The third time, with yet another different stylist, my son received THE ABSOLUTE WORST haircut I have ever seen in my life. And I believe it was intentional (even though the business denies it). When I called to make both appointments 2 and 3, I requested to not have the first stylist that cut his hair. Unfortunately, when I called to schedule the third appointment, the person who answered the phone was in fact stylist #1. So I had to very awkwardly tell her that I did not want to be scheduled with her. Another stylist had been recommended to me, so I asked if she was available. She said she wasn't there but she would have her call me. In the meantime, in order to ensure I had an appointment with someone, she scheduled me with the stylist that was for sure available on the day I wanted to bring my son in. I never received a phone call from the stylist I requested, so I called the day of my appointment to confirm the appointment with the available stylist. I was told that stylist went home for the day and they had no record of my appointment. The person answering the phone (who I believe was in fact the stylist I was scheduled with), said she would call me back in 20 minutes to let me know if I still had an appointment scheduled. She never called. I called back again and she said she would send a group text and that someone would be there to cut his hair. When I showed up at my scheduled time, the door was locked. After a few minutes of knocking, someone answered the door. I showed the stylist a picture of a previous hair cut my son has had, and told her I did not want a hard part in his hair. However, not only did she put a hard part in, but she messed it up. When she tried to correct it, she made it even worse and it ended up having a sharp downward curve at the back and was about 1/4" WIDE!! Not only that, but the top of his hair was 4-5 different lengths and you could see very obvious cut marks everywhere. She also left a long patch of hair at the front by his face where his side burn area starts, rather than trimming it off. She then threw a LOT of goopy hair gel in his hair and styled it so poorly that it was matted in some areas and spiked in other areas. I tried to call the next day to speak with a manager, but was told she's only in on Fridays. So, I waited a week and called back. The owner told me that she had already been made aware of the situation (which, prior to this phone call, I had NEVER complained or said anything about this experience to them, so there would have been NO REASON for them to fill her in on ANYTHING, unless they were expecting me to call and complain about the butchered hair cut)...and that she would offer to have it fixed for free. I told her that it was SO BAD that I couldn't let him walk around looking like that, and I had it fixed somewhere else. She offered to give me a free cut the next time I came in and I informed her that I had made 3 attempts to bring them my business and I won't be coming back. I offered a few times to send her pictures of my son's hair, but she told me it wouldn't do any good because she already offered me a free hair cut. I indicated multiple times that I felt like it was a revenge cut - based on the appointment reservation that disappeared, the unreturned phone calls, the locked door and the butchered haircut - but she cut me off each time, insisting that her stylists would never do that. I suggested that, if it wasn't intentional, she might want to evaluate the skill of that particular stylist because it was THAT BAD, and asked again if she was interested in seeing the pictures to understand how bad it was. She again said no. (And, she never asked me why I thought it was done intentionally. Most people, I believe, would be curious about the reasoning behind an accusation like that if they truly didn't believe it was true, rather than immediately getting defensive.) If I offended stylist #1, she should've told me. Or they should have put a note on my account that stylist #1 doesn't want to take my appointments. Or, they could've even told me that they no longer want my business at all. But instead, I believe they chose to butcher my child's hair, who was innocent in all of this, simply to prove a point and make sure I didn't come back. Honestly I would be ashamed to work for this business in any capacity if this is truly how they deal with customers. At NO POINT was I ever rude, condescending, demanding or insulting. I simply stated that I was not impressed with stylist #1's hair cut and asked not to be scheduled with her. This was a petty, immature and grossly unprofessional way to conduct business and my small child was an innocent target.

The only negative comment would be that I could hear one of her coworkers talking loudly in the other room, but otherwise very good experience.

She was taking her mother to get all this done before her mom's biopsy. My wife was so happy to be able to spend time with her mother before these procedures, as we're not sure how much more she can take. My wife called a SECOND TIME to CONFIRM the appointment, one week before the hair and nail appointments for her, and her Mom. THE DAY OF THEIR APPOINTMENT... The lady at the desk says that Mom has no appointment scheduled. My wife is floored! All this anticipation. All this planning. I feel so bad for them. A Day Away more than messed up. How does someone at a business take a reservation, and a week later confirm the reservation, and it's not really there?!? 100% Bad Business!! You had one job, Linda!!!!!!!!!!! A Day Away Salon & Spa is not the place you want to go!!! There is a chance that you will not have an appointment when you show up, even if you call later to reconfirm!!!!!! They did offer a $20.00 coupon...

The stylist, Kristen Eiden, convinced my daughter that she needed to have her hair colored (instead of highlighted) and proceeded to spend 4.5 hours to accomplish this. My daughter came in with a picture of how she wanted her hair to look (see attached pictures). Instead of blonde highlights, she came away looking like a brunette with some gray mixed in. Kristen convinced my daughter that her hair looked good and had her believing it until she got to look at it outside of the salons lighting. After seeing her hair, she began to cry because she strongly felt that she would be made fun of at school. My wife reached out to the salon that evening stating that we had significant concerns with the styling. The receptionist said she would reach out to Kristen and have her contact us. We didn't hear anything back, so my wife tried reaching out to Kristen via Facebook Messenger and received no response at all. My wife called the salon in the morning and asked to speak with a manager. She was told that the manager/owner wouldn't be contacting her back until the end of the week! My daughter literally refused to go to school, so we were left with no other option but to go to another salon to have her hair fixed. We finally received a call back from Kristen, 24 hours after the incident occurred, and she and the owner of A Day Away Salon refused to issue any kind of refund and took zero responsibility for the issue that had occurred. If you want absolutely terrible customer service and a botched hair job, this is the salon for you!
