AVOID BOIZELLE AND ERIE! We have had homeowners insurance…read morewith Boizelle since 2004 and car insurance with them for several years longer than that. Today I got a call from them saying that our homeowners insurance was cancelled and that we are currently exposed without insurance! They said that two notices were mailed by Erie to our home but they didn't receive payment so they canceled our coverage. We have always faithfully paid our premiums when bills have come for the last 20 years. I don't know why we didn't receive their notices in the mail but I told Boizelle that it is a horrible policy to not receive a phone call about this BEFORE TAKING THE STEP TO CANCEL OUR POLICY! The first phone call was after they canceled our policy! We certainly would have paid immediately if notified by phone that it was necessary to do so. I would have even been OK with automatic payment via our credit card in order to stay covered. Bottom line, they said that to get coverage again we'd have to start from scratch by getting one of their people out to our house and drafting up a policy as if we were new customers. This is a boneheaded policy. Being left uninsured by surprise is a big deal and a poor way to treat a loyal customer. I know that there are better insurance companies out there that wouldn't have such ineffective practices. At least I know some good questions to ask other potential insurance companies before I give them our business.

When I moved into my neighborhood years ago, I went the easy way with picking my insurance agent,…read moreusing the same State Farm agent that the community was using for its master policy. In retrospect, that was a really bad decision as the agent pretty much took all of our business for granted, between being pretty much unresponsive when it came to customer service, never doing policy reviews, and ever-increasing premiums despite never having filed a claim. The last straw was when I reached out to my agent to help solve a problem about some of my policies not displaying online several times, finally receiving a response telling me to get in touch with State Farm's IT department directly. Excuse me? What's an agent for if they don't work on behalf of their customers? It was obviously time to leave State Farm and shop around for a new agent. Several of my friends have used Erie for years and spoke very highly of them, so I hopped onto the Erie web site and found Foresight Insurance quite literally a few blocks away from my house - and this was indeed my lucky day, landing in the hands of Michael Cruz and his team. I made an appointment to meet Michael in person, and he spent well over an hour with me reviewing my old policies, asking me a lot of insightful questions about my home, car, and umbrella liability policies, then going through some options with me. By the end of our meeting, I not only had better coverage that were well-tailored to my individual needs, but my premiums actually went down significantly. The excellent customer service experience didn't end there - not only did the folks at Foresight arrange for canceling my old policies so I wouldn't have to deal with State Farm directly, Michael followed up with me about a week later to bring me up to date on the transfers and to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. When I traded in my old car for my new wheels a few months later, getting the new insurance in place couldn't have been smoother, with Michael's team also making sure that I knew what to do when - including not cancelling my old auto policy before turning in my tags! All of my questions have always been answered very quickly, often within an hour of me sending an e-mail. You can't ask for better responsiveness than that! I'm just coming up on my first year with Foresight, and once again, Michael has shown how focused his firm is on customer service, doing a policy review with me and making some minor changes to my policies to bring things up to date. You really couldn't ask for better people to work with - they're very good at what they do, they put their customers first, and they're incredibly nice people as well. So, the next time your renewal paperwork arrives in the mail, give Michael and his team a call and get an 'insurance check-up'. You'll be very, very glad you did!

State Farm was amazing, from my agent visiting my home personally to my adjuster who WAS AWESOME (go Gina B!), to the people on the phone, to the subcontractors, I could go on and on. When the tree hit, I was displaced with my two dogs. First I was moved to a pet-friendly hotel and then I was placed in a lovely pet-friendly apartment in Bethesda (my choice of location). I was out of my home for six months, so it was significant. Everyone made it so clear that the first order of business was my safety, my comfort and keeping inconveniences to a minimum. No one ever qualified any statements with any hint of things not being covered or me reaching my limits of coverage. I was amazed at how genuine and sincere everyone was. Not only that, but everyone was also on their game 100%. For many reason, I chose to sell my home after the damage was repaired, but one contributing factor was that I was certain that as fantastic as everyone was, business is, after all, business, so I thought for sure I would be dropped by State Farm and stuck with some cut-rate coverage at an astronomical rate. That said, no one ever even hinted at dropping me, and when I needed renters insurance, well, to quote a phrase, State Farm was there. They are also covering my rental property and car.
