"Life is a beach, I'm just playing in the sand" are the words of Lil Weezy. And at La Reserve de La Mala, life is a beach. One of the coolest beaches/restaurants in the world. Not just for the warm water and beautiful scenery but the people that come to La Mala beach, the music played by the DJ, and the delicious food all combined create an all around perfect beach. Forget St. Tropez, Ipanema, Playa del Carmen, Belize, Florida, and Hawaii. While I do love all those beaches for different reasons, and really if you're hanging at the beach, life is still pretty good no matter which one you choose to chill at, La Mala is a cut above the rest. Definitely geared towards a younger high society crowd, the vibe is still amazing. However one downfall is that there isn't sand. It's rocks. So plan on bringing your water shoes. On to all yelpers most important subject, food. Here's what my table ordered: Mixed Fruit plate: a combination of every fruit I could think of plus some fruits I didn't recognize. The presentation was nice and the fruit was refreshing under the hot sun. Actually this is the only dish I got a pic of. Pizza Magherita: any Yelper from San Francisco is probably an expert in Magherita pizzas by now. The Magherita pizza at La Reserve was the best I've had yet. Chicken Caesar Salad: I didn't try the salad but a couple of my friends did. They said it was really good. There was a lot of food (such as seafood, etc) being served to people around me that all looked Food or Travel Channel worthy. I was looking for a beach club wjth a view outside of monaco for a day trip and stumbled upon pictures of this place. I saw that you may want to make reservations so I called and I was blanking on the word "loungers" when I called and the gentlemen asked me if I knew how to speak english while laughing so I was like okay a little sassy but was still open to trying. If youre coming from the train station its a nice little walk through a neighborhood. When you see steep steps to your left with a small la reserve de la mela business sign that looks like you might be trespassing then youve found one of the entrances! We were sat down at the loungers on the beach. Our server came up and asked if we wanted to start with a bottle of Dom Perignon which we laughed and declined. We ordered the local lager & a Chablis which were both good. We also ordered one of the pizzas which was really good. We continued drinking and enjoying the beach but there wasnt much of an atmosphere, no music :/ we wanted to get a couples massage but they only had one masseuse but I would like to note that she was the nicest person working at that establishment and so she deserves a mention. We ended up spending around $250 and wouldve spent much more if the service and atmosphere were good. At the end of our visit the server said oh theres no pin to your card I can just charge it to $500 yeah and I just laughed nervously because I was uncomfortable. Like we get it your a private beach club but ive been to private beach clubs around the world and this is one of the less desirable ones ive been to. Its tacky to bring up money so much. If there was a good product there then you wouldnt have to awkwardly push a bottle of dom perignon. Next time im in South France I will skip this place :/ read more

This is a difficult place to find, but here's my best: From town you want to take Avenue Charles Blanc and when the road splits go to the right on Allee Mala. Make a left onto the small road and that quickly turns into several hundred stairs down to the beach resort. There is hardly any parking on Charles Blanc or Mala, but you might get luckly. You might have to walk from the main road. This resort is worth the walk. read more

La Mala is a beautiful little beach that you reach via a small road of the Basse Corniche in Cap d'Ail. You have to park well above the beach (parking is a challenge in the summer!) and walk town to the beach using the stairs, easy when you come down, hard work when you come back There are two restaurants and private beaches in La Mala, La Reserve being the most popular destination with a pretty beach with white sun beds and a great restaurant (with Mediterranean cuisine including pizzas). Lunch is good, overlooking the beach, but dinner is probably even more special with a romantic view over the Med and the impressive cliffs illuminated by the pale light of the moon surrounding you. Worth trying if you are in the region and want to do something a bit special. read more

We attended a wedding here with a dinner and dancing late into the night. It is a magical place, a small cove surrounded by cliffs with stunning houses clinging to the rock. The food was excellent, the wait staff was prompt and stunningly attractive. This is expensive, but everything has to come in by boat as the alternative is 100 stairs coming down the cliff. We went back the next day and rented beach chairs and umbrellas, listened to the club music and had some good flatbread/pizza & drinks, swam a couple of times in the lovely sea. The only downside is that the beach is made of very large, rough stones that are tough on the feet - water shoes are recommended. read more

The beach is amazing. The most beautiful and clean water that I've seen around the Côte d'Azur. La Reserve is a nice place, good people, good music. Thankfully well frequented; you won't see that young new generation that comes there only to party. It's much more a place for families. The food is overpriced for what they offer and the menu is not that interesting. If you're a foodie, then don't expect to be amazed by their menu. It's a shame because they have a huge potential. I don't wanna blame the cook, it's just a shame that this place makes much more effort on their drinks rather than their food, moreover when you spend a whole day over there. Their clientele were mostly Russian and American, not that much French people. You have to book your seat at the beach before going there or you won't have anything available. The place is pretty small and intimate which is a good point. If you come after noon without any reservation they'll make you understand that "if you wait while having lunch they will give you seats", which felt a "little" cheap from them... But business is business I guess. The staff of the beach were cool, very friendly and nice, but I had to wait a little too much to get served at the restaurant, and it wasn't that packed when I had lunch. I would go back there but really because of the location. The toilets were not THAT clean, same for the changing room or the shower. I mean, if you're a neat freak like me, then you'll be disappointed. read more

Probably the worst place on the coast, overpriced and really overrated. They have the habit to cancel reservation without notifying the client, they try to scam you by selling you the most expensive bottle of the card. It's an honest NO GO FROM A LOCAL. read more
