Great stay for skiing! I was concerned about some of the earlier reviews, but we found: great location (8-9 min walk to slopes, or very frequent shuttle); clean rooms; good showers; living room with giant TV, water dispenser, microwave; indoor pool and hot tub; two restaurants across the street. The front desk manager Piya was extremely attentive and helpful. Downsides? Beds are a little hard, but still comfortable. Very nice, convenient base for a ski trip. read more

My husband and I stayed here for one night on a Saturday into Sunday. We booked the hotel the Thursday before for a very reasonable price given the location. I read several reviews in advance and to be honest based on what I read I was nervous but we were ultimately very pleased with our stay. If like me you have read a lot of the other reviews, let me address the cons that were listed by others. After staying here, I felt like other reviewers are honestly just jerks. The water- yes the tap water has a mineral smell to it but there is fresh drinking water provided in the lobby from a water cooler. You can fill water bottles or there are plenty of cups provided. You are literally on a mountain in the middle of Vermont- the water situation is normal. The decor- yes this hotel has maintained it's old school vibe and retained a lot of original decor. That said I felt that there were many updates including newer carpet than what was pictured. I personally found it charming. I liked all the vintage pictures in the halls and the original beer bottle openers in the rooms. The tv in our room was new. The beds were firm but we prefer that so it wasn't an issue. There was a mini fridge that was newer and clean. Cleanliness- our room was extremely clean. I stayed at a Hilton last month and felt our room at the Cascades was cleaner. Staff- extremely friendly and kind. Answered all of my questions politely. Price- this was an extremely affordable hotel for the location. That said, we booked on a day when I believe rooms were priced to sell. I looked up the regular rates and I think it still would have been priced competitively based on the surrounding options. They do charge extra for more than 2 people per room which wasn't an issue for us. I suspect that they do this to avoid large groups booking one room for a bunch of people- which I personally appreciate as I can imagine that could become obnoxious. We drove up for an impending snow storm and the location made this hotel worth every penny as we were able to roll out of bed early- drive 1 minute up the access road to park in the k-1 lot and get in line in time for 1st chair. There is also a shuttle to the mountain. TL;DR- don't listen to all the nasty reviews, if you don't mind an old school ski hotel, this is a clean and warm place to stay close to the lifts. read more

Everything is bad about this place. The price is bad, the water is toxic, the food is inedible, the room is disgusting, and the facilities haven't been updated since the early 90s. We expected a little more when paying $500 for a single room with two twin beds. read more

We stayed Oct 2022. The place is very old and outdated. The pool, sauna and Jacuzzi are broken since June 2022. There is NO resturant/bar or pool table to utilize. My guess is the gym is also closed. I'd never pay $250 a night to stay here again. The breakfast is granola bars and juice left in the room at the beginning of your stay. First of all, this is a ski lodge - it's not a luxury resort. If you want that, stay at the Grand - for twice the price. For a ski week, it's perfect. Clean, if somewhat dated rooms, pool and hot tub to ease those muscles after a day on the slopes. There is a comfortable lounge with a fireplace and pool table. The bar is fully stocked and they have decent pub food. Seven minute walk to the slopes or take the shuttle. What stands out, however is the staff. They were cheerful and accommodating throughout. The day I left, I had a 7 AM reservation on a shuttle to the train station and breakfast starts at 7:30 during the week. They set me up the night before with OJ and muffins. They offered more, but that was all I wanted. The shuttle never showed and I was becoming desperate for the once daily Amtrak to NYC. The innkeeper went above and beyond and actually drove me down to the Rutland station herself! I have never seen such dedication to customer service. I know where I am staying next year. read more

This lodge was a third of the price of the grand hotel for the same time period. The breakfast was very good with variations each day, it was not the junk that some places pass off and the staff was cheery and not phoney. The bar was funky and one of those quaint joints that could be a bust or you meet some one to chat with all night. Rooms are basic but it has a pool, hot tub and sauna. Yes there are some signs but on a budget this place is just outside the parking lot for killington and on the bus route. I felt like the staff are very interested in making my stay pleasant. This is not a luxury hotel but very functional. This is good value. read more

If you're serious about skiing and prioritize quick bus access to the slopes, then this is probably a fair value. But otherwise the accommodations are very basic, especially given the high price. Floors creak loudly when your neighbors in the room above walk, so bring earplugs. The water tastes incredibly salty, so bring your own bottles. The towels are cheap and leave lint everywhere. Next time I'll probably just stay a bit farther and deal with driving to the slopes. Breakfast and the pool are nice here though. read more

Very clean and extremely close to the mountain. All of the employees were very accommodating as we had a couple minor problems with our room. The heat was not on as high as we had hoped, so they set us up with a space heater which kept the room nice and toasty. The pool/hot tub are nice and clean as well. Came here on a ski trip with our kids and my parents. There are a few good things. First, you can't beat the location for this price. It's right next to mountain, basically walking distance, although the shuttle takes you there very fast and runs every 15 mins. The place was pretty clean and service was good. Also had a nice pool with a hot tub. Now for the not so good.....the food. The first night we got there we were exhausted for the ride and decided to eat there. Big mistake! Our chicken soup was straight from the can and our nachos tasteless and out of the microwave. Unfortunately the breakfast buffet was just as bad with powder scrambled eggs So, I can't say I wouldn't recommend them because we did like the location and the cleanliness of the place just don't eat there if you do stay there. read more

