I have been going to this office for a little over two years. The care is par - nothing spectacular but not bad either. My opinion of the office and Dr. Marshall changed recently. In November I decided to have a procedure done. The procedure went well and I am happy with the result. My disappointment began after. I was told the procedure was 100% covered by my insurance my both Dr. Marshall and my insurance, so no problem right? Wrong! Dr. Marshall asked me to pay for the procedure out of pocket since "occasionally" it can take a "couple of months" for the insurance to pay the claim. So I paid the $534 thinking I would be reimbursed by the office in a timely manner. It has now been 7 months and I have checked in with my insurance and Dr. office a few times. Insurance has tried to get necessary paper work from the office several times and they have failed to comply. Why do I feel like a got ripped off? I have learned my lesson and I hope this post helps you. DO NOT pay out of pocket for procedures/visits/extra that are fully covered by your insurance. read more

Dr. Catharine Marshall claims to be a specialist, but all she does is refer you to others that actually perform the job and the people she refer you to are completely inadequate. She throws out theories without following up, she is never prepared when she speaks with you, and she is hardly ever in the office but on vacation somewhere. She referred me to a Dr. Pearce at Scripps Hospital to perform a standard HSG test and her office did not bother to send the paperwork on me to Dr. Pearce before beginning the procedure. Dr. Marshall did not even bother to check my paperwork because afterwards she told me I should have had a hormone test and a labtest done before the HSG procedure. When Dr. Pearce was unable to perform the test, after poking me for an hour, Dr. Marshall called me back the next day to discuss. She said I should have had labwork done before the procedure and started rambling about my previous hysterectomy. I haven't even had a hysterectomy. Why would I do the HSG test if I had a hysterectomy. I had a myomectomy. She is sadly not prepared when she speaks with you, nor does she seem to take an interest in your case. Her office staff are completely incompetent. You have to double check their work all the time. If they say they are going to call in a prescription, you have to make sure they do, not one time, but two to three times before they actually do it. After my myomectomy, they failed to call in my pain relievers!! Unacceptable. They also have no idea on how to work with insurance companies so you have to be prepared to do the job yourself. I have no trust in Dr. Catharine Marshall and would not recommend her to anyone. She should be sued for negligence. read more

Ok Folks. Im here to break it down. :) This woman is more than I can even write in words. I have never in my 35 years had a Dr. go so far above and beyond like this woman and Ashley did. I came into her office with a big problem, she listened and formulated a plan. A good plan. However, my insurance felt they new better than an actual DOCTOR!! I was denied my surgery. I was left in ever increasing pain. I couldn't even work. Dr Marshall and Ashley worked their butts off for my appeal. E mailing each other on off hours to help me. ME! Meanwhile, Ashley is dealing with my disability insurance and other crap from my employer all the while I'm calling her daily for updates all with a smile in her voice. My appeal was denied. Again, yay insurance!! Did this stop them?? Hell NO!! They kicked it in to high gear! I feel bad for her poor husband! No one tells this woman "NO!" All their hard work paid off. I had my surgery 4 and a half weeks ago. My entire life has changed. My pain level went from an 8 to a big fat zero with in days of my surgery!!! Her name is still something that is heard in my home daily. My kids are happy to have Mom back...My husband is happy to have his wife back. Im happy to have my life back and it is all because of this amazing woman and her staff. My gratitude knows no bounds. If I had millions of dollars I'd give her anything she wanted...unfortunately, all i could give is a big hug and cupcakes. read more

