Victor Castro represented me when my 16-year-old daughter wanted to live with me after Santa Clara County gave her father custody 6 years prior. Castro knew my daughter would not be able to be in court because she was 1) in a new school and did not want to miss, 2) afraid of her father after several threats she recorded him making to her, and 3) we could not afford airfare for both of us. Castro not advising the court she would not be present gained him about 4 hours of time he charged me for while Family Court Services (FCS) went round and round about how to handle the case. I had arranged for a counselor at the new high school to be with my daughter and take a phone call from the court or FCS to verify with my daughter, the need to live with me. The judge awarded me custody and also a change of venue to Stanislaus county where my ex-husband's parents (and him supposedly). I asked Castro to ask the judge to include an order to stop child support as well. I thought the support was coming off an unpaid debt of almost $20k owed to me by my ex-husband for years that I had custody. Castro refused to make that request, saying I could deal with that later in Stanislaus. The judge asked the Stanislaus-based attorney for my ex- to write up and file the orders. Castro unexpectedly charged me another $1200 for his expected efforts in ensuring the orders were filed. ONE YEAR LATER, I received the orders, which said nothing about the custody change. It only stated we had agreed to a change in venue! Castro signed off on this document! All my long-distance calls to Castro were ignored. Castro signed off on the incomplete orders and ignored all of my efforts to reach him. We were maxed out on our credit cards, my daughter was in fear of her father coming to Austin to "drag her back to California" and I had used all vacation and unpaid time I could muster, to appear in court. I am shocked he is still practicing law. I am going to file a complaint with the Bar Assn and hope to God it's not too late. (It's a shame I must give even 1 star.) read more

I used his services to defend myself against false accusations of domestic violence which would ruin my reputation, result in a restraining order against me and further cause me to lose many of my constitutional rights. I was referred to Victor Castro by quite a few people throughout the years. I finally went to see him after my divorce had dragged on for almost 2 1/2 years with my prior attorney with no resolution. After 2 years of my ex not paying me child support or spousal support, with Mr. Castro's help I finally started receiving support payments. He also got me primary custody of my kids and helped me finalize my divorce within 8 months of having hired him. I feel I got a very fair and equal portion of our assets and have finally been able to move with my life. Mr. Castro always looked out for my best interest while being very reasonable and fair. I can only talk about my case. For me he is the worst attorney I have ever met. He was assigned by the court as independent counsel for my two minor children since there was so much conflict between me and the mother. These are two bi-racial kids who were 8 and 4 at the time. He did not like me because I called him on the things he was doing wrong ( it is my job to protect my children) Because of this he took the side of the mother and has on several occasions refused to even check on the children, instead taking the word of the mother that they were "fine" . Another time I asked him because of some things I heard to bring them in and to ask them himself instead of talking my word for it. She refused to bring them in because she knew she would be exposed and again he just took her word and decided to do nothing. I have not seen my children in years. I have been devastated by the actions of this attorney and now I am preparing to fight again in court for custody and visitation. This started because I did not agree with giving my son drugs that at the time he had bad reactions to strong dugs like Prozac at age 8. Regardless of his dislike for me it was and still is his job to not side with either of the parents and solely act in the interest of the children. He bases what he does on whether or not he likes you or has a good relationship with you and it should not be that way.
