It's inconvenient & you absolutely cannot see the screen or the stage in general. There are no TV's angled towards the area for those who unfortunately have to sit up there. The way there's no aisle to go from the left side to the right side also poses an annoyance because you then have a go down 4 flights of stairs and walk to the other side of the sanctuary and back up 4 flights to grab the balcony seat on the other end. (All of this if you don't like saying "excuse me, sorry" to 15+ people) please make the overflow accommodations more accommodating, please. & before anyone responds to my message - yes, I was on time today to the 11:15am it was just a crowded Sunday

They did not accept me and told me that they thought I did not have a close enough relationship with Christ. I only met with them for les than 15 minutes and they made that judgement. Not only did they make that judgement they had the audacity to tell me, a young woman in her early 20s, that she doesn't have a strong relationship with God. Absolutely horrible and unacceptable. I have tried to attend other campuses since but simply cannot attend a church that was so okay with what they did and never tried to apologize or retract what they said. The person who informed me of the decision and judgement added me on Facebook a year or so after and never did anything outside of that. I thought that was odd and a passive way to be sorry. I am not sure how they decide who serves on the worship team or as leaders, but it is not okay. The church seems very superficial and I attended it for years. This is just my story with TPCC, so take it as you wish. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Id say it's the perfect size, not a mission church size, but certainly not massive cathedral size. It's just right! I loved the wooden architecture, I'm not sure if it's original but I loved looking at it, I found myself looking up a lot during mass. The church also has a beautiful fresco of Mary and saint Bernadette. I enjoyed the priest as well, I thought he was a great speaker, he kept it relevant and didn't drag things out which I think some priests have a habit of doing, I might even go back and check out a regular mass! Lots of seating options, kneelers have padding which is always a plus! (You get this if you are catholic) ps they have gluten free communion!

While I've been on my journey for a while and have been visiting one church semi-regularly, I remain intrigued by Catholicism and decided to visit a new parish. St. Pius is located on Indy's Northeastside near 71st & Keystone in a mostly residential area. The parish includes an elementary school within its community and is set well enough off the road that you really kind of have to look for it a bit before you realize it's there. Part of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, St. Pius is pastored by Father James Farrell with Father David Bunyar as associate pastor. With over 1600 families belonging to the parish, St. Pius has grown quite a bit in its 60 years of existence. St. Pius can be accessed via two different entrances off of East 71st Street, though if you need the accessible parking in the center lot you're best pulling in off of what I believe is actually Sarto Drive. The parking lot is a tad confusing and gets quite busy after a Mass is held, plus the parking lot is one way where the accessible parking is and you can't really access it easily from what looked like the main entrance. As seems to be true of most Catholic parishes, attempts have been made to make the church accessible including accessible parking with curb cuts (at least 3), at least one automatic door closest to the accessible parking, and audio devices to help those with hearing impairments. I could not tell if the altar area was accessible - it wasn't from the front, but it may have been from the back. This is pretty common in Catholic churches, though I have seen some that haven't made this area accessible. The sanctuary reminded me of St. Matthew's - somewhat contemporary with wooden pews and the expected Catholic features. A multi-person worship band led mostly traditional hymns off to the side led a female singer who also played guitar. I realized a little too late that one entrance had the bulletins, while the entrance I used did not. As someone who is inexperienced with Catholicism, this meant I spent most of the Mass rather confused. About halfway through, however, they did start announcing the hymns. There was a guest speaker from a Grenada-based mission - I seem to have a knack for visiting Catholic churches when they have guest speakers. He was quite personable, though the message itself didn't give me a strong feel for the parish. As is usual for Catholic churches, Communion is done toward the end of the Mass and is not open to those outside the Catholic faith. I appreciated that one of the ushers asked if I wanted Communion brought to me, though I obviously respectfully declined. There's a "passing of the peace" type moment during the service, which practically guarantees that as a stranger your presence will at least be acknowledged. I have some friends who appreciate you can go into a Catholic church and just blend in and be left alone, while I've had others bothered by the fact that you could easily attend week after week without ever really encountering people. As a person in a wheelchair, I tend to at least get acknowledged. I would say that St. Pius was on the low end of actual hospitality, though. This was somewhat surprising as I saw multiple people with disabilities, mostly intellectual/developmental, and it would seem the congregation is comfortable with disability. I also noted that they have at least some ministry outreach to Indy's large Burmese population. Overall, this was a middle-of-the-road experience for me. I didn't really feel welcome, though I also didn't really feel ignored or rejected. The congregation is definitely mostly older and my sense was they probably skewed conservative. My sense was that if I appeared regularly that I would likely eventually be greeted. I did really like a sense of welcome for the kids - I'm always a bit bothered when fidgety kids are sent outside. I think it's important for kids to be in the service and I felt like a couple of fidgety toddlers were embraced. As evidenced by the fact that a 60-year-old congregation didn't even have a Yelp page, St. Pius's older population and more traditional service would likely not resonate as deeply with those seeking a more contemporary experience but I found it somewhat soothing. The auditorium had plenty of space in the back for wheelchairs, though I didn't see any other identified places and I would note that during the standing portions of the service it was difficult to see and fully participate. While I doubt I'll return for a second experience, for those seeking a more traditional Catholic experience with mostly, but not exclusively, older congregants St. Pius offers a wonderful option.

