First and foremost, castle place is massive. It's easy to see why it is one of the most popular beach clubs in Nice. The food, in general, was delicious. I actually think the straciatella was one of the best things I've ever tasted. That and the halloumi, as well as the ceviche, were our favorite items. The octopus, both in the fritto misto and the grilled octopus, was unfortunately rubbery. Overall, I would definitely recommend Castel Plage for a lunch or dinner. However, I had to dock a few stars for the service quality at the beach club itself. I understand that the venue is large and busy, but there's really no excuse for how inattentive the staff were. We were sat and told to peruse the menu, then didn't see our attendant at all. After about an hour and half later, and multiple unsuccessful attempts to catch the eye of our attendant, another group pointed their attendant in our direction so we could finally order just some water and drinks. Overall, I would highly recommend the food at Castel Plage, but I would suggest looking elsewhere on the beach for a true luxurious beach club experience. read more

Food- the Sole had a fishy taste and smell.... which it should not have. The lobsters were undercooked and difficult to eat. Tomhawk steak was rough and had a smell. Salad with lobster was bland. Service was fair except for the manager Chandra... very rude when we mentioned our distaste of the fish. She literally threw us dirty looks all evening after mentioning it. Ambiance- coastal garbage I would never recommend this place. The food was disgusting, and the bathrooms are horrendously dirty. Not sure how this place stays in business. read more

We spent the day here and it was so fun! You do need to make a sunbed reservation and even with a reservation we got there around 10 and waited over 40 minutes in line. We thought the reservation would get us right in but we were wrong so I would recommend reserving and getting there a little before opening (we used My Sunbeds.com to reserve). They do have towel rentals if you aren't traveling with one. It was pretty reasonably priced compared to all the other clubs we looked at. I love that it was at the end of the beach, the area for swimming was really nice. The chairs were comfortable and they had umbrellas. Our seats didn't have an umbrella when we sat down but we asked our server and he brought one right over. The staff was so nice, it was great being able to order food and drinks to your seats all day ( they just total it up and you pay before leaving so you only need to pull your card out once). Everything we ordered was also absolutely amazing! I would definitely go back and if you are having trouble choosing a beach club in Nice, I would highly recommend this one! read more

We went to Castel Plage on our first night in Nice. The ambiance was absolutely stunning. We were seated alone with a perfect view of the gorgeous beach and sunset. It was amazing to sip our aperol spritzes while watching the beach goers swim and play. We started with a delicious burrata salad with fresh tomatoes and prosciutto. My boyfriend says it was the best burrata he's ever had. We both had the cod for our meal. It was plated beautifully and tasted good. I am celiac and the waiter was very attentive about my allergy and made special changes to our food to ensure I could safely enjoy it. Overall we are so happy we came to this gorgeous restaurant. The decor, scenery, and ambiance are beautiful. In terms of the food, it was ok. The oysters were great and locally farmed. Their ceviche was also local. But the flavor profile was odd: heavy on the scallions and citrus (grapefruit and orange). They did not have any drinks on their menu with gin and forgot to bring ice when it was initially requested. Also, I ordered starters and my friend ordered and entree. I asked that they be brought together but it wasn't. Perhaps a language barrier (I only speak English). read more

The Quick: Perfect lunch spot directly on the beach, a bit elevated so you have a better view than some of the others. A bit pricier but the food was excellent! Get the octopus (we ate both and loved it!) The Details: can you really go wrong with lunch on the beach? In terms of a beach club, it's pricier than some of the others and you only have a view down the right of the beach, since it's basically on the cliff you can't see to the left (the waterfall, castle, etc). Not sure if I'd stay there all day but it was our favorite beach club for lunch in Nice! This was probably my favorite beach club we visited in Nice, France. My only recommendation is to make a reservation in advance. We did not, and luckily we arrived at opening and got the last chairs. The only problem was we were situated in the back corner because we didn't reserve in advance. This didn't hinder our experience because everything else from the club was great. Aesthetically, it is very pleasing. Comfortable chairs, large umbrellas, etc. it is located at the end of the beach, so it has a sense of being more private than the other clubs. The food was amazing, very tasty and large portions. Same with the drinks! read more

Awesome place! I have been there for years. Always the same clients returning, it feels home. I love the atmosphere, the food and even the price. Yes people!!! if you think it's too expensive, don't go to the French Riviera. Go camping in larzac . As for the food ... it is as good as it can get on a beach. Had a nice afternoon here, had a reservation at 12:30 and got a nice table at the edge of the eating area towards the beach. I ordered octopus pasta which had a great sauce which was a little spicy and had great flavor. The octopus was the best I have ever had, not chewy at all. My girlfriend got the Roasted Slipper Lobster which was also extremely good. It was so much food we could have shared it instead. Lobster was great but the pasta was unbelievable. One of the nicest beaches in nice (though a small one). The quality of the service is royal and the food isn't too bad considering the setting. Go for the daily specials or the linguini vongole. Entrance to the beach is 18 euros (for a full day). Expect to pay around 40 euros for lunch and wine. read more

