We came on a Sunday around 1130 and it was not crowded. They are open until 2pm Sundays. Order a bacon cheeseburger with natural cut fries and my mate ordered a mushroom swiss burger with sweet potato fries. Everything was excellent. Juicy burgers and fries cooked to perfection. They have only been open since 2020 and they made it through the shut downs. Wide open with lots of tables, two pool tables and a stage. I highly recommend this place. Come support a local small business and have a great burger! They have a jail theme (hence the name) and are right across from the old historic jail and courthouse.

Great ambience for a small town Texas roadside bar and grill. Downtown next to City Hall. Waitstaff were amazing and everyone that works here was super friendly. 10/10. Food was good. Great sweet tea. There were probably about 20 patrons there on a weekday. This ranged from hunters to a couple of older ladies having wine and a light lunch.

We stopped in for dinner before our tour of Devil's sinkhole. The service was great and the food was good. The menu had a lot of options.

Though small and quiet, this little grill puts out really good food. My daughter kept it simple with a dry cheeseburger. It comes with a side of fries that are cooked fresh, but maybe needed some time to breathe or dash a little bit of salt. The burger was cooked really well though. Noah enjoyed his carne asada tacos. Liz ordered the Potosino nachos, which were like a loaded nachos. Loaded means it came with beans, grill d tomato and jalapeno, thin slices of skirt steak, and cheese. It looked good, and I grabbed a few at the begining. I really enjoyed my Potosino plate. It was the same thing slices of skirt steak, grilled onion, jalapeno, and tomato that was on the nachos, but my plate came with Spanish and refried beans. (Same as Noah's kid taco plate). So, why the 3? It's a small place, and the dining area can be overwhelmed by a rush. Though the folks that knew were just getting food to go. There's about 7 tables/booths for 4 each, and it got crowded right after we sat down and ordered. Hey, if I can't get my coffee refilled without asking, well... Overall, I did enjoy the food. The place was clean and comfortable. It was the lack of speedy service was on no way a deal killer, but when you're on the EP to SA road trip time management can matter. Check it out if you're stopping in Ozona.

But peace and quiet? Off the charts. The air hits different out here--clean, wild, like it remembers what life's supposed to feel like. Sure, the cedar might ambush your sinuses, but the Hill Country more than makes up for it with its views, flowing water, and a pace that soothes the soul. Now let's talk The Chicken Coop--because this place was the hidden gem of the whole trip. Pulled up with the boys, dusty from the road and hungry from living. We barely stepped inside before we were shaking hands with the local Chief himself--friendly bloke, shook my hand like we'd grown up together chasing possums or something. That's the kind of welcome you can't fake. Ordered the chicken fried steak, and I mean this with every ounce of gravy-laced sincerity I can muster--this was one of the finest CFS meals Matt Simmons has ever laid fork to. Crunch on the outside like golden armor, tender on the inside like it'd been slow-danced to sleep in a cast iron skillet. The gravy? Rich, peppered, not too thick, not too runny--Goldilocks-level perfect. And the sweet tea? Don't get me started. It made me want to build a porch just so I could sit on it and drink this stuff all day. If they sold it by the gallon, I'd have loaded up the boot. Sometimes the best meals aren't in Michelin-starred restaurants or neon-lit bistros--they're in small-town joints where the food's made with pride, and strangers treat you like kin. The Chicken Coop reminded me: life's better when it's simple, hearty, and cooked in butter.

First of all, let me just say that Dawn, the owner, and her son, Curtis (the chef) have a totally charming place inside and I had one of the best burgers EVER! My husband had the patty melt on rye (comes with mozzarella instead of Swiss) and he said it was A+, too. Btw, Dawn named the restaurant JoJo's because of her pet monkey of the same name, and his picture is everywhere. Plus I had the joy of talking to 6 year old Emily about mermaids. If I ever pass through El Dorado again, I will definitely stop here again. Home cooking at it's yummiest!
