In late May, A Taste of Excellence catered our wedding rehearsal dinner at the home of my husband's…read moreparents. In the time leading up to the wedding, we had a relatively short lead time on planning the rehearsal, as our previous venue actually put us out of budget. ToE actually came recommended by our planner, and with just three months of planning, we were able to put together a rehearsal dinner that came in at around a third of the cost of the original rehearsal dinner. We opted for the pig roast option (not the one that's served on the back of a fire truck, as one cannot get a fire truck up three stories), which also offered chicken and a choice of three sides. The menu selection process was rather easy, and our contact Stephanie made it very easy to make changes and customize our event to the best of her ability. Due to time and geographical constraints (we were planing a wedding in Cleveland while living in New York), we were unable to schedule a tasting, but trusted that the food would be delicious. We also opted for bar service where we would provide the liquor and they would provide the mixers and garnishes. This turned out to be a good cost-cutting measure, since it allowed us to use smaller amounts of high-quality liquor for a 50-person event. The day of the event, the staff arrived slightly late, but was highly efficient in moving equipment onto the site and quickly throwing up chairs, tables, catering stations and the bar. However, some freakish Cleveland weather (we were ready for rain, but not for hurricane-speed winds that were strong enough to overturn chairs) forced us inside, our catering staff was very quick about moving everything inside to our improvised indoor backup location, with little to no disruption to the event. By the time we had finished the rehearsal and begun welcoming guests, no one would have guessed that the dinner had to be relocated. As for the food and drink itself, it was delicious. A North Carolina-based guest commented that the roasted pig was on the level of Southern cooking, and another guest said that it was the best barbecued chicken she's ever had. The bartender kept a steady supply of drinks going, and we only had to re-up once, when the bourbon turned out to be more popular than anticipated. By the end of the night, we had just enough food left over to feed the late arrivals at our after-party, and the beer was all gone, as if meted out perfectly. It's a weird feeling having "just enough" so that our fridge wasn't overflowing with leftovers, we're not complaining. Just as quickly as they set up, the staff quietly and quickly broke down equipment as the party was winding down, to the point where I had to actually pay attention as they were leaving so I could thank and tip the shift captain. Though we can't speak to the quality of larger events or weddings, we can say with confidence that ToE does a great job with a rehearsal dinner, and will work with you if you're clear about your budget.

I explained to them I didn't want any food passed and I wanted the food out the entire party, no appetizer hour. They started by putting out appetizers. I asked them to please put all food out as it was a grad party and people come and go. The food was put out 30 minutes late. While I was talking they began putting the food away over an hour early. Someone approached me and asked why the food was gone. When I realized this I asked them why they had taken everything down so early. They told me they always tear down early. I had 3 families show up one hour before the party ended and there was no food!!! I was quit embarrassing. The staff scrambled and put some more food out. At this point the entire presentation had been tore down and a mosh mash of food was put back out. Not what I paid for! It was extremely disappointing especially for what we paid. They cut my party short 25%. They also asked me what to do with the cake. I told them to throw away the cut cake and keep the uncut. They did the exact opposite and threw out a huge cake. I emailed the person that was in charge of my event, she left our event early. I let her know how disappointed I was at the early tear down etc. she returned my call leaving a message that stated if I wanted to talk further to call her back. No apology nothing. I chose not to follow up as I could see she was not interested. I should have listened to some of the other complaints and not booked this company

Sure you have to reheat the food at home, but that doesn't bother me at all. I really like that since the food is in a deli case I can see what it looks like before ordering and I can mix and match what I want. Entrees are roughly $7-$10 and you can add two sides for $3.50 more. I think this is very affordable, especially considering the portion sizes are very filling. You can even add a dessert like chocolate cake or a mini apple crumb pie for $3.50. Staff is pleasant and you might even get surprised with a little treat for free. They have special meals for holidays and I recently ordered a Mother's Day one which came with a cute little cookie bouquet! I would 100% recommend.

The event we attended was a beach barbecue at Edgewater Beach. The beautifully set table right next to the water was perfection! The food and wine were very good overall (barbecue isn't my favorite in general). And the highlight of this experience was the phenomenal service! The event started with passed apps, a bar with a signature cocktail among other selections, and live music. Once seated for the meal at a very large table next to other attendees, the food, wine and music didn't stop! I enjoyed the concept of being seated near others who we didn't know and had enjoyable conversation. I'm eager to attend another one of their events!

She's is the consummate professional; not only not loosing her cool when we shifted from 80 guests to 140 guests, but executing the changes with style, grace and efficiency. She is quick to see one's vision and is eager for the "unusual." Her team worked in rather challenging conditions and never missed a beat. All of our guests loved the food, her servers were competent and eager to please and her attention to detail (and there were oodles of details!) was fabulous. She is a delight to work with! I highly recommend Spice and Kelcie.
