We came in and both ordered the full Scottish breakfast and wow was it worth it. Locally sourced meats and cooked to perfection. My only slight down point is my tattie scone was a little hard for my liking however the other half likes hers hard enough to hit a nail with so I won't mark them down for this. The food was freshly cooked and bacon was crispy. Coffee was nice and well made. The service was impeccable. While we were in another customer came in and asked for something off the menu and it was instantly accommodated. If I could give 6 stars I would.

I opted for lasagne which was served with salad and chips. It almost reminded me of a school lunch in that it was comforting. Hubby's burger was well seasoned and quite tasty! Dessert was homemade profiteroles in chocolate sauce. It was tasty but didn't rock the tastebuds. It's a little out the way from Glasgow as it's just outside of Kilwinning. When asked for a new cup, they offered hot water to dilute what I had. The room was fine, large enough for us. Only down side was the worn carpet. I can live with that. I'm general, the place has, based on looks and atmosphere, great potential. Unfortunately it looks tired. Staff was mostly young and with the exception of the desk clerk, didn't deal with issues well.

Wanted to see the heart of the country and Stirling. SO glad I did. Got a fantastic rate on this hotel and it looked gorgeous so I thought Id give it a go. I was not at all disappointed. The location as mentioned was key. It is literally right there. Walk to everything you'd want within minutes. To top it off they had a great restaurant and bar in the lobby. The room was huge and the bathroom spectacular with very modern amenities, a giant glass shower and spa tub. The people were super welcoming and accommodating. Our bedroom was not well sound-proofed. We could hear loud chatter late into the nights and early in the mornings from the hallway and the patio outside. We even had random pounding on our bedroom door at one point. The pool hours were also very minimal, not open into the evening hours as I would have expected or enjoyed. The hours were shorter on the weekend than during the week, which seems really odd for people wanting to enjoy their holiday. They were also out of the standard doubletree cookies/biscuits, which was a bit disappointing. The bedroom was a nice size and the beds were comfortable enough, though creeky. However, the bathroom was small and not well laid out. Overall, it just was not relaxing or pleasant like we had hoped.

Excellent conversation and recommendations. They're truly making our stay wonderful. Having expected a dirty cramped room and lousy service I was overwhelmingly pleased at being dead wrong. The Inn is owned by a older Scottish couple who were quite spunky. The wife services the bar / restaurant in the evening and the husband in the mornings. They make all of the food from scratch and it is proper Scottish food. I'd got a red tartan hat in Edinburgh and the man teased me a bit to make sure I understood what it was before complementing me on it. They simply could not have been nicer. One odd thing is that in early to mid day you have to walk through the pub to get to the stairs to go up to the room. This is clearly the best local watering hole as all of the locals in the teensy town of Doune were there. They helped us get in and offered to take our bags up for us along with opening the door and all moving. The Scott's really do have a way with hospitality. Now the room was great. The bed was comfy and there was very little to no noise at all despite a pub being below us. The dinner and breakfasts there were also top notch all local made on the spot style. Bonus: This place is a five minute walk from Doune Castle, which was the castle used for every single Monty Python and the Holy Grail castle scene.

The hotel is an old mill and in the restaurant they have a glass floor and as you eat from the great menu you can watch the wheel turn the water beneath you, this is not something you get in many restaurants, and it's a nice change. The building itself is very old and I love places like this. They offer some cook traditional British food on the menu. The restaurant is on the river bank and you could be mistaken for believing you are no longer in Mother well, if you are looking for a break this is the place to visit.
