A little gas station like establishment with seems to be a family owned business and very popular. A lot of chitter chatter amongst the employees with instead of focusing on the waiting customers. Being my first time there, I felt it was a bit unorganized as to where do you place and pay for the order. Crab cakes were recommended but when I saw the freezer cases of premade crab cakes, my instinct told me to forego. But I had to try it and it was a mashed mushy mess. Should've went with my instincts. My mom called it sausage patties. The only good thing was the cat fish. Although it was a bit undercooked for my preference, it was flavorful and crispy. People were mainly ordering steamed crabs so maybe that is a sign. Not sure if I'll return. read more

Catfish Kelly's is a great experience. They sell products that you can purchase and they also have a small takeout type restaurant. I have not found crabs any other place, including the wharf that you can get as inexpensively as you can from catfish Kelly's. Additionally, their food is great And I often drive a distance to go and get their food. You will always find people coming and going out of the store, but the service is wonderful and you get your food rather quickly. read more

I actually purchased these from the KG location by accident didn't realize they had more than one as I'm regularly at the Fredericksburg location. But my favorite place for seafood in this area. For years Catfish Kelly's was my favorite place to go for crabs in the FXBG area. There was value and a quality product. Over the past three years, I've had worse and worse experiences each summer. Nowadays, If you're not White Oak Boy you're not cool enough to be acknowledged when walking in. Every time I've ordered ahead, my order magically got given to another customer and I end up waiting another 20-30 min for a new order to be fulfilled. Is the point of ordering ahead just to plan numbers for the day or to actually have the items ordered ready for the customer? Please let us know as it might be helpful. On the other end of my experiences, I've never called to order and actually been greeted like a wanted customer. Whomever answers the phone during the mornings seems bothered to have to take customer orders. Never happy, never appreciative of the business. Additionally, the cashier's are always miserable and are understandbly tired of delays and customers breathing down their backs for order updates. They are the ones you need to invest in training the most. They're the last impression you give before you've received someone's hard earned money in exchange for your product. Today, I again I experienced a misplaced order and this go around received a simple "sorry" 35 minutes after waiting to have it remade. I know crab vary on the daily but my #1s felt like full #2s and my #2s were super light. Crapshoot, I know. Unfortunately, my shrimp today tasted like they were cooked in Rappahannock river water and it didn't help my experience feel any better. Be a seafood joint/tackle supply all you want, but please use this critism objectively to improve your customer service and overall experiences. I'd love to see you all with much continued success as a once loyal customer but for now, I think I'll be seeking out a new crab supplier. read more

