I feel badly saying this, but when we pulled up from the GPS, we laughed. The lighthouse is a very minimal, old, not inviting, colorless structure. There's almost no public seating. There are barely any signs explaining the area. It has so much potential but none of it is utilized. A lot of tourists were milling about with similar confusion. On a funnier note, a local here told me that Marblehead, MA will sometimes use a lighthouse photo of the one from my state in Marblehead, OH because they also agree there's is disappointing. Three stars for the surrounding waters if you're not used to seeing water.

"Built a fort out of sheets I finally found you…read moreMy missing puzzle piece I'm complete" (Katy Perry) Overlooking Marblehead Harbor, this coastal fort dates way back to 1644, and was one of the oldest English sites of seaside defenses in North America. It came under American control during the Revolution, was rebuilt in the early 1800's when a battery of big guns were added to defend the harbor from enemy attacks. It served an important defensive role in the War of 1812, transitioned into a town park in 1892, and even returned to military duty during the Spanish American War in 1898. Today, it's a public park and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975. The park offers you stunning views of the harbor and the hundreds of boats crossing the waters. The Fort Sewall grounds are loaded with historical sights - maps and markers and plaques and remnants of the old fort including underground prison cells are everywhere. Some of those big guns that defended the harbor from enemy attack are still there, others are gone but there are ghostly markers on the stone walkway showing where they once proudly stood. It's a glorious place to walk around, enjoy the scenery and imagine those big guns blasting away to defend the harbor two centuries ago.

One of few areas on Marblehead with public parking - and restrooms - available…read more We were more thankful for public parking than I can say after attempting to visit several nearby sites (a beach and reserve) requiring seasonal recreational/residential permits to park! As non-locals parking permit requirements in the area gave a very exclusive vibe that was very off-putting. What a joy and relief to find this chunk of land where all are welcome! This park offers two shaded seating areas, benches facing all directions, a historic lighthouse, commemorative plaque, restrooms, drinking fountain and bottle-fill station. Bring sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and/or layers and enjoy! We had a much-needed restroom break, a little bit of rock scrambling, lots of picture-taking and water-bottle-filling session and were on our way. Not a bad park to stop for just 10-20 min or stay for a while!

We passed through…read morethe town of Marblehead and this was where my first taste of how life in New England happened. The town is a beautiful seaside town. Loved the atmosphere here. We stopped at a small hidden park in Marblehead called Castle Rock Park. Perfect place to relax, and watch and listen to the ocean. Cool little factoid for all you history buffs, according to our tour guide, Marblehead is one of the towns which claim to be the birthplace of the US Navy. That's cool. Wish I had more time to explore this place, but what I did see I loved.

A beautiful large and windswept beach in the North Eastern suburbs of Boss-town up on the North Shore that is gorgeous and much less touristy and much more unspoiled than the more famous and curvaceous Revere Beach. I love both but if I had to pick a favourite I'd pick Revere. I definitely love coming here though and it reminds me a lot of Newcastle in the northeast of England.

The commons actually weren't that busy, even though the streets were a filled with trick-or-treaters. There were lots of food vendors, and merchants on site and plenty of people in costume. We did get to walk around the common and learn about some of the history of the area which was cool. It's also a really lovely green space. It was difficult to enjoy the circle unfortunately, because there were a group of pharisaic incels walking around in circles with megaphones. Parking was also pretty atrocious but it was Halloween after all. The space itself seems really lovely and I think it's great that people in the community have a place they can gather. I would definitely come here and have a picnic if I lived in the area.