You need love above all, but you know you are loved here when you come back and people remember your name. You know you're loved when a relative's funeral is needed and the mass honors their memory. This is a family and a community more than anything. Not just any community, but Jesus and the values of prayer and service that he stood for live here. Come adore Him!

Beautiful little church just outside of Speedway. I am not an Orthodox Christian, but I have…read morevisited here a few times over the years with my father who is a member. Everyone I have met at Ss. Constantine and Elena have been very kind and welcoming. Visitors and converts are quite welcome. Some suggestions I would make to non-Orthodox visiting: Do not go up to receive communion if you are not an Orthodox Christian. No drinking or eating of any kind is allowed in the sanctuary (the main body of the church where people worship), but you can step out if you need a sip of water. There is a nursery for young children. There are speakers in these other parts of the church so that you may hear the readings even if you need to step out. The church also has a very nice basement for gatherings. There are restrooms down there. I believe they hold classes there for school-age children as well. There are quite a lot of stairs here heading to the front entrance as well as to go downstairs inside, but I am sure someone will be able to offer assistance to those that might have trouble with stairs. I have also heard that the church will be undergoing an addition and remodel in the near future. Ss. Constantine and Elena consists of a small congregation that is ever growing. It is very interesting to see the inside of this church as well as the customs which are quite different than my church. I am glad to have visited and learned more about their faith. My most recent visit was very late at night and a man rushed up toward us from across the street (near midnight)... I have never heard of anything serious happening in the parking lot of the church, but it is situated in a rough neighborhood that is no stranger to shooting deaths. I would just caution anyone visiting, especially at night, to be aware of their surroundings. The doors are kept locked most of the time. It is nice to see that the church has remained as many others have closed and rebuilt in the suburbs. The church does run a food pantry for the needy in the area though I do not know their procedures off hand. I would call the church if you would like information on how to donate to their pantry. Overall, a very pleasant experience visiting here. I would urge anyone that is interested in learning more about Orthodoxy to attend sometime.

Northminster Presbyterian Church is a member of PC-USA (progressive side of the Presbyterian…read moreDenomination). Right on the edge of what would be considered Broad Ripple proper, Northminster has been around for over 75 years and is located directly on Kessler Boulevard. This is very much a residential church set smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood. It has parking both in front of and behind the church with accessible parking spots on both sides. I entered through the back of the church and the entry had a single door that was easily accessible (I think it was an automatic door, as well). The church has two floors and does have an elevator. As I was present for an event, I did not explore the church and can't speak to full accessibility. I will note that I went to a main set of bathrooms that weren't really accessible - I could get into the bathroom, but the stalls were definitely lacking. I think there were single-user bathrooms near the sanctuary that are a bit better. Rev. Brian Shivers is senior pastor. Rev. Karen Herbst-Kim is associate pastor. PC-USA does ordain women and LGBTQ ministers, though you will find both conservative and liberal members of PC-USA congregations. I was present last evening for the last in a year-long concert series called "Sound and Spirit." It's an outreach of The Arts at Northminster and is definitely a draw for the church. The concerts are always free. This year's series included The Jeremiahs (Irish traditional), Palermo Presents (classical), Rob Dixon Trio (Jazz), Requiem in D Minor (Classical), Carolyn Craig, Organ (Classical), and Blue Highway (Bluegrass). The concerts are in the sanctuary. It's a fairly traditional sanctuary that has recently been made a bit more accessible with a couple of shortened pews offering natural wheelchair seating. They also, I learned, replaced a couple doors on the side that weren't quite accessible. I had no trouble going through them. There was a wider wheelchair that was outside the sanctuary in an area that appears to be used by parents with small children. I actually spent part of the evening there. I would probably give accessibility a 3.5 out of 5, though there's an obvious effort being made with recent improvements and an attitude of welcome that is nice. The parking spots were true ADA spots (rare for churches and not even true for my now home church of Second Presbyterian). I'd attended a couple services years ago here before a tragedy claimed the lives of the pastor and his wife. A plaque in their memory still rests on a wall in the church. Northminster has a "come as you are" approach to worship. While most dress business casual, there's not a judgmental approach to more casual folks (like me). Services are also streamed online including many of the special services. They host a variety of community activities including a preschool, yoga, music lessons, and more. While I'm happy in my church home, there's definitely something special here at Northminster with a wonderful staff, friendly congregation, progressive spirit, and a strong arts focus. For those seeking a more progressive yet traditional worship service Northminster would be a great place to explore.