First of all, my club has been coming here every year for years now. There was an incident on my club's first night here and (without proof) the hotel staff blamed our entire club. There are other clubs here and individuals, but they chose to blame us. They treated us terribly for the entire weekend and denied us changing rooms for after skiing which was part of what we paid for. Awful! The staff is so rude. read more

The Cascades was seriously lacking, especially for the price. I wouldn't suggest staying unless: 1) you are trying to go as cheap as possible for a large group of friends and don't care about comfort of settings and are packing a bunch of people in your room. 2) You are a family with a ton of kids and you want somewhere that is cheap for a large family and the ability to go swimming after being on the slopes. My suggestion (if I could do it all over again) is if you don't fall into one of these two above groups, I would save the 40 dollars a night and go somewhere a bit further from the slopes. We heard from people while we were skiing that there are lots of BNB's within a 5 - 15 minute drive that are really cozy, accommodating, and have wonderful breakfasts to fill you up before you head onto the slopes. The Cascades, in my opinion, is way overpriced for what its providing and not worth the extra costs for proximity considering there are so many easy ways to get to the lodge for skiing. It's a super easy drive and there was free parking at Killington snowshed even if you had your own car. Maybe they are charging so much because of the pool? I don't really know. You can decide for your self below! Pros: - Very Clean - Location (right next to the slopes) - A pool, A sauna and A hot tub - Mini protein bars provided at breakfast to take on the slopes - Balcony and a small fridge in the bedroom. -Free Wifi Cons: - Cost for the overall product. - The Cascades Lodge needs a serious face lift, it reminded me of the place in Hot Tub Time Machine, seriously. 1990's TV's, 20 year old bed covers, really old gross pieces of quilts hanging up above the bed as decor, puzzles framed as decorations, old shower curtains, a bed side clock that my parents had in the early 80's. - Inability to adjust heat in room. - A toilet that has no flushing power at all. - The hot tub looked gross so I avoided it. - Old mattresses and flat pillows. Scratchy sheets and a really non-warm blanket under the hotel bed cover. Or a warm really gross extra blanket left in the room that looks like it came from WWII. - Really gross cheap shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion etc. - worse than some I've had at roadside motels. - The breakfast (It included: - Powdered scrambled eggs regular and with cheese, I mean seriously can you not pay the extra few dollars to get real hot eggs - I know you have them back there because there was a container of boiled eggs sitting out! - Cereal - What appeared to be frozen breakfast potatoes warmed up - Pancakes and French toast (looked questionable and really squishy) - Instant oatmeal (although the regular oatmeal ran out by 8am one morning and breakfast starts at 7:30) - Sausage patties and bacon (although i did not try them I heard a man tell the manager that there was "something wrong with the sausage it smells and tastes funny" - Canned pineapple - Yogurt -Toast etc. So although the breakfast is large, it is pretty gross. Fresh fruit? Fresh eggs? I know you can do it on the cheap come on! Get rid of the pancakes or french toast and do the fresh route a bit. Also the woman who is overseeing breakfast is a bit aggressive about checking peoples room numbers. I saw at least one uncomfortable confrontation with people who yes, were allowed to have the breakfast. read more

The Cascades Lodge is first and foremost a skiers lodge and an excellent one at that. I wouldn't categorize it as a resort hotel. If you don't know what that means then you will likely be disappointed. This was my 1st time staying at Cascades but not my last. They have everything a skier or snowboarder wants. They are close to the base lifts so you don't wast time driving up to the mountain, parking, hauling your boots and gear around. Just gear up and step outside for the bus. In 6 days I never waited more than 5 minutes for the bus either going to the mountain or coming back to the Cascades at the end of the day. Breakfast was hearty every morning. Eggs, French toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage and more. Not gourmet but plenty adequate. Room was comfortable, more like a motel room of old. Two beds a little table a couple chairs, a place to keep your skis and hang up your coats. Old TV that worked fine (who goes to Killington to watch TV?) and a window looking out over the Green Mountains of Vermont. It was nice to watch the alpine glow. There was also a single serve coffee maker and Starbucks coffee kits. I'd prefer a regular coffee maker with my own coffee but you seldom find those anymore in hotels. Room was mostly quiet at night because of a 10pm to 9 am quiet time. Our 1st night we had some spring break frat boys in the room above living it up like animal house. Not wanting to be unreasonable I waited till close to midnight to call the front desk. They were very concerned and accommodating to me and after a couple denials from upstairs the frat boys chose to quiet down instead of being evicted. No problems the rest of the week with noise. The pool is nice and big with a hot tub integrated into one corner. Nice to slip from the hot tub to the pool and back. Adjacent to the pool room there's a nice little living room area with vending machines, games, microwave and next to that a little exercise room. Down stairs from the exercise room are changing rooms and a shower for changing after skiing on your last day after checking out. We always ski till the end on the last day and it is nice to get a shower and fresh clothes before a long drive home. There's also a nice lounge with a fireplace, big TV, computer, pool table and very well stocked bar. They served food there too which was nice so we didn't have to venture out on a couple cold and blizzard like nights. Price was fair and food was good. I think the hot sauce on the buffalo wings was a family recipe brought from Jamaica. What else can I say? The staff all helped make our stay perfect. I'm pretty sure I had a conversation with everybody who worked there at one time or another. Let's see, what was not good at the Cascades? Other than the noise upstairs the 1st night, which was resolved. I didn't like the taste of the tap water. It tasted like water from a water softener. Some people are probably used to softened water and ok with it. Probably a lot of people don't drink water from a tap so this is likely not a deal breaker. We drink a lot of water so we just went to the market down the road and bought 2 5gal. Jugs and a 6 pack of liter bottles. Problem solved. I read many reviews before booking here and I've got to say, anyone with a lot of complaints probably wanted more than they paid for. It would be easy to book a double room and cram a family of 5 or a bunch of frat brothers in there and then expect for everybody to get breakfast, use the pool and other facilities. This is a skiers hotel, not a Comfort Inn with a waffle for everyone in the family. There are accommodations for everyone at Killington. If you want pampering, there's spas, if you want a fancy breakfast there's B&Bs, if you want luxury, there's that too. Your choice. If you are there to ski, then you won't be disappointed, I wasn't. read more