Spent the day here. It was much better than the service and food at Beau Visage, another private beach on the promenade. Good service ("good" in light of French service), but not a cheap place. Be ready to leave spending $100.00 bucks for a few drinks and utilizing the beach. Also, beware of "boojie" tourists who seriously are wearing invisible crowns. FYI, many go topless, so if you aren't into that look elsewhere. Beach is a little rocky and on a slope, have to be careful. I would recommend saving your $, buy a little umbrella and perhaps some chairs, get a nice bottle and go to VillaFrance, a short train ride away. Spend 3 euros on the train to go there, you can walk to the beach right from the train. A public beach, but sandy, where all the locals go so you avoid these overprivileged tourists with a serious sense of entitlement and can save that $100 bucks. read more

I think this is the best beach in Nice. Smaller than others, high quality beds (the only beach with beds like these), classy logoed towels, very good service. Put everything on the tab and relax. Pay when you are done. The food is very good, delivered to your bed or enjoyed at the table. Good choice of wines/cocktails. Next to Old Nice if you want to wonder into town. Worst Niçoise salad I've ever had. filled with celery???lima beans?? had a nice prosecco though. very overpriced. the menus were simply screens (like an ipad). there was no option to select your order, it was just a picture of a menu on a screen. after the meal, we hoped to get a lounge chair on the beach but they lied to us and said that there was no more space. service was terrible overall. so naturally, scammed our way onto the restaurant's private beach by simply walking over from a public beach next door. read more

I visit a beach restaurant the other day with my family ( Castel Plage ) ... we are seated its a beautiful day... the menu is overly expensive ( to the point of my wife saying lets just jet ) - but I insist on staying and having a nice time ( first mistake not listening to the wife unit ) -- so we order a few items on the menu and a carafe deau ( free water )... the waiter takes a really long time... and the kids start whining... but Im still enjoying the view and the weather -- eventually he shows up... and as he's rolling to place our orders on the table - he drops one of them on the floor... next to a few dogs... instead of leaving it for the dogs ( which would not have bothered me a bit ) ... he scoops it up without even acknowledging us and dissapears ( hmm. what are they doing with that food behind the scenes? bah ) ...it was the mozzarella tomato and boeuf carpaccio with frites Americaine ( french fries ) -- then he returns later with a much smaller plate of a similar form...and w/o the frites... and no water... nothing... he leaves...and never returns... the kids complain again... thirsty.... and now the wife really complains - where is the water? where is the fries that supposedly with this 24 dollar plate of cheese and tomatoes? so I walk off to find the waiter... I very politely ask him where our fries are? ( you should see me in other countries - Im a diplomat of kindness ) he quickly and with annoyance says no ( he's a guy with curly short locks and snoot nose to boot )... there are not fries with that order... I look at him cockeyed...taken aback - and ask again - politely... are you sure? yes! - he exlaims and then shoos me off back to the table claiming he will send another waiter to me ( he didnt like that I began to cause a scene actually rebutting his push off ).... a few minutes later his lower sibling returns.. with a menu... to which I quickly sort to the order page and say... this says FRITES... and you brought us frites before your partner dropped them on the floor.... to which he replies... no the menu is wrong ( its old ).... This my friends is whats wrong with Europe... the menu is not wrong... the people are ignoring the reality that their 24 dollar plate of tomatoes and cheese - even with the fries you owed us... is not really as great as it needs to be to sustain the reality that I will eventually take my moolah somewhere else.... aka: take your moolah somewhere else... theres plenty of great views on this beach and miles of them around... avoid this place if you want honest service... I would have been happy to lose the fries if the guy just said - hey man - Im sorry my boss will kill me for dropping this stuff... I actually would have given him a bigger tip to help his day along... everyone makes mistakes... but lying and treating me like an idiot? well... sorry.. that won't work in my book... My 2 stars is not based on the location, food, or ambience. My 2 stars is based on the following: My friend and I came here for lunch and spent over 200.00. After lunch we decided to rent 2 chairs and 1 umbrella to lay out on the beach. We asked for water from the waitor "beach attendant" name unknown. He asked if we wanted tap or sparkling. We said tap is fine. Which we noticed pretty much everyone had tap water on their tables and furthermore he brought it in an Evian glass bottle but the bottle was already open when he brought it, so who knows where that tap water came from. In any event, he placed the water and 2 glasses and left. He didn't say anything about us having to pay for it. So our day ended and we left. After we left and had walked down a few mins, we heard someone shouting at us running behind us. The waitor beach attendant that brought our water in a very RUDE manner said that we didn't pay and owed him 5 euros for the water. Not only was he super rude in the way he approached us as if we were thieves, but there had been no mention to us that we had to pay for tap water. Especially considering we had just spent 200 euros at their restaurant. In any event, I paid him the 5 euros and walked away. 5 euros for tap water... shaking my head. I don't think that's how much it was but didn't want to argue with him. I don't appreciate being treated like a thief when I generously had contributed to the business. He had facial hair and curly like brown hair. stay away from him!!! read more

The food was only ok, especially given the prices. If I based rating on food only, I might give it two stars. However, the service was the worst we've had. We've been traveling through France for the past three weeks. We've had incredible food and met so many lovely people. Came here to celebrate a birthday dinner and the waiter was exceedingly rood. I have heard about French snobbery, but had yet to experience it until last night (and we've been here for 3 weeks!). The waiter scoffed at us, ignored our table and served us our cocktails with little to no alcohol in them. It was shocking that a person could be so rood to another person, let alone a paying customer at an expensive restaurant. read more
