Catalyst Performance is the best place in San Diego to get a great workout! Highly recommend working with Tyler as your personal trainer - he is knowledgeable, encouraging, positive and makes working out both challenging and fun. Tyler took the time to understand my fitness goals and how we could set out to achieve them. I have been coming to Catalyst for about a month now and already feel stronger, have more endurance and seeing improvements in my form and athletic ability. They are great at modifying workouts if needed - I have a previous lower back and knee issue and Tyler has been able to modify workouts so that I can safely work out. The gym is very clean, spacious and has all the latest and greatest equipment which means you'll always have diversity during your workout. Catalyst also has a great outdoor space if you prefer outdoor workouts as well. During COVID, they have been incredibly understanding and flexible with workout preferences for outdoor workouts and maintaining social distancing. I have been working out with a wide variety of fitness trainers at other gyms since 2007. I joined Catalyst only a few short months ago and selected Eva King as my fitness trainer. I have been nothing but impressed by her personal and professional commitment to my overall well being. This is my second time back to PT in the past year but these last two months has been at the Catalyst Pt. Loma location which I prefer because there's an outdoor area / turf (safer during Covid), but even more standout has been my physical therapist, Ryan C. Ryan fixed my issue on day one after a thorough assessment, he knew exactly what to do and how to guide me. I wanted to walk out of Catalyst, throw my hands in the air and scream "I'm healed!", but I was tentative. Ten months of back strains, pain, limited movement, hip pain and on day one Ryan corrected a misaligned SI joint and developed a great strength program. This has brought me back from the darkness of laying in my zero gravity chair, using a grabber tool to rotate out ice packs and heating pads and not being able to do any of the activities that I want to do. I'm a mid-40s deconditioned woman who was feeling pretty defeated by not being able to exercise or move without pain. This has all turned around and everything is looking positive! He helped me work through some pain and sticking points with my lifts that had been holding me back for about a year. I have been going to this center for a few weeks now and I love it! Their new Barnes location has great outdoor space which is huge right now with covid. They have everything you could ask for. My favorite is the 1/2 mile running trail they have so I can breathe in fresh air, not to mention they have a nice turf area, and awesome weight room. On my first day here I met with Alex (highly recommend him). We sat down and he really took the time to understand my needs and goals. Together we created a personalized workout plan to help me get there. He is extremely personable and keeps me accountable to make sure I stay on track. I have had physical therapy at their Mission Valley location and was very pleased with their approach to my rehab as well as the light, inviting, and welcoming environment. The staff's kindness, thoughtful decoration and uplifting slogans on the wall all undoubtedly led to me recuperating faster than I would in a traditional physical therapy setting. That being said, when I attended a fitness class at this new location at the Barnes Tennis Center I was equally impressed with the people and the setting. I'm a bit happier as it's closer to home, so I'm purchasing a package to go as my main workout/exercise...the trainer, equipment, and setting in a premier tennis center all make for an excellent experience. Eva, the athletic trainer, is fabulous! I had the pleasure of meeting her at a tennis tournament and she worked on my elbow for me. I've had years of physical therapy, massages, and so many other treatments for carpal tunnel and my shoulder but nobody has ever been able to get in there and work it out quite like she did. I live over an hour away but can't wait to sign up for a program to get more sessions with Eva because she is worth it! read more

I used to run marathons but I am no longer able to run due to knee problems. I have had to change my type of exercise. I love Chavva's classes! The Picklefit class is a great cardio workout along with strengthing, stretching, and core work. She gives low-impact alternatives, but keeps you working hard!! I had my first post-COVID workout session with my trainer, Pedro and definitely recommend this location. The outdoor turf area was excellent for stretches and the indoor area has a ton of weights for a few people at a time. Pedro got me back on my routine of stretches, squats and back exercises. I also took advantage of warming up by walking around the 1/2 mile trail. Another added benefit is the abundant free parking. read more

My daughter is a competitive tennis player and we have been looking for a place that could assess her fitness level and what she can improve on to help her tennis game. This place is it! It's more than just personal training, it's training that is specific to helping her tennis game. They have all the latest equipment and the facility is very clean and organized. Took Chavva's Picklefit class and it was just the right combination of cardio, strength, stretching and core work and was appropriate for a wide range of ages.
