We make a lot of fresh pasta at home, and they always have the freshest ingredients to take our recipe to the next level. For example, many Italian recipes call for guanciale (Italian cured pork), and we could never find it locally until we visited The Cheese Iron. We had to settle for pancetta until we found this gem of a spot. Their focaccia and baguettes are delicious, and their cheeses are always fresh. They also are the only place we've seen locally that carries Lioni Latticini burrata, which is, without a doubt, the best burrata we've ever tried. We stopped buying commercial burrata altogether after trying that brand. Plus, their customer service is unmatched -- everyone is always welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Those little (and big!) elements continue to bring us back to The Cheese Iron. I'm so, so happy The Cheese Iron exists in Scarborough.

The lobsters are usually cooked perfectly, but one time, on my birthday, I got a bad lobster. It was completely rotten and smelled bad when cracked open. Since then we have been trying other places in the area for our lobsters.

Really disappointing customer service, to say the least…read more I was a big fan of Dafni products from when I first saw them at the farmer's market in Falmouth, years ago. I loved their oils so much that I tracked them down to their shop (then in Saco). I stopped in whenever I worked in that direction, and sometimes even made a special trip. I was there on one of their last days in the shop, and was sad that I wasn't going to be able to go anymore. Apparently, things have changed. I recently started on the Mediterranean Diet and was looking for a steady supply of olive oil. I remembered Lakonia, and was delighted to see that they are shipping products. I ordered a bottle of EVOO and the drizzling oil samples. Unfortunately, I didn't taste the EVOO before using it (since I had never had an issue with their oils before), and used a good amount to roast veggies for the week. I was ill afterward. When I took a taste of the remainder, I found that it was rancid. I looked closely at the bottle and it said "2016 New Release Harvest." This was 2021. I sent them an email through their customer contact form, asking for a replacement or refund. My experience in the past has been that they were friendly and responsive to their customers. However, this time the response took me by surprise. The first thing they said was that no one else had complained about that batch (how is that relevant to my experience?). Then they said they don't put dates on their labels, and would never send out five-year-old oil. I sent them pictures of the label on the bottle (with the date), and their response was that they're just trying to figure out what happened, and would send me a refund. They asked me to send back the bottle for them to taste, so I did, and shipping it back cost me $8.50. I asked how they would send the refund and the curt reply was "however you paid for it." When I asked when I could expect it, they replied (the next day) "three minutes ago." I couldn't believe how rude the whole interaction was from the time I notified them of my experience. And although I asked them to refund what I paid to ship back the rancid oil so they could taste it, they declined. I went from a huge fan of these products to someone who will never purchase from them again. Hope your experience is better than mine. I'll be buying from Fiore from now on.
