This is the very best yoga studio in or around town! I have been to so many yoga studios here and everywhere else and this is by far the best place ever! They have a range of different types/styles of yoga and different levels. The instructors are amazing and the studio is such a peaceful place where it is easy to walk in and focus on your personal practice or just let your worries and anxieties melt away. The greatest thing is that most of the instructors have a background in therapy and other health backgrounds. They are truly aware of the body and its functions and are so educational and sincere in their teaching. Whether you are looking for a yoga studio or not - I urge you to give them a try. Great for physical therapy and easing your body after any injury or accident. I was visiting Grand Rapids for a week for work, and wanted to find a way to keep active while here (in inclimate weather.) Thanks to the other two reviewers for highlighting Cascade! I did their intermediate-level class and really enjoyed it. The teacher was confident, knowledgeable, and vibed well with the class of about 12 people. The facility was a bit hard to find (it's the lower-level of a rehab building) but it's a very nice space once you're there. The yoga studio itself is very nice, with plenty of space, nice rental mats, quiet environment, cubbies for shoes, etc. Per Lori's review and the heated studio. It's definitely warm, even though they don't jack the temp way up. A heated studio would be WAY hotter, but this is definitely warm (probably 85 deg, if the normal house in winter is set at 72.) I'm hoping to go at least once more while in GR! read more

Took a class tonight, and the reason for 4 stars, not 5, is I didn't realize that the studio is heated. I swear, I did my research. There's even a sign announcing heated classes on Weds and Sat. Today is Tuesday and the 545p class was too warm for my liking. I prefer the room to not be heated, or at least to know what I am in for before paying! That said, it was a hard class (read: good), I feel quite refreshed and if I happen to be in GR again, I will probably return... if I can get in the mood for a warmed room yoga class. read more

I absolutely love Cascade. I no longer live in the area, but have struggled to find studios I enjoy as much in both New York and Chicago. Looking to try yoga in college for stress relief, I found this studio on Yelp. I came in knowing nothing and found all teachers to be so incredibly helpful. Viki in particular was wonderful. What I loved most about Cascade is the continuing education and emphasis on mindfulness. Each instructor was hands on and I felt very supported as I grew in my practice. I took advantage of the workshops and visiting instructors as well. They truly offer classes for all levels, which is something I haven't found to be the case with most other studios. Aesthetically, it is incredibly cozy and welcoming. I highly recommend this studio- you wont be disappointed! read more

The most mindful studio I've ever been too, focused on educating the whole. Studio with Spirit - Steeped in Tradition. Thant's Cascade Yoga. The teachers are all 500 hour certified or have more than 10 years experience... wow! They offer a variety of classes and privates and even have one of the most renowned teacher training programs in the US. I took the training last year, not seeking to become a teacher but seeking to deepen the understanding of my own practice. The experience transformed me as I learned to understand the importance of knowing: "who am I becoming through this practice"; manifesting through my diligent efforts a better person over a better posture." I mentioned Cascade Yoga Studio a lot in my previous review of Expressions of Grace studio because the two studios now have a partnership of sorts, and they swap teachers, share a website and schedule, etc. I mostly discussed how the two differed aesthetically. EoG, having the giant window in the practice studio is much more open, bright, and scenic, while CYS, being in a basement level of a physical therapy/rehabilitation, is much more quiet, cloistered, and serious. The practice studio at CYS is soundless and dimly lit, making it a perfectly intimate space for meditation and/or a more contemplative yoga session. The only downside for CYS is that it's hard to find. The rehabilitation complex that CYS is inside of is located in kind of a medical office park in Cascade. There's no signage to indicate there's a yoga studio in the basement. During my first visit, I just kind of wandered, and then it took me a while to scale that labyrinth rehab building, and when I actually found the place, the class was already 20 minutes through. With that said, I did enjoy both studios for their own merits, but generally felt more at home at EoG most days, but on the whole, I definitely liked having the option of both studios. EoG and CYS share teachers, all of whom that I've had so far have been fantastic and professional. There's a wide range of styles amongst all the teachers, so it's quite easy to jazz up your yoga practice here. Not to mention that it's a great value, as you get two different spaces to practice in for the price of one and they really offer up an exceptional amount of variety. read more

I've done yoga extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area and Vancouver, BC--both places that are known for incredible studios and a high level of instruction. When I moved to Grand Rapids last summer I was concerned about finding a really good studio. I must say that Cascade Yoga has been fantastic! The teachers are as skilled as anywhere else I've trained. They offer a deal for new clients and you can buy 10 passes for $90, which is a great deal for the quality of instruction. Very cozy and peaceful yoga studio (although if you are going for the first time, it can be a bit difficult to find), very friendly staff. A new student can pay only $20 two weeks of unlimited classes. I was hoping to try out two or even three classes, but unfortunately weather difficulties prevented that. The one class I did attend - gentle yoga - was good. The room, however, was a tad too warm for my liking - not by much, but given that it was also quite dry, it was enough that my eyes began bothering me by drying out! While I've always had decent flexibility and done sport of some kind most of my life, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.I was more flexible when I left than when I hot there. I absolutely love this studio! The teachers are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They cater to all sorts of yoga experience levels. I felt very comfortable going there by myself for the first time and have met some very nice and genuine people. Their prices are reasonable as well.
