We live in Michigan and visit Barcelona about once a year and this is the first restaurant we go to when we land and last restaurant we hit before we leave. The food/tapas are phenomenal and it lives rent free in our head. The cozyness and vibe is great but make sure you make a reservation well ahead of time because it is quite small and I've never been able to get a walk in reservation. We were really surprised how much Casa Lolea exceeded our initial expectations! We each had a couple of their sangrias and these are an absolute must try when you are here! They prefect refreshing drink to end a day of soo much walking. Our table shared the truffle risotto, patatas bravas, mini beef burger and the carrot cake. The truffle risotto was excellent and worth every penny if you are a truffle fan. The potatoes here were some of my favorites in Barcelona! I would skip the burger and the carrot cake was perfection. Day 2 in Barcelona - We stumbled upon Casa Rafols by accident while looking for a church. At first, we were hesitant, but a couple walking out told us how much they loved the place and especially recommended the risotto. Luckily, there was an opening for one hour, so we grabbed it. We ordered the octopus ceviche, roast beef with Dijon mustard, coca bread with salmon, brie cheese, and for dessert, the chocolate ganache with olive oil toast. Every dish exceeded my expectations. The black truffle risotto turned out to be my daughter's favorite--she's a foodie who's eaten at many Michelin-starred restaurants, and she said it was the best risotto she's had in a long time. I agreed. Normally, I'm not a fan of risotto, but this one was so good I'd happily order a second. Wonderfully intimate restaurant and a must-try when in the city. I recommend calling to reserve a table because the tables fill up fast. Here is how to have the best dining experience : 1. Sangria N°1 for the table. A refreshing blend of citrus and spices. 2. Tapas to share - Patatas Bravas or the Potato Tortilla, Coca bread with tomato, Salmon Blinis and the Ceviche 3. Small personal bites (or keep sharing which I always recommend) - Roast beef with Dijon, Cecina with goat cheese 4. Truffle Risotto. I could eat this all day long. Patatas bravas was boiled which was very different from the traditional fried ones we've had while traveling Spain.. but I think I liked the traditional version better. Right after we arrived in Barcelona, Jamie W. and I couldn't wait to explore the labyrinth of historic alleys that define the old city. In the middle of the La Rivera neighborhood, we stumbled on this stylish tapas cafe covered in red polka dots and checkerboards, it appeared to be run by an all-female staff, and the inviting place was bustling in the early evening. The hostess asked us if we had a reservation to which we had to demur. However, she accommodated us by asking if we could finish our meal within an hour. No problem. Of course we had to start with sangria, and it turned out they make their own. My favorite dinner in Barcelona. We visited twice. I like the white sangria, tuna tartar, and roast beef sandwich. The sangria wasn't too sweet, and it didn't taste like there was a lot of alcohol in it (as someone who doesn't drink much, I liked the taste). You can easily make reservations online via Google. Absolutely phenomenal! Found this from a YouTube video. Importantly, it is in a safe part of town, as much or Barcelona is quite sketchy, especially near the tourist areas. The food here and the service was amazing. Order the potatoes. Order the roast beef and the burger. Order the bread and tomato. Then finish with the ganache. Affordable and the best food in town. Our first night in Barcelona upon arriving around 10pm at our hotel this was within walking distance and were were starving. Glad we found this small restaurant tucked in the alley. It's seriously a gem with amazing abs friendly service. All the food was beyond amazing, we actually went back a second time the next night haha. Black truffle risotto is a MUST TRY. I've never had risotto before and this blew my mind. Along with the spinach gnocchi which was the pasta of the day. We also had the octopus ceviche! Yum! Absolutely loved this place! I had missed the opportunity to go here when I was there last summer and had on top of my list to try this visit. Boy, this was good! Definitely reservations are super helpful to have. So snag one! The service was so kind and fun! We had a bounty of food and all of it tasted sensational! The foie gras with onion jam and goat cheese/pepper jelly crostinis were best bites! So damn flavorful. Loved their riff on the bravas with buttery whole baby potatoes. And wow, don't sleep on the leek soup! Silky and flavors so well constructed. Great service from the jump and then they even got us into their sister speakeasy not too far away. Loved that gesture. Great food, great service, great music, great ambience!!!! Everything is great here (as I just mentioned). But what I forgot to mention is the sangria. You could come here and just have that and be very happy (especially after a bottle). The patatas bravas are the best. The burrata, rocket, tomato, and pesto salad is phenomenal. It is a cute and quaint little spot that serves incredible food and drinks. We had the No.3 sangria and it's literally the tastiest!! It has white wine, apple and elderflower. YUM! For food we ordered: -Cecina de Leon & manchego cheese - cold cuts and Spanish cheese, what's not to like? We made the reservation same day, and chose from the specials of the day. I noticed some individuals were able to just walk-in but they didn't receive prime seating! From the cute welcoming atmosphere, to