This is one tour worth taking in Tequila. Unbeknownst to me, Sauza was the first tequila to be exported to the US. The history of this place is fascinating. Our guide was very knowledgeable, but more importantly, she was generous with her pours in the tasting room. Coming out of the tasting room, you get to then make your own cantarito cocktail (Squirt, lime, grapefruit, orange, salt, chamoy, tajine, and tequila, of course). And you get to keep the jarrito when you leave. If you have time to eat at the restaurant, I would do so, if nothing else but to enjoy the view a bit longer. This has got to be one of the nicest haciendas in all of Tequila. The food is also quite good. We split the tomahawk steak and the lechon (baby pork). Both were very good and enough to easily feed three people.

Came here to have a late lunch. Service is great. Everyone is very attentive and hospitable. I had the Lechón taco and the fish. Both were very good but I would recommend the lechón taco the most. My friend got chicken enmoladas which he really enjoyed. The environment is relaxing and very refreshing as the heat in tequila is no joke. The restaurant is part of a house where they do tequila tours as well. In the backyard is a beautiful garden which is cool and breezy. Would return and definitely recommend. They are known for their Chamorro which I didn't get a chance to try but I'm sure it's great.

Hornitos tour. Excellent guide. Visited garden and learned how the farming process works. Got to plant your own agave. Barrel tour with taste straight from barrel. Hornitos Black. (Mexican whiskey) Tour the cooking chambers and taste 3 different tequilas to taste the differnce. Finish tour with a margarita drink. For Hornitos tour you get a delicious meal. Guacamole,.chips, chorizo, arrechera, tortillas, 2 drinks. Very relaxing.

We took the English tour and had a round in the garden and then in the distillery. The tour guide was great and did a wonderful job of describing the tequila process. We also got three little shots of tequila and a margarita at the end. The tour was only 200 pesos, so a great deal! Would definitely recommend!

They set us up with a private home, pool, food, entertainment. We met the other bars in the US who sold the most Jose Curevo in the US. A,B, and C properties. So when multiple folks told me this was the tour to do, I was skeptical but I was wrong. It ended up being a wonderful tour and they did a great job putting it all together. The building and the artifacts are wonderful and the tour itself was really well organized including multiple tastings. I left with a much greater appreciation of Jose Cuervo and the higher end options they sell.

(Jose Cuervo is owned by Germans and Sauza is owned by Japanese). The tour starts at the central plaza of the town of Tequila. Be careful because a number of different tour operators will approach you and you really have to be specific that you want Orendain, not another brand. They start at ambiguous times, but generally around the noon hour. The English speaking tour guide provided a background to the history of the town as we were driven out in their barrel-shaped, fun, coach out to the factory. The Orendain tour demonstrated how agave cores are pressure-steamed, crushed, fermented and distilled. The tour was quite well explained and I felt quite enlightened. However, I recommend you do some reading about the history of the settlement of the town because it adds to the whole experience (it starts in the 1500's with bloody battles between the Spanish army and the indigenous led by a priest, and continues to the 20th century industrialization). The tequila tour ends at their store, where you get really good prices on the amazing bottles of tequila and liqueurs (tequila suffused with coffee, almonds, and apricots).

Until then, everything we asked for was possible (traveling by air conditioned van for the day to multiple tastings for Tequilla aficionados and discovering lots of small, unknown brands). That day, a tour guide who has not heard of any of this shows up in her own compact, no air conditioning car. She knew nothing about what we had been told. It was frustrating- we traveled from the US for this special birthday celebration and what was promised should have been delivered. No amount was deducted from the bill for any of this, Mickey couldn't care less once he had received the fee about anything else. Disappointing.
