really complain about. FOOD: We got bruschetta which was amazing. I got the Rigatoni with beef which was pretty good and my husband got a seafood pasta which was okay. He said he would order mine if we went again. They do know how to cook the pasta which is great in a real Italian restaurant. (I should mention that my husband knows his Italian food and may compare everything to Italy) I think the menus are silly as rolled up paper scrolls. It's awkward, they are torn and I feel like a wine glass is just asking to get spilled trying to open it. The staff is Italian, so be prepared for the accents, I rather liked it, but it's just surprising in Amsterdam. Be polite with a "grazie!" every once in a while. Overview: Building-beautiful, Staff/service-okay, food-okay. Why 3 stars? Because it means A-OK! And that's how we feel. On our first night in Amsterdam we decided on Italian food. Yes. Italian. But Casa Di David got great praise from our hotel across the street and we wanted something within walking distance. So feeling very hungry and very, very jet lagged (we had been up for almost 24 hours at this point), we washed up and headed out. The restaurant was very, very busy. That's a good sign. And everyone seemed to be a local and not a tourist. Also a good sign. We were promptly seated upstairs with a lovely canal view. Great. Then a very, very upset waiter comes over and tries to make us leave. Apparently we were seated at a reserved table. He was very unpleasant and it was very embarrassing. An argument ensued between him and the person who had originally seated us. Yikes! In the end, Mr. Unpleasant told us (very abruptly) that we'd have to move if the people who the reservation showed up. So with that in mind and half the restaurant staring at us, it took a few minutes to relax. We then ordered a bottle of wine. The reserved people never showed up. Of course. On to the food... A terrific first meal in Amsterdam. Hubby and I shared the antipasti plate and then I dined on the lasagna. He had a carbonarra. The wine, the food and the view were fantastic. Absolutely no complaints.... As for the very surly waiter? I guess interpersonal communications were not his strong suit. Oh well. With the US - Euro exchange it was an expensive meal. There was a bit of an issue deciding where to eat one night for dinner with work colleagues. Admittedly, I wanted to go into the city and I think at least one of them did not. However, I found this spot and the reviews indicated that it was worth a visit. The walk from the train was relaxing and at first, we thought we were lost since we were in a more residential area, but all of a sudden, a super cute spot opened was revealed next to a canal on a little side street. Super cute! The inside was also adorable - low lighting, a pizza oven and super cool dumbwaiter system. It seemed as if this building had been around a long time, but not sure if that was just clever decorating. In any case, the atmosphere is more suited to a dinner with friends or a date than work colleagues, but I loved it. We started with the cheese/meat plate and bruscetta. Both were delicious and the figs on the cheese/meat plate were lovely! The cheeses and meats were delicious and really fresh and the portion size was large. I then had a pizza while my colleagues ordered pasta dishes. They both finished every last bite of theirs, so I assume they enjoyed the food. I thought my pizza was really good as well, though not my absolute favorite Italian pizza (but very very close!). Service was somewhat slow and unfortunately, they wouldn't let us split the bill which doesn't work well for our corporate expense policy, but we managed. Good Italian wine list, friendly-ish service and great atmosphere. The treacherous stairs to the bathroom could be improved as well as the bathroom itself, but generally, really worth a visit for the great atmosphere and food! read more

We decided to have Italian in Amsterdam. Yes, they have good Italian cuisine even in Holland. We had a great table by the front window with a great view of the entire restaurant. We ordered a couple bottles of red wine to start, and really just had 3 pastas to share. We did the spaghetti carbonara. Spaghetti bolognese, and truffle raviolis. This place gets 4 stars based off the carbonara. It happens to be my favorite pasta dish, and it was the best of the three. The truffle raviolis were a little bit of a let down, but the bolognese was pretty good. Because the carbonara was so good, this place gets my seal of approval. read more