Stopped here while visiting downtown Fredericksburg. Had a craving for seafood platter. Food- Catfish/Butterfly shrimp platter. Sides: Potato salad, French fries Taste- just okay. I like good seafood with little breaded. The butterfly shrimp didn't give the impression it's made from scratch. Did purchase seasoning for future cooking Service- interaction was limited. Finally had a chance to check this place out and this will be the first and last visit. The lady that took my order was nice. But upon entering she was bagging worm bait for fishing in the kitchen. Umm okay. I proceed to order anyway. I ordered the seafood platter which consist of 3 protein and two sides for $20.95. I was expecting fresh seafood but it was all frozen and bland. I was really disappointed. I had driven by this many times driving up and down route 301 so the day I decided to stop I had asked several people what they thought of it and no one had been there before well. I was shocked the quantity of food was good For the oysters. I don't know what type of crabcake they served but to me it didn't have any crabcake in it the oysters were overcooked. Just left Catfish Kelly's Country Store to return crabs purchased yesterday, because of how disgusting they were. They told me they had to see the crabs in order to replace them. The lady we spoke with left before we got there. After explaining the situation to two gentlemen nothing was solved. The way they handle business is atrocious. Do not do business with them unless you plan on wasting your money, receiving un-servable food, and terrible customer service. Not once did they apologize and the crabs they were supposed to replace they said they were no longer going to replace them. The only bait and tackle shop around town and it's really slim pickings. They do cater to the local anglers which is great. Need more tackle choices. i was starving hungry so i stopped at a little country store i had passed a hundred times. I met micheal, the owner's son. He and his partner Tre are the nicest young country gentlemen you would ever hope to meet. After jawing i asked for their signature lunch special. it was a crab cake sandwich cooked to perfection. it was so good i didn't taste the bread. DO NOT call early and place an order, definitely don't call and pay over the phone before picking them up. Actually... DO NOT go there at all. Long comment... Catfish Kelly's use to be our go to for crabs. My husband would also buy chicken feed from them. This summer we've gone to them twice. Earlier in the year (around Father's Day) we bought a bushel of crabs, which were decent, nothing to complain about. This past weekend I called on Sunday morning to place an order for a half bushel of #1s, I give the lady my name and I'm assuming she wrote down my order. I call back about an hour later to pay for them over the phone bc I wouldn't be able to pick them up, but I informed the woman my brother would. She said I didn't need to give her his name he just needed to say my name when he picked them up. Keep in mind I've given this woman my name and order twice by now. The half bushel of #1s were $120... I was charged $131 (after taxes*). My brother gets there around 1:30 (the time I told them that we'd be picking up). The folks at the register tells him they don't have my order, he calls me, I call them back (call #3), I give the lady my name and order AGAIN. She tells me they have my order, and they'll be done in 15mins. I let my brother know, they'll be ready in 15. He asked me if I got #1s and I told him, yes I did and that's what I paid for. He tells me a guy came out the back and says they are out of #1s. I call for the 4th time now and told the lady what my brother said, she tells me they had enough #1s to fill my order. Eventually they bring the crabs out to my brother... only for him to call me back to say the crabs aren't #1s and they didn't even give us a full half bushel. At this point I'm over it. I talk to catfish kellys again (now I'm thinking this may be call #5 or 6). The woman told me to have my brother bring the crabs back and they'll give me a refund. I'm cool with that. He gets to the cashier and at this point he's dealing with a man. The dude tells my brother, alright I'm going to refund you $126 and my brother calls me and says didn't they charge you $131, I said yes they did. He tells me that this man is only going to refund $126. Apparently the woman over the phone over charged me. The guys seemed irritated and only refunded my card $126 but gave my brother a 5 dollar bill to make up the difference. That wasn't an issue bc I was still "refunded" the whole $131. My brother gets to my house and gives me the receipt and I see on the receipt it says SALE. I check my account and sure enough, they didn't refund me my money. They charged me $126 instead. ‍‍‍‍ I call them AGAIN for the umpteenth time. This time I talk to the guy who "attempted" to refund me my money. We get things straight and he says alright, I'm going to refund you the $131 PLUS $126 that we charged you. I gave your brother $5 so I'm not including that. I said alright, that's cool. I also went on to complain about my experience and how they were my go-to and my disappointment blah blah blah, he didn't seem interested (which I'm sure he couldn't care any less). Which was fine with me, I just know me and my family won't be going back. I check my bank account on Wednesday to make sure I have been completely refunded $257 (131+126=257). Lo and behold... I was only refunded $252. ‍ WTF! you know what, I'm not even mad. I took up enough of y'all's time, whoever read through my review. I just know I WILL NOT be going back to Catfish Kelly's, for crabs, chicken feed, or anything else. Do better, y'all. read more

First time visiting this spot. The customer service was great. The crabs, crab legs & shrimp was outstanding & the prices were phenomenal. Definitely worth the drive! I don't live near them (I'm in Fairfax) but will be returning next year at the start of crab season and will more than likely be a weekly customer! read more

They also sell to go meals; breakfast, lunch, and of course seafood. (Fish, shrimp, oysters, and clam strips) We haven't tried their to go meals. Was a backup to Roy's in KG when their cooker decided to take a weekend off! (Can never hold that against a place). They admitted up front that what they had was pretty "light". And they were correct. But the quantity and quality of what they did have was outstanding and the JO's was spot on. You won't go wrong, call ahead if you can to reserve some meatier ones, but they are straight with what they have and it is an outstanding price, with coupled with their cook and seasoning is an outstanding value! read more

Adorable little Country Store located right off the highway. From the outside the place may seem to be small, but the inside is quite the opposite. It's absolutely an older building, but it's such a change of scenery to the regular convenience stores. Very calm manor, while everyone knows everybody. The owners are just as nice as could be, and helpful with directions as well. This is the perfect "day on the road" store! They serve all kinds of food, along with many cold drinks. Seems like a nice mom and pop place, and the cook was very personable. But of the three employees working there at the time of my visit, only one was wearing a mask, and the employee preparing food was only wearing the mask over their mouth and not their nose. Their seafood is generally fine. As is the price and service. The problem is they are not following any Covid safety measures at all as far as I could tell the last time I was in there. No masks, so social distancing, no noticeable extra cleaning. When I posted a question about it to them they deleted it and never answered me either. I won't go here again. read more

Went to get crabs lady told me that crabs would be ready after 2 pm. I come back at 2 and there all sold out and she says did you put a order in? Really people you led me to believe that you had plenty of crabs coming up and never mentioned placing a order. The looks I got and the feeling of I'm being a bother to them was awkward to say the least I guess my neck wasn't red enough. Very unprofessional staff.
