I spent the weekend in old Orchard Beach Maine, and wanted to bring home wild blueberry pie. I was searching online where to find a bakery and I came across Fernleaf bakery. I called them on the phone and they told me they had one very pie left. They were nice enough to put it aside for me. When I arrived, there were people having coffee and pastries. It is a coffee shop and bakery, which also sells breakfast and lunch sandwiches. I heated the blueberry pie up and served it with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious. I would recommend this bakery and I would love to try more things. read more

Ordered a birthday cake and a blueberry pie to pick up. The service staff was very friendly and my order was ready when promised. It's a cute shop off the main strip with street parking. The pie was warm when we picked it up, a plus! But the flavor was too sweet for me, and I'm not a big fan of the big sugar crystals on the crust. That being said, it was a decent pie. The birthday cake was the lemon-raspberry flavor. The cake was dry and crumbly, maybe over-baked? Not what I wanted. The flavor was ok but nothing to write home about. My partner and I are regulars here. The food and drinks have always been good! The owners are very pleasant and will often have small talk before we order which is lovely. The menu is a little pricey for what you get but I think it is worth it simply for the cozy and warm atmosphere. The inside is usually not full. It's small but not claustrophobic at all. There are a few chairs and a bar for seating options, as well as outdoor seating in the garden. I think most people order and leave. We typically spend a couple hours at the cafe playing cards and enjoying our tasty food. The music selection is great for the space, classical and opera. It is played at a comfortably audible volume and has never been too loud or overwhelming for us. I wanted to make a yelp account just so I could leave a review here and hopefully it helps them out. Finally, I found this place last week! A great bakery that was transformed from an old house on a back street of Main Street in Saco. I had a difficult time choosing as everything looked so good. I chose a small lemon raspberry layer cake with yellow cake and whipped cream frosting. I was excited because I love the combo of lemon and raspberry. It was delicious. Not too much frosting or filling, which I love; too many times, I'm scraping the frosting off cakes because there's too much. I also bought a cranberry orange scone that I had for breakfast the next day - yummy!! And three hand pies because I couldn't decide on the flavors - blueberry, apple, and strawberry rhubarb. I ate one each day for lunch. Great crust and filling; just the right amount of sweetness. The place is owned by a husband and wife team; she waited on me and was very friendly. I bought two things today. The cranberry orange scone had delicious flavor, but it was cold -- not room temperature, as opposed to warm, but cold from being refrigerated. Who wants a cold scone? This cute and unassuming place is tucked away on a side street which makes parking super easy. You can smell the deliciousness before even walking in. Inside is super cozy and feels like you're at someone's home and they've baked something just for you. I went in search of a cinnamon roll, but they only sell those on Saturday. And get there early because they sell out, which means they must be amazing. I got a cupcake and it was great. Lots of parking for this place. They have a nice patio outside with tables & chairs. Inside is cozy and right when you walk in you see all the cases of delicious goodies. Being my first time there I didn't know what to get so I asked the lady for her recommendation. I ate the spinach feta quiche while I was there with a hot latte. Brought home a piece of cannoli cake & a mini meat pie. They only thing that was weird was they still had Christmas Poinsettia garland up & lights. The place could use a good cleaning. I really enjoyed this place. I was visiting Maine for the weekend and while driving through Saco me and my BF saw a sign pointing us in the way of coffee and a bakery. We ended up here at Fernleaf, and were really pleasantly surprised. They have soooo many different baked goods. Whoopie pies, muffins, cinnamon buns, cookies, etc etc. I could barely choose except for the fact that they had a bacon banana muffin! I ordered that with a spiced apple cider (only offered on Saturdays) and my boyfriend had a cinnamon bun with a caramel latte. He really liked the latte, and we both loved the pastries we ordered. First off I don't love coffee (shhh please don't grab your pitchforks and torches I know this is a devilish thing to say but I swear I'm not a witch), but this place is nice. I came here to meet a friend and it's so nice. Very quiet great place to do some work on your laptop and grab a snack or a coffee. I got a mocha latte because I do like espresso from time to time and it was tasty. I didn't try any food but it all looked so good and I can't wait to go back and try a sandwich or cake! Fernleaf is a really cute little bakery. When I went it was full of desserts and things to have for lunch. I'm really excited to try as many of their offerings as possible and I'm going to have to work on that. There are a few small tables inside so I guess you could eat there, but it's not very spacious and in the Winter I wonder how bad the draft would be whenever anybody walks in. I picked up some desserts to take home and they were delicious, but I really can't say much about the good looking lunches There are so many interesting little spots to eat in the area that it's hard to go wrong if you're in the area and you're hungry. read more

What a surprise gem we found wandering north from Kennebunkport on our way to drop our daughter at camp... Fernleaf is like moving to a new town and having your next door neighbor invite you in for a coffee, and it turns out they are gourmet down home cooks! They bake a single kind of bread each day and we were lucky enough to have sandwiches served on light as air white olive oil bread (egg salad for my husband and rich almondy pesto chicken salad for me). Best of all was my daughters grilled ham and cheese. We accompanied our meal with a whole jar of homemade dill pickles and topped it off with killer cherry pie and meringue cookies. Such a delicious meal, clearly prepared with love... I mean, how often do you look for the people who took your money to say "thank you" before leaving??? Now that's a road trip winner! read more

Always have fresh pastries in the morning. They know how to make cappuccinos without burning the milk. The younger people working here are very friendly and give off a warming atmosphere, whereas, the older people aren't very personable. I also like that they do the punch card system on coffee. Parking is very easy to find around the business. Improvement: most bakeries give a discount on the coffee if you bring in your own thermos. I wish this place would do the same. read more

Very cozy and inviting right once you walk in the door. Definitely a local favorite, the owner knew the name of every patron that came in while we were inside. We got a spinach feta quiche, french toast bread pudding, ham and cheese croissant, hot chocolate, and a coffee. The baked goods were pretty stellar, and all made in house. The hot chocolate was really nice as well. It actually tasted like chocolate, and not terribly sweet which is often the case. The coffee was also better than average.
