The hotel is beautifully preserved with so much authentic character, history, and charm everywhere you look. We loved exploring the historic saloon, antique decor, creaky wooden floors, and all the incredible stories connected to the hotel. It was amazing knowing legends like Buffalo Bill Cody, Calamity Jane, Teddy Roosevelt, Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Kid all spent time here. You can truly feel the history throughout the building. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and passionate about the hotel's history, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere was cozy, unique, and unlike any modern hotel experience. We also really enjoyed walking around downtown Buffalo since the hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of town. If you love history, road trips, Western culture, or unique travel experiences, this place is unforgettable. The Historic Occidental Hotel is more than just a hotel -- it's a true Wyoming experience and one of the coolest historic places we've ever visited. Highly recommend! We had to get our own menu. Three more employees came by and finally one waited on us. We ordered wings and it took forever to get them. The waitress flung them in front of us and said "here's your wings". No plates, no napkins. There were probably not even 1 pound of wings in the basket. The menu said 2 pounds. No one ever came to see how our food was or if we needed anything else, like another drink. We had to ask to get napkins and that seemed to be a chore for her. After finishing our food, the bartender walked by three times looking at the empty basket but never asking if we needed anything or taking the basket away. We finally got his attention, which wasn't easy, to get our ticket.

The beds are not comfortable in comparison to other hotels. Signs are posted stating people must wear masks in public areas and yet they aren't, and the front desk is not enforcing the mandate. Again. I'm having terrible luck with hotels on this trip. +$160.00 for members or guests is a scam. The Comfort Inn at Sioux Falls is magnificent compared to this hotel and much less expensive. Franchise owners are selling substandard rooms at overly expensive prices. Read up on the Americans with Disabilities Act. Unbelievable. If the manager or owner/s read Yelp reviews I have a notice for you. I have celiac disease, I'm allergic to gluten. Celiac is considered a hidden disease under the Americans With Disabilities Act. This morning I filed a report (see photo) because the Comfort Inn at Sioux Falls, SD., didn't provide any gluten free breads (not fattening sweet muffins) or cereals. But for the other guests - wow. +$160.00 a night you should have magnificent gluten free options for those with gluten allergies at breakfast tomorrow morning. Yes. Great breakfast and genuine concern from the staff and manager I would also like to acknowledge a friendly and respectable staff and my room was clean. However, a motorcycle tourist year round I still feel the one star because of price is justified.