The burrata wasn't as gooey and creamy as I typically prefer, was much closer to a solid cheese. For entrees i picked a combination plate- veal saltimbocca with a side of truffle spaghetti. My friend had rigatoni with steak bolognese and my hubby had spaghetti carbonara. I tried the other dishes and definitely liked mine the best. Carbonara was heavy on the black pepper and a bit dry. The rigatoni red sauce didn't taste fresh and almost like it was slightly burnt. We attempted to order a second bottle of wine, it never came. The wait staff only realized after clearing our plates. Unfortunately, from the moment we went through the door, we were invisible. At the entrance we were ignored. When we mentioned we're waiting for too long, we received a rude comment. When we waited to order food for 35 minutes, the waiter disappeared and acted as he was doing us a favor when he finally arrived. Even the bill was brought to us late. Great atmosphere, tasty food--lasagna was a solid YUM, duck breast was de-licious, spaghetti vongole was a little salty, and the company fantastic. Our friends staying at the Westin had the concierge make dinner reservations for the six of us, and they chose Casa Di David. We met the other 4 after they had already been seated close to the pizza oven. The menus, while creative, were cumbersome. They were rolled like scrolls, and were difficult to deal with once the burrata and mozzarella appetizer arrived. Many of us oohed and aahed over the ravioli carbonara, and Jimmy and I opted for the combo plate of short rib and ravioli carbonara, and a pizza with prosciutto and arugula. The short rib was tender and juicy. The ravioli carbonara was unimpressive. Maybe it was because we'd all been so excited, but it didn't taste like much other than cream - no pepper, no seasoning. The pizza was great, with nicely fresh arugula, a decent crispness to the crust. We were seated by the pizza ovens, and it was quite the show, particularly with the dumb waiter that was used to get the pizzas to the other floors. I'm sure that's common for Amsterdam restaurants, but it was quite amusing for us Americans. read more

It is one of the classic Italian restaurant in Amsterdam you can find on many guides (which is not too good as it is always very crowded). You definitely have to book in advance, and even then expect to be waiting a bit. We had to wait last night despite the booking but we had been offered a nice prosecco we sipped outside (luckily it was not raining). Two floor old style building right in the center, on the Singel... facing the water. Run by Italians so of course Italian is spoken but also English and Dutch. A lot of tables for the small space... maybe a bit too many. Food was really nice. As part of the welcome package as you seat, together with the menus, you get platter of olive tappenade with bread.... LOT OF GARLIC in the tappenade.. really a lot! Started with a Vitello tonnato antipasto which was served on a nice bed of salad, quite unusual but very good. The others got pulp salad and bruschette which were also very nice. My main dish was veal stake with truffle and crust... very very well prepared, great meet. The tagliata with mushrooms from one of my friends also was good but as she likes it well done, meat was a bit on the hard side. Not an incredible selection of wines, and on the wine list they do not report much information, but the Vermentino we took was a nice bottle (I know... white with meat... ladies in this case ruled!!) I was disappointed from the desserts. My Catalan cream was very average.. too sweet with too much vanilla... not my preferred. The Cannoli and the Panna cotta also were not so good compared to the rest of the meal. Over all nice place. A bit too lout, better if you get there later in the evening, but then you risk to find the kitchen closed and the menu shorter as they finish stuff (I could not get osso buco as they run out of it!!!) For the over all experience I would say a bit too expensive.. and for the glitches above, not a 4 star rating ... definitely not 5. The service was okish, borderline to get the rating to 2 stars. Ricotta pine nut ravioli !!!!! Lasagna was good too, but out of our four dishes that one was unlike anything else. We ordered a bottle of red wine, the primitivo, it was very smooth as I requested. Great service, get the bread, don't leave without dessert. We got this chocolate cake with ice cream and a raspberry filling that was our favorite .. we fought over it and attacked it until it was gone in 60 seconds. The homemade tiramisu was excellent as well even if you're not a fan of that dessert it was so light and creamy still worth it. read more

Casa di David never fails! Ambiance: Busy, yet cosy because of all the dark wooden furniture and the stone oven gives that authentic feel. Waiters: Macho, Macho Men! but hey which girl doesn't like a bit of flirting ;) Menu: Large........This is a bit of an issue because it takes you some time to decide what to eat, since it all sounds so good! Food: Great! One of the better Italians in town, and yes they truely are Italian cause as we know that is always a question in Amsterdam. last time I ate here (and I have been here several times) I had the Fettucini Nero e Bianco with Scallops, Prawn and a river lobster and can I just say..............Estupendo!!! I was there a few years ago, and I still recommend it. I was with my sister and a friend, both meat eaters, I am not. I saw three vegetarian dishes that looked good, was leaning towards one, but really wanted all three. I asked my sister and friend what they were thinking of getting and they both really liked the vegetarian dishes too. So we ordered all three, and we each got to eat a third of each. We all loved all three. We were there a little early for dinner so it wasn't crowded but as we were finishing up, it was full. We liked the service, but we didn't need much.... read more
