Save yourself time and don't move here. I just moved out of a one bedroom due to the increase in rent. They wanted me to pay over $1000 a month for a 485 sq ft apartment. If you look at other apartment complexes in the area, you get TWO times the space for that price, and SO many more amenities. I subleased my apartment and they said I was required to move out 2 weeks before the person who I subleased to moved in, so they could clean. I asked them if my last month would be discounted due to them making me leave with two weeks left in the month, and I was told no I had to pay the full month, AND the full double occupancy fee, on top of 75% of one months lease as a "sublet fee". They did do upgrades, but they were poorly done. They didn't measure anything, so when they put the new refrigerator in, I was unable to open my microwave door all the way. I think their pricing is RIDICULOUS for what you get here. They tried to rebrand and make their apartments seem nicer than what they are. By changing the name of the apartment complex, they were able to clear their reviews and 1 star they originally had. I do NOT recommend living here. read more

If you're looking for a place to live within walking distance to campus and don't really care about the quality of unit you might get, then this apartment complex is a considerable option. The office staff was always friendly and welcoming whenever my roommates and I would call or go to the office. Maintenance staff typically responded to maintenance requests within 48 hours. Personally, I think the price of rent here was ridiculously expensive, considering that they're around the same price as other apartment complexes in the area that are newer and in better condition. My friends and I lived here our sophomore year of college and it was early on after we moved in that we decided we wouldn't renew the lease. The reasoning behind our decision was because of the issues we had while living here. First, our A/C went out around 2-3 months after we moved in, the filter and the area around the filter was absolutely disgusting and covered with a thick build up of fur, dust, dirt, etc. A couple months after that, our water heater went out completely and was replaced. A reoccurring issue my roommates and I had were several spots where the carpet was unraveling, which made vacuuming almost impossible because the loose strings would get caught anytime we would clean. Lastly, my car was hit in the Catamount Peak parking lot around March. I went to the front office to let them know, asked them if they could look at the camera footage and see if they could give me any info about who might've done it so I could file a police report since they didn't leave a note. The office staff claimed they looked at the footage and explained because of the angle of the cameras, they couldn't tell who did it. I encourage anyone who is considering living here to read the reviews before making a decision, but I will never recommend this apartment complex to anyone. UPDATE: Please do not sign a lease here. They are scamming college students and charged me and my roommates for damages that were there when we moved in. Save yourself the time and money. read more

OMG- absolutely criminal how they run the office. I cant beleive they have gotten away with this cartel racket for as long as they have. Who ever runs that office needs to do some jail time. The contracts they have these young kids sign in no way holds them bound. The apartments are substandard boxes with leaky faucets and they are over charged for utilities with no way to verify what they are told to pay. Im going to file charges on this company for criminal intent to deceive and any other charges that will expose them for their long standing ruin of all other tenants also taken advantage of. DO NOT RENT!!! WARNING - YOU WILL BE SCAMMED. I do not say this lightly. My child lived here and everything was fine - mostly. However, when it is time to leave watch out! They charged $1000.00 to the account on file and gave three separate reasons - 1 - It was a mistake and will be corrected immediately. 2 -That I had made the payment and they did not know why. (This one is my favorite.) and 3 - This is just the way they do business. This all happened in Jan. I was promised a refund in 30 to 90 days. Well, it is May 4 and still no refund. Luckily, I can still eat and pay my bills without this money. However, if you are a struggling college student or recent graduate, can you live without $1000.00??? I emailed them after the 90 days asking for information and I have not heard back. Guess I get to make a fun phone call. Scam!! too much to type- but lived here for 2 years and had black mold growing in the washer/dryer room of apartment and out of the air vents, still isn't cleared all the way out. Many health concerns and doctor visits later, my lease is up and I am moved out. Thank goodness. Also have been overcharged on electric too many times to count- with no refunds after finding out that the electric bill was a faulty part of the "systems fan" on their end. None of the management will talk to you on the phone here, we have only been able to talk to their college student employees and that didn't get us anywhere. I think it's just overpriced for what you may have to go through. That being said, I am thankful to have had a roof over my head for the past 2 years. If you plan to live here I would just be cautious of the mold for that was my biggest concern. read more

They made us sleep on the floor! In late December, my partner and I bought a new bed because it was difficult for 2 grown adults to share the full-size bed that is provided by the complex. Unlike most other apartment complexes in the area, Catamount Peaks was not at all accommodating. They refused to remove our old bed, claiming that the lease said we are responsible for storing the bed on our on. My partner and I looked through the lease and found no such stipulation. When we asked for them to point it out to us in the lease for clarification, they simply ignored our question. My partner even went as far as getting a doctors note because sleeping on they provided bed gave him back problems and made it hard for him to sleep at night. They basically ignored the note, and told us to store the old bed ourselves. Eventually the apartment complex caved after upper-management got involved, and removed the bed. This was an exhausting process and cause more stress for everyone than needed. It just showed how unwilling the office was to help out their residents. In late January, my partner was offered a new job out of state, so we began preparing to move. We moved most everything in our apartment to our new home a week before we officially moved, including our new bed. We emailed the office manager a week in advanced and asked them to please bring back our old bed so we have something to sleep on for our last week in town. And then we called a few days later to confirm they would bring it back. And again they day before we were moving our stuff over, while we were moving, and again on our way back to Cullowhee. Each time we got the same excuse that maintenance was too busy to bring our bed back. When we called on a Satuday we were told maintenance will try and move it back the following day. Sunday rolled around and we were driving home when we get a call from the front office telling us maintenance doesn't even work on Sundays! The office is to blame, and regardless if they meant it this way or not, we feel like they have intentionally been holding out on bring back our bed (which they know we've needed for a week) in order to retaliate against us for reaching out to the management company for the beds initial removal. The emergency maintenance manager even said he could not bring it back because he was not authorized by the leasing office to have his staff work and bring in the bed because it was a non-emergency. I understand it's not a flood, or our AC unit catching on fire (which has also happened to us before) but it feels very intentional when Stirling, the office manger, knew we would be back and have to sleep on the floor if the bed wasn't brought back. It feels personal. This is no way to treat your residents, especially when we're paying about $950 for rent and electric every month for a tiny 485 square-foot hone bedroom apartment, and they should feel ashamed for making their residents sleep on the floor. Do not live here unless you want to be treated like dirt you'll find on your carpet when you move in. read more

