So glad we came by for lunch. Food was delicious. Best Mexican food I have had in a while. If you are local come out and eat if you are from out of town make this a stop on your visit it's definitely worth it

Friendly service is on tap at this small town eatery. Fried catfish Fridays, fried chicken on the Sunday buffet, and burgers as big as a plate! Great place to stop in for breakfast or lunch, but they close at 2pm! So you're on your own for dinner.

Service was good, but food was not good and pricing was a little high for the quality of food. But there is not much in camp wood.

Now let's talk quesadillas. I'm a man of simple pleasures. A properly done quesadilla is near holy to me. It doesn't need to be Michelin-starred. It just needs to be made with love. I've made plenty myself. Most look like crime scenes but all taste like comfort. That's the standard. So when I dropped $15 for a quesadilla and chips, no drink, I expected to be floored. In a town like this? That's bold pricing. That's Dallas energy. But the truth? My socks stayed firmly on. The quesadilla was fine. Melted cheese, thin tortilla, a bit of steak and salsa. But not $15 fine. And when the price punches that high, the flavor has to hit harder. This one came out like a featherweight. Here's what carried the stars: The staff. Sweet as pie, welcoming, and fast. If I was rating people, this would be a 5-star joint. But I'm rating the plate, and that brings it down to a solid 3. Would I come back? Probably. But next time I'll bring a drink, lower my expectations, and remind myself the real meal in Camp Wood is the peace and quiet.

The veggie a quesadillas were SOOOO good! Pizza was some of the best we've ever had. Salads were so fresh. My husband said the spicy cream corn was phenomenal. But peace and quiet? Off the charts. The air hits different out here--clean, wild, like it remembers what life's supposed to feel like. Sure, the cedar might ambush your sinuses, but the Hill Country more than makes up for it with its views, flowing water, and a pace that soothes the soul. Now let's talk The Chicken Coop--because this place was the hidden gem of the whole trip. Pulled up with the boys, dusty from the road and hungry from living. We barely stepped inside before we were shaking hands with the local Chief himself--friendly bloke, shook my hand like we'd grown up together chasing possums or something. That's the kind of welcome you can't fake. Ordered the chicken fried steak, and I mean this with every ounce of gravy-laced sincerity I can muster--this was one of the finest CFS meals Matt Simmons has ever laid fork to. Crunch on the outside like golden armor, tender on the inside like it'd been slow-danced to sleep in a cast iron skillet. The gravy? Rich, peppered, not too thick, not too runny--Goldilocks-level perfect. And the sweet tea? Don't get me started. It made me want to build a porch just so I could sit on it and drink this stuff all day. If they sold it by the gallon, I'd have loaded up the boot. Sometimes the best meals aren't in Michelin-starred restaurants or neon-lit bistros--they're in small-town joints where the food's made with pride, and strangers treat you like kin. The Chicken Coop reminded me: life's better when it's simple, hearty, and cooked in butter.

The chicken was crispy, the bacon was cooked just right, and everything came out hot and fresh. The fried pickle spears were crispy on the outside and went great with the ranch. We also had a root beer and a whiskey/Diet Coke to go with everything. Really good little stop after a day at the river--casual, filling, and tasty. We'd definitely stop at Bent Rim Grill again next time we're out that way.

When the guy behind the register read back the order to me, just from that, I absolutely knew I created a masterpiece. Luckily, the guy in the kitchen brought it life just as I imagined it! Absolute must: the sourdough jalapeno cheese bun. Really, every bite I thought, oh this really is a tasty bun. Two, count 'em two, patties, American cheese, bacon, and their own sauce. Man, so freaking good. Call this burger The Beast and get it on the board, baby! Had the sweet potato waffle fries, the onion rings, and the tots, and I would rate them just in that order. For a July day in TX we got super lucky and it was 80° so we sat outside (which I normally despise) and it was perfect. Could have spent the whole afternoon there!