I was referred to Dr. Marshall by my primary care physician when my partner and I decided to try and conceive. My first appointment was fine, I felt comfortable enough with her and got an annual exam and some advice on lifestyle changes to start pre-conception. When I was actually pregnant, the trouble began. My second appointment was just to confirm my pregnancy, which is my first, and it went well enough but afterwards I realized she hadn't asked me if I had any questions. I then started to bleed a bit, which really got me worried and when I called to ask what I should do she had her staff call me back with a message of "oh don't worry, its common after an ultrasound". Oh, ok. Fast forward a few weeks I went in for another ultrasound as the first appointment of the day. I sat in the waiting room for 30 mins before she actually arrived in the office, and by then the next appointment person was clearly also waiting. I was rushed into the ultrasound room where she proceeded to drop terms like "threatened miscarriage" and "possible genetic abnormalities" like it was no big deal. After rushing me out (no "any questions" and let me tell you, I had a few...stuff like "can I eat tums?" and other things your baby doc should cover at *some* point) she told me to come back in two weeks...which, as it turned out, was was right in the middle of her three week summer vacation. Uh.... Anyways my fourth visit was better, she seemed less distracted and everything about the baby checked out a-ok. Then she referred me on to a new doctor - as it turns out, she doesn't do pre-natal care and deliveries anymore...I suppose I was supposed to figure that out myself but I do wish she'd just told me up front. At this point I was starting to wonder if I was just being a demanding pain in the butt or something. I now know that is not the case - the doctor I have now provided me with a mountain of information (including a safe medicines list) in my first visit, answered all of my questions before I even asked them, and very carefully addressed any remaining loose end concerns I had. Perhaps Dr. Marshall is a great pediatrician, but my experience with her ob/gyn skills leave much to be desired, and I wouldn't dream of going back for any reason, nor would recommend her to anyone. On a somewhat related note, her ditzy receptionist overcharged me on co-pays and would have kept doing it if I hadn't brought in a printout of my insurance summary. read more

I am so happy I was refereed to Dr. Catharine Marshall from my primary doctor! This was hands down the best obgyn experience I have ever had. Catharine was so knowledgeable and answered all my questions thoroughly. I always dread doing these type of check ups but she was extremely kind and made me feel so comfortable and was so quick. I have shopped so many gynocologists- Dr. Catherine Marshall is amazing. They got me in for my apt 20 mins early- on my first visit ever!! (new patient visit). My old office I waited anywhere from 30mins to 1 1/2 hours. Receptionists when above and beyond checking my insurance for me- and Dr. Marshall is sweet, energetic, positive, etc. I whole hearted.y recommend her to people who shop gyno's for the one who is down to earth- she is! read more

Went to Dr. Marshall for the first time in La Jolla. Her medical staff is very nice and efficient. I didn't even wait 5 minutes after turning in my paperwork to get called back. She was prompt and friendly. She gave me some good information regarding having another baby and overall the office visit was quick and pleasant. She is personable and has good bedside manner. I was searching for a doctor who dealt with large uterine fibroids. Previous OB/GYNs had all suggested I go with a hysterectomy but I wanted more options. Dr. Marshall used a minimally invasive surgery to remove my large fibroid and that was years ago! She is amazing, she takes the time to walk me through everything, sees me on short notice when my "girl parts" need help. I also can't say enough kind words about her assistant - Ashley, she is so kind and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Marshall and her staff. read more

I thought Dr. Marshall was a very nice lady. But I went in for Ovarian cysts since I had 4 that ruptured. I was in the ER when the first one had already Ruptured. I was at another Dr. before I wanted to get opinions from OB/GYNS. She saw no cysts and told me everything what was going on. She said I had an infection so she had me take 4 antibiotics. Apparently That was what is used for an STD.... 1. At the ER they would have told me if I had one, 2. The other OB/GYN would have told me. 3. My primary dr. would have told me. When I asked what this was for she never told me what the antibiotics were for. She never said it was for an STD. In fact I didn't even have an infection. I had 4 ruptured cysts I had scar tissue and was sensitive to having ultrasounds and everything going on. It just makes me mad that she would give me medicine like that when I also didn't have the blood work done. I thought that was careless and can be so dangerous. Next time she should definitely make sure when someone needs to have 4 antibiotics all once. Also she kept trying to change my birth control pills... I was there for Ovarian Cysts not birth control. I had to tell 5 times that I didn't want to switch and she gave me a prescription for another kind. All in all I would never go back to her again and would NEVER recommend her. read more

Dr. Marshall and her staff are great! They are friendly, personable, and have always treated me with respect. From the moment I step into the office, I am greeted with smiles and a simple hello. The waiting period to see Dr. Marshall is not very long and once I enter the patient's room, the staff informs me that the doctor will be in soon. Sure enough, she is! Dr. Marshall does not make you feel like a "number being called up" for the next person in line. In my experience with her, she takes her time and even takes a moment to see how I'm doing before we address the reason why I had made an appointment. She has a gentle personality and calmly informs me of anything I need to know. She is very knowledgeable and encourages her patients to ask questions about their health issues. Going to an OB/GYN appointment is not necessarily the place I enjoy going to, but for me, I want to make sure I feel comfortable and safe, and Dr. Marshall makes the appointment as comfortable and safe as possible.