My entire experience from the beginning was misleading and dishonest. I was quoted 3 different deposit prices. I was also told that I did not qualify for the apartment after submitting financial aid information for summer 2020 and fall/spring 2020-2021. Once I expressed my lack of interest in paying a $949 deposit + the first month's rent of $850, I was told that I was locked in to my lease and could either pay the lease or sublease for $1,000. Not to mention, the office staff misrepresented the lease agreement as an application that needed to be approved in order to sign the lease. The staff was also disrespectful and threatening. The property manager threatened to damage my credit for years to come if I did not pay for the lease. Please do your research before even looking at their website. This place scares the hell out of me. My daughter goes to WCU and was looking for an off campus apartment. They require a parent to guarantee the lease. I had to fill out their credit application but there was no copy of the lease. I asked for a copy, of the lease, and I was sent a copy of the guarantee. I asked for a copy of the lease again and I was sent the terms and conditions of their website. I asked for a copy again. I was then sent a 43 page copy of a lease that told me to take it to my lawyer for review. I did. He told me not to sign it under any circumstances. It's a totally one sided, unfair lease, that no one has any business agreeing to. (Especially 19 year old that don't know any better) That's probably why they don't want you to see it before you decide. Stay away from this place until they can come up with a reasonable 2-3 page lease that everyone can understand without needing a lawyer. read more

Our daughter lived here for one year. It is NOT a safe environment. Cars are vandalized frequently. Workers and maintenance people appear without the required 24 hour notice. The main entrance to our daughter's apartment was left unlocked each day for approximately 10 days while the ceiling was torn out. When we called the office to complain, we were told that all apartments being worked on were left unlocked so workers could come and go as necessary. Really??? At 7pm at night?? All weekend?? In addition to being totally careless about safety, staff are rude. Going to the owner, Kinney Realty in Raleigh, also produces no results. I could go on and on....but the bottom line is DO NOT LET YOUR COLLEGE STUDENT LIVE HERE if you care about their safety. read more

The view from my single bedroom apartment was amazing and the unit I had was very nice and pleasant the only complaints that I have is the maintenance of the property and probably enforcing the charges for all the urination and fecal matter all over where I lived. I was so tired and sick of the fowl odors and pet owners not picking up after their damn pets like responsible adults do! Be aware of bad business practice from Catamount Peak Apartments: they continue to accept waiting list, even though there's no room available, that way they will charge you for $125 which they call it application fee of $100 plus $25 for checking your credit. There's no mention over the phone or over emails that you won't be reimbursed for $100, yet when you request to be removed from waiting list they come back saying it's not refundable. Even when one specifically spoke with their office and asked if $100 was refundable and was told yes. Net/net: Catamount Peaks takes advantage of desperate parent who are looking for a room for their kid. Extremely bad service, nothing is explained to you when you call them they rely on "sections" of what you did online document sign. This business practice should be against the law!!! I don't have enough words to say how bad Catamount Peaks Apartments services is. Don't know about living there, but the way they deal with prospect tenants is terrible! read more

I moved in two years ago, and the place was pretty rough. My apartment wasn't clean and the dryer was broken when I came to move in. That said, it's been a huge turnaround this past year. I moved out of my 4 bedroom apartment and into a 1 bedroom apartment at the beginning of this year, and my new apartment was perfect and ready for me! The other review talks about vandalism and maintenance issues. I've never seen a vandalized car here, and although they were spot on with maintenance a while ago, the new guys are awesome! I recommend this place to my friends at WCU. It's close to campus and a fun place to live. read more

Awful experience from start to finish. My husband and I moved into a filthy apartment, it had not been cleaned or painted from the previous tenant. We had billing issues almost every month. There is no such thing as maintenance. Dogs run wild and poop everywhere. We received random bills and fines. Management changes about every six months so no one knows what they are doing on talking about. Good luck trying to get any service from the office or even corporate. It is just bad, bad bad. They used to be the only game in town, but now there are plenty of options. I would never recommend this place, even if you have to pay more, go elsewhere! read more

Nice apartments, really great deal for the price. My one bedroom apartment has all utilities included and is only 690 month. Studios are cheaper at some other places, but I really like having a whole apartment and not just an off campus dorm room! read more