the delicious food our dining experience was perfect. They greet you with a welcome sign. The place is rather small and quaint, but this doesn't deter from the mouth watering tapas and Sangria they offer. My two favorite from what we ordered was the Octopus ceviche, which melted in my mouth. The stuffed peppers were all the right combinations of flavors, there were also my husband's favorite. Don't get me started on the Sangria, it was so smooth, and not so sweet! The total for what you see was €44,00. There is no rush, and the environment is so soothing. Found this place with a little luck. Got there about 15 minutes before noon and they were only serving breakfast. We were able to get a table and stay for lunch but would recommend getting a reservation because the place is small but the food is so, SOOOO good! We had a cappuccino and latte to hold us over until they served lunch. We had the seven tomato salad (delicious!), octopus ceviche (which was a special that day--and it was very special), and two types of gildas; one with cheese, onion, eggplant, roasted pepper and green olive, and the other gilda had artichoke, onion, green olive, green hot pepper & sun-dried tomato. Everything was out of this world delicious! The combinations we had were perfect with distinct flavors. Make sure you get the bread to sop up the dressing from the tomato salad. First, the service was excellent. Did not have a reservation and the hostess fit us in for an hour bloc (more than enough time given the circumstances). Wait staff professional and attentive. Ambiance is cozy, not too many tables and a pleasant bustle without being loud. Without being trite the entire meal was delicious. Olives were a nice variety, octopus ceviche was a must try and the black truffle risotto is some of the best risotto I have ever had bar none. Good selection of wine and the sangria is also a high point, one of the best I've tasted in Barcelona. Casa Lolea is a tiny hidden gem on the same street as Barcelona's Palau de la Música. however, do not be fooled by the tiny restaurant you see from the street, it has a back room with additional seating. We had tickets for a concert at Palau de la musica and asked inside a Facebook group for recommendations for a restaurant near there. This restaurant was recommended to us. We made a reservation and arrived an 25 minutes early. They could not seat us because they were a packed house. So we went and walked around until it was time for our reservation. we came back and waited outside for our appointed reservation time. we waited approximately 15 minutes, and the manager took note that we were waiting. Bearing in mind, we were early. Once it was our time for our reservation, they whisked us inside all the way to the back room, which was an adorable cozy space. our server, Sophia, had only been there three or four days. She apologize for the delay and said that they were shortstaffed. We advised her that we were not pressed for time and that everything was OK, and in fact we had not had to wait because we were actually early. The manager came by anyway and provided us two free glasses of cava to apologize for our inconvenience. Of course we were not inconvenienced as it was our error. However, we were so grateful for her graciousness. We ordered the soup of the day, which was a gazpacho like soup. We ordered the potatoes of the house. We ordered a delicious cheeseboard. You must beware, the portions at this restaurant are huge. The prices are fair, but we could barely finish. the wine My husband ordered was a delicious Albarino, while I enjoyed the floral house spritz. Casa Lolea is a small tapas spot in Barcelona, between Playa Catalina and the Arc de Triomphe. Highly recommend a reservation for dinner and weekends. We stopped in around 2pm on a Saturday. They had a sign in Spanish that told customers to wait outside for service. And we did. I know this is the local culture, but it's still bizarre to be completed ignored for quite some time before anyone acknowledges you're there. Someone finally came out after ~8 minutes of waiting (it is a glass front building), and told us to hold. She returned and noted we had to share a family style table if we wanted to be seated. And we agreed. Thankfully, our waitress was much friendlier. You'll find that every place has their own take on tapas. The Russian Salad was delicious. As was the burger and roast beef. The salmon blinis are delightful. Decent sangria, and they have a lot of options from white to rosé to red. We also enjoyed the Crema Catalan and the French Toast. Make that reservation. Wow, what's not to love. This was a must-do destination for our trip that I had been eyeing for several weeks beforehand. Every good thing you see or hear about this place, it's probably all true. Having went to Casa Lolea several times on our trip, I'd say get here early and come at least twice to try everything! The Goods: Everything! Food was so delicious. There was nothing that I wouldn't order again. For the craftiness and quality of the tapas, I felt everything was well worth it. Cute place, great vibes, and simply the best Tapas I've ever had. The Spanish Tortilla is an absolute must but the same can be said for several dishes and the Sangria. I highly recommend trying the Cava here as well, because when in Spain right...? The Not So Goods: For a visitor, it may be a a little hard to find but trust me it's well worth it. The restaurant is pretty small so if you have a large or even semi-large party, you may be in for a long wait...maybe try calling ahead. Lastly, the paying for non-bottled water is strange for me, but it's also normal in Barcelona so what can you expect.