Stayed during the President's Day holiday weekend. Easy mountain access with buses leaving about every ten minutes. Mattresses and pillows very firm. Room was across from pool so heard door opening/closing frequently. Could use a general uplift all around. Seemed a bit pricey but premium pricing is what they get on a holiday. If I could rate this place no stars I would! Any staff I had encountered with was a bad experience! They are disrespectful and rude. It first started when I arrived to check in. The person I came with had arrived before me and told the front desk I would be arriving later. When I walked up to front desk and told them I was checking in they gave me problems about getting a room key stating they gave my fiancé 2 keys already, when he only had gotten 1! After a good 10 min this battle for a room key finally ended. When I arrived to my room it was freezen! We are in the mountains with -1 degree weather! My fiancé turnt the heat on in our room a half hour before I got there but we felt no difference in temperature. I felt the base heater and it felt like nothing was coming out . So We give it another hour think maybe it needs time to heat up! The hour goes by and it's still freezing in our room and so again I go to feel the heater and it still feels like nothing was coming out! I call the front desk and they tell me they're having someone come and look at it! Ok! Perfect! I hear a knock at the door and before I could even get off my bed to see who it was an employeees opened my room door and let themselves in.... I was in shock.. I couldnt believe an employeee just entered my Room without my permission... I felt so uncomfortable....then this Middle aged women rolls this old metal space heater into my room, walks over to the heater That I said wasn't working and tells me it's working... we both have our hands on the heater at this point and nothing is coming out and I swear no heat was coming out..she then tries to fight with me telling me it's working... if it was working then why did she bring a space heater with her Before checking to see if my heat was on or not... she then turns off my heat in my room and plugs in this space heater that guess what!!!!!! Doesn't work.... I wouldn't highly recommend never staying here!!!! We ended up packing up our belongings and renting a room at a different place in the area read more

We have gone here for three years in a row. Hotel is clean ,location very good. Alas, for some reason the owner is very difficult to deal with and has made us again feel unwelcome and not caring about our comfort or return business! that is just our experience . Clean well kept spacious rooms await you at the Cascades Lodge. The staff is friendly and accomodating. There's a great heated pool and hot tub available for guest use. There is also a nice little fully stocked bar. All in all Cascades is a great place to stay if you're skiing Killington. And the bus to the slopes is just steps away from the front door. read more

Went to Killington to ride the downhill trails, brought my family and stayed here. The hotel is literally at the base of the mountain, a 2 minute bike ride, less than 10 minute walk to the lift. My wife and kids were happy to be in a place with a heated indoor pool and hot tub. They were the only people there most of the time. Pricing on the room was great, the room was clean, nothing special, but a place to sleep right next to the mountain at an awesome price(and the indoor pool!) read more

the only good thing about this place is its proximity to the slope, everything else is absolutely horrible. The rooms stink, all the plumbing is old and doesnt work properly. the bathroom fan makes squeaky noises. the carpets have stains on them, and for 380 dollars per night we were promised a Quadruple room with 4 separate beds that can host 4 adult men but in reality its a small regular room with 2 beds and they just bring in small metal frames with a mattress for you to sleep on the floor. When you add 2 metal framed mattresses into the room there is absolutely no space left even for walking. When these issues were brought up to the receptionist gentleman he got up and left and this rude older lady came out, her name is Pia and she is apparently the owner of the property. She is absolutely shameless person who will argue against any complain you have about the hotel and her only response is 'the rooms are non refundable, you can call whoever you want'. The way this business is operated is borderline scam and its strongly recommended you stay away from this place. read more
