I've lived in Duluth my whole life and have worked in customer service for the last 15 years. I have been treated nicer by fellow customers here than the employees that work there. I get they are doing their job to id but let me set my stuff down before you hound me for an ID. I'm 35 years old as well, may not look like it so I get it. Today, I was rushed through by the manager working and I know he was because he denied my Fiancé last year alcohol when he had a valid ID and threatened to call the police on him. He is almost 40 years old, so I asked what he did there. This man is extremely unprofessional and needs to treat every customer equally. I do not want to be disrespected when I simply go to buy a product at this store. I will never be back to this establishment and have told many about my experiences here in the past years. I've been shopping here occasionally over the last year or so. Nice selection and prices, but the employees are often weirdly snooty for a discount liquor store. Anyway, I came in looking for empty boxes the other day, as we were about to start packing up my recently-deceased mother-in-law's place. I walked up to the first employee I saw, a little hipster-type fella with a teenager's beard and what I'm sure were some very meaningful arm tattoos. I didn't catch his name, so let's call him "Chad". I asked Chad if I could get some boxes for the move. He sighed, did a full-body eye-roll, gestured to a ceiling-high stack of boxes near the exit, and said "Yeah, but they're for PAYING customers, only." So, whatever. Not going to argue with Chad over wine boxes, so I bought a couple of beers, and headed over to the tower of boxes. Chad then says "We ask that you limit yourself to THREE boxes, sir." So, yeah, screw Chad, screw Chad's wispy-ass beard, and screw anywhere that hires hipster jackasses like Chad. I've been getting boxes for moving from liquor stores for decades, and until Chad, I'd never once been asked to pay for removing what is, essentially, garbage. Today, I went to Super 1 in West Duluth, and they were not only helpful and cool, but they let us have all the boxes we needed. Yanno, because they're EMPTY BOXES. Cash Wise Liquor - the aisles of a grocery store - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Duluth, Minnesota

This is basically my neighborhood liquor store so I've been here several times in the last year, but that is over as of today. This used to be a great place, helpful and knowledgable staff and an efficiently run store, even when busy. All of the sudden every one is gone, new faces and nobody know anything about products. If I were to guess it seems like the staff has turned over almost 100% 2 or 3 times in the last year. I have a neighbor tell me this company is very difficult to work for and they do not treat their employees well and from what I have witnessed it seems like a reasonable hypothesis. So this last trip was the last straw. I am wandering around looking for an employee to help me find Sierra Nevada Celebration ale. the first 3 employees i attempt to approach avoid eye contact and scurry away. Later I see them chit chatting and laughing it up with one another while I wait in the ridiculously long and slow check out line. When i do come face to face with some one, she shouts at me "you'll have to wait I am on a phone call." I didn't see a phone in her hand and later she is dealing with some issue at the check out and avoids eye contact with me. When I finally found someone one to answer my question, she didn't know anything and comes out with three other people who proceed to tell me they aren't carrying sierra nevada celebration because they have to sell out of the other seasonal (oktoberfest) first. Ok, big deal, I don't get to carry on my seasonal tradition of enjoying a celebration ale with my mother in law on Thanksgiving, but I don't even get why this is a sound business decision. Celebration is a fresh hop ale and should be offered to consumers immediately, by the time this beer gets to cash wise it will be on the tail end of its shelf life. I rarely ever do this but I decide to call the store and tell them about my experience. Get this, the manager agrees with me about the stupid policy not to carry seasonal craft brews and says "we get screwed over a lot by the corporate policies." I explain I want my neighborhood liquor store to be somewhere I want to shop and I just want to giver some feedback and she refers me to some email. I told her I would just write a review on yelp instead. If you like horrible service and are not a craft brew drinker then you might consider this place. Other wise there are several quality liquor stores in the Duluth/Superior area and it is totally worth it to drive a few more minutes to shop in a decent liquor store. I have been a relatively consistent patron of "cash wise liquor" since I turned 21 on 08/15/2012. However, tonight 2/6/2017 at 10 past eight o clock I felt extremely profiled and descriminated against, by not one, but both employees working. While at the register, before even being asked, I pulled out my yellow dmv/government approved papers and not one, but three alternative forms of Id. One being a, dated, university of Minnesota school ID (of which I am an alumni) the second was my credit card, also revealng my full name, the 3rd was a family medical card through blue cross and blue shield. They borderline rudely said that they see fake I'ds from "people like me" On a daily basis. I empathized, and related to them that I see fake id's, and counterfeit money, very frequently. I work at a glass art gallery downtown, and have been there for close to five years now. The employees at Cashwise, hardly even pretended to listen (and it was not busy at all) and told me to leave. I then offered to let them run my social security, or even have my mother text/fax/email a copy of my birth certificate. However, once again they told me to leave, in a much more abraisive fashion. I remained calm and politely told them that the government official, at the dmv, made it very clear that I no longer need to carry my passport, as long as I have the papers and a second form of id. Truthfully the whole situation is a real shame. My friends and I have been coming to this establishment for the past 5 years but I cant justify doing so after how I was treated. I have never felt the need to write a yelp review . However, I have also never had a worse experience with someone that works in the service industry . I'm afraid I'm gonna have to spread the word to all of my friends. I am a person that values respect and kindness. I try to exude such, as much as humanly possible, however I cant support a company that feels the need to judge people based on their appearances. We came in from out of town, and heard this place had great deals. As the prices were decent, but the customer service was horrible. I will NEVER go back or recommend anyone else to shop here. My DD came into the store with me to help carry, and she wouldn't sell to me because of that. The checkout lady was very rude about it, calling me terms of endearment. read more

With out a doubt One of the best, if not THE best wine and liquor store in the 5 state area! I found some wines that I have been looking for a long time! I bet they hae over 10,000 different wines. Their prices are awesome. I got Hendrick's gin for under 17 bucks and a bottle of McManis Cabernet Sauvignon for under $8. This is a destination for all who like wine! read more
