We had an afternoon tee time at 2:30 and just about had the course to ourselves. It took us until the 15th hole to catch groups in front of us and we never saw anyone playing behind us. Their twilight rates made the course relatively inexpensive. As far as the actual course goes, it's absolutely beautiful. The scenery is amazing as you play many holes right along New River. It was peaceful and relaxing to hear the sound of the moving water. The course played so well. Some holes were a little tough, but I'd expect no different since it's a Pete Dye design (RIP). This course had been on my state-by-state golf course bucket list for a long time so I was glad to have gotten to check it off. I could see myself going on a trip to go play there again down the road!

One of the flatter courses I've ever been to as well. The routing is very well done and the river can come into play quickly on a few holes. Not many trees except on the edges of the property. Pete Dye uses mounding (eyebrows) on the far side of his fairway bunkers to play tricks with you visually. I actually liked it. From above they seem like little dabs of paint on a beautiful canvas. If you are at the far side of one, it's easy to get out but you can also roll against that raised face and have to go out sideways. Honestly sometimes playing down the wrong hole is the easier way to get to your green. All the holes are memorable but take the time to climb some stairs to get to some of the raised tee boxes for the championship tees, they have the best views. As with most Pete Dye tracks, the greens have shaved sides where you golf ball can end up far below the level of the green so be careful. Middle of the green isn't a bad place to be. Up above (maybe 80+ feet above the course?) you have the clubhouse. The pro shop was decently stocked but the person working there seemed more annoyed by any questions I had about the merchandise and pricing. The starter, however, was excellent. The practice green gives you a good sense of what you will face on the course. There is also a practice chipping green/bunker area and a small driving range. There seemed to be a learning center on the far side as well. I played as a single on a summer Sunday afternoon and got around in 2 hour and 20 minutes. Had to play through two groups but that's making good time. Next time I hope to walk this course. The only brutal part would be the long climb back up the hill. I definitely hope to be back.

I show up with our group to be told we owe $25ea per person per cart so my team of 8 owed yet another $200. This is part of the Glade Springs resort package and was the only course charging us extra for carts. We argued that this should have been part of the cost. We were told to pay up or no play, or we could walk the course which would not be physically possible.We complained to the resort and they offered us to replace the play here with the Cobb course. We ended up playing Cobb 3 times in 2 days due to their other 3rd course being closed for a tournament. READ YOUR FINE PRINT AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE PAYING ANYTHING! What a ripoff!!

The pools are pristine and inviting, the hot tub is glorious. The staff are incredible friendly and polite across the boards. The food is delicious - go for the pizza at The Salt Pond/Petoots! The interior decor has charm and character and is meant to evoke an age gone by. Our room could have used a little attention - a couple spots in the room needed a little paint or fixing a small gap in the tile around the grip bar in the shower. But it was clean and comfy! Perfect for 3-4 guests.

The room was very underwhelming, the door wasn't shut all the way when we went to it anyone could have been in and out of the room so that was really weird. The room seemed kinda run down. The bed frames were very wiggly and squeaky. With not having any activities or anything to do it would have been nice to have a tv. Everything was closed by or before 8pm. None of our phones were working great. We pretty much didn't have any service. They still had the Christmas lights on the building from winter. They were banging against the window the entire night. It was very loud and kept me awake almost all night. The next day it was raining and they were expecting snow that night. So not the best weather to explore. Again it was a new desk manager in the morning and he was very helpful and kind. Unfortunately they were working on the back driveway so the only way was to walk all the way around several buildings or to carry all of your stuff down the stair. Thank goodness for the front desk manager carrying several things for us. But this was massively frustrating not to be able to use that area or see the few spots from the movie. The resort has history and is very pretty but definitely isn't for everyone. We live far away and made a special trip so it was disappointing to say the least for the price especially. To be able to share the experience with my mom is what I will cherish. But I wouldn't go or stay again.

The fairway is probably 60-70 feet below you and stretches out towards the tree line. The par 3 2nd comes back a little to your left, and then you see the third hole as it wraps around water just below. Absolutely stunning. It's a tough track and I would say is fun from every set of tees (black, blue, white, gold, and even the red tees). Water comes into play on about a dozen holes. Highlights are the first tee box/first hole (it's a reachable par 5), the third as it wraps around a pond, the second half of the par 5 5th hole, the eighth hole looks like it's on top of the world, the views from the 10th tee box, the thirteenth hole (a brute of a par 5), and some of the best par 4s in Virginia (holes 15, 16, and 18). I stayed in the smaller of the two lodges that overlook the 18th green. We had a suite with a master with a king and another room with two double beds. Lots of space, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a porch. It was also the cleanest room I may have ever stayed in. Some of the nicest views were from the porch that included the storm that rolled through at night and the fog that followed in the morning. There is only one restaurant on property and the food was excellent. Love that the dessert menu was never fixed. I had an ice cream cookie sandwich that was excellent. The people here truly make this place special. Whoever cleaned our room deserves a raise. Bo (the head pro) and Sherrie in the pro shop are maybe the nicest people I have met playing golf, and that is saying something. The wait staff and grounds crew were all extremely nice as well. I know there is a 5-star resort down the road that I visited for a bit, but I would much rather be here every day of the week. (Not saying I wouldn't turn down a free stay and play at the other place.) Needless to say this is now on my list for places to have a relaxing weekend getaway filled with great golf.

They were gems and showed us where, why and how of the course. Great company for sure. Now I like to think I am a good golfer (hit long off the tee and fairly accurate with a good short game) 11 handicap...Thus course had some major league elevation...Not a poppy Ridge out in Livermore, CA but there were hills. My drives were freaking huge...Regulation was hit in most cases and I even drove two Par 4s...What killed me were the greens...Not only were the fairways elevated so were the greens!!!! It is narrow so if you are a sprayer like my cousin, you will get frustrated. Alas, lack of familiarity of the course did me in and I shot an 89. Keep in mind the slope is a tough 126...Average is 113 in America. Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, CA is 131 and is a very hard course and I shot 2 strokes better there; it was the home course of LPGA Pro and Asst. Captain of the Solheim Cup Champion team of 2024. I shot an 87 at Castlewood which is also a tour length course but here ai shot an 89! It is a tough little course but the company was exceptional. Thank you Garland and Mike! Only hit was that the greens were not Maintained well enough but it is winter. I get to knock West Virginia off my list of Places I have golfed...I would like to come back and play this again for sure.
