Office staff is terribly rude and unprofessional. Almost impossible to get through and when they do answer the phone their attitude is snippy and condescending. I had a procedure and tried reaching out. Dr. Cabansag was very slow with replies (despite her claim that she replies in 24-48 hours). I made several phone calls to the front desk; when the lady finally did answer she said something to the effect off 'why do you keep calling' !? Dr. Cabansag also confidently misdiagnosed my condition and thousands of dollars later she had the gall to suggest I redo the procedure with her. Went to another doctor and had my issue then diagnosed correctly. 0/5 for front office. 1/5 for Cabansag, mostly because she gave my a free brochure for a procedure I didn't need. read more

This clinic sent me to collections after I paid my bill. Shameful. No follow up from them to explain or apologize. Now my credit score is impacted because of their incompetence and lack of care. The collections agency is still waiting on their confirmation of the receipts I sent which they told me usually takes them 3-4 weeks(!) to send back. Almost a month to confirm something that was their mess up. Medical experience was fine although the waiting room of the office itself could probably use a deep clean. read more

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is review is related to my experience with Dr Cabansag's asst, as well as the front office/reception staff; this review does NOT relate to Dr Cabansag's actual care. I contacted Dr Cabansag's office on Tue 3/28/23 (main line) and was told to expect a return call from Carla in 1-2 days. I am patient and understanding, so two days pass and I assume they're busy. I let it go through the weekend and finally receive my retuen call one week later on 4/4/23. I immediately return the call (4/4) and boom; no answer. Leave message. Followed-up on Wed 4/5, left message. Guess what? No return call. Tried again on 4/6 and, surprise; no return call. At that point I just gave-up because if getting a return call for a routine colonoscopy is THIS difficult, I imagined that getting any administrative details completed would be a frustrating task. I held-off on posting my review until I knew for sure this office was not on the table (I thought I might go to a different Dr in the same practice and a negative review might become very uncomfortable). I am kind of glad this happened because it forces me to move on from potential continued frustrations when dealing with this office. So, now I am back to the drawing board and saw that some other people have had problems with the office staff, so I was all like fuuuuuuck that entire situation. It's a shame because these might be brilliant doctors but I'll never know because the administrative side either way understaffed (not a sign of a good practice) OR inept (also a bad sign). Either way, I am looking for new doctors and checking Yelp and I see some others have experienced administrative challenges too. read more

It all makes sense now after seeing the other reviews. I got a referral from my PCP to get a colonoscopy from Dr. Cabansag. However, I will never get one from her because scheduling is a nightmare straight out from the Stone Age. I will never understand how in a high tech city like SF, making an appt can be so difficult. read more

They've gone months without giving results and they just sit on it and then they don't even call doctors or the patients to let them know what's going on. Please don't waste your time. I was lucky to have found Dr. Cabansag for a not-so-fun routine procedure. She and her staff were a pleasure to work with from beginning to "end". The communication, professionalism & care they take is unsurpassed. I also have to mention Dr. Chung-the anesthesiologist whom she had assisting in the procedure. He has a fantastic way with his patients and his lighthearted manner definitely calmed my mood. read more

I'm only giving one star because you have to give a star to give a review, but they would receive no stars if it was possible. I went to Dr. Cabansag for a procedure and the procedure itself went OK. However, Dr. Cabansag's office sent my lab work to an out of network lab, even though her office is contracted with my insurance company Blue Shield of California. When I had called her office before procedure took place I was assured my insurance would cover the entirety of the procedure and results. But because her office sent it to an out of lab network that Blue Shield isn't contracted with, Dr. Cabansag's office sent me a bill of a few thousand dollars. I appealed this claim through Blue Shield of California and during that process I called the billing office to let them know that, yet they kept sending me bills in the mail for the claim that was being appealed. Never once has her billing office called me back during this process, even now after the appeal/claim was adjusted and finalized they are threatening to send this now outdated bill to collections. Dr. Cabansag's office has been unprofessional and negligent throughout this entire process. I would recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

My son went to Dr. Cabansag for an endoscopy and the endoscopy went fine. The problem is the doctor/office sent the specimen sample that was taken to a lab that was out of network. This has resulted in a $3380 charge from the lab because the claim was rejected by the Medical Group - Hill Physicians SF Inc - that processes the claims. Dr. Cabansag is a member of Hill Physicians Medical Group and Blue Shield HMO contracts with them to process claims for professional services and the doctor used Genesis Healthcare Partners to do the lab work and though they are in the Blue Shield network, they are not in the Hill Physicians SF network so they rejected the claim. Had the doctor used the lab that was contracted by her own medical group the patient responsibility would have been $0.00. My son called the doctors office & surgery center prior to the surgery and was assured the patient financial responsibility was $0.00. Now he is stuck appealing the claim with BS and hoping they agree to pay the claim. This is 100% the fault of the doctor or her office using a lab that is different from the one contracted by her medical group. read more

I had a procedure; the doctor never contacted me. I called the office about a follow-up; they wanted me to wait two months to see her. I've been in serious discomfort for over two years. I never saw her in person. It was always on the phone. I have had outstanding GI doctors before; they always followed up. This is bad bedside manners. I don't recommend this doctor. read more

I went to Dr. Cabansag a few years ago and had a positive experience at the time. She wasn't able to fix the underlying causes of the conditions I have but ended up giving me a medication that helped with some of the symptoms. I've been taking the medication for years. I attempted to change pharmacies recently and reached out to their office to have my prescription transferred. They said no problem. I called the pharmacy after a few days and they said they had not received it. I messaged Dr. Cabansag's office again, asking them to re-send the prescription. After a few weeks, I had received no response. I messaged them back, emphasizing it was urgent, as I was almost out of medication. After a few days (after I had run out completely), I got a response saying I needed to set up an appointment before they would refill my prescription. The appropriate approach to this would have been to proactively message me *before* my prescription runs out to notify me if I needed to schedule an appointment before my refill. 3 months in advance would be reasonable. 1 month in advance would be inconvenient but doable. After I've run out of medication is not. Saying you will refill it, not doing it, not responding for weeks, then saying you won't do it at all does not give the impression of competence or that you are planning for my health. Not really going to play games with my health like this. Completely unprofessional. Judging by the other reviews on here, it seems like the quality of care and professionalism in this office has really gone downhill. read more

Late last year, following several months of increasing discomfort and pain, I went to see Dr. Cabansag, which resulted in a colonoscopy. Dr. Cabansag, her nurses, and the anesthesiologist were all kind and compassionate and gave me a feeling of security. They made sure that I was comfortable and explained the procedure to me from beginning to end. I felt well cared for. Dr. Cabansag delivered my diagnosis with compassion, despite it being difficult news to deliver, and took the time to answer all of my questions. In addition, she referred me to a surgeon that was extremely skilled, experienced, and highly regarded in his field. Thanks to her staff, particularly Ernie, the care does not end when you walk out the door. I was amazed to receive follow up calls to check up on me and see if there was anything he could do to help me. He further exceeded my expectations by actually following up on multiple occasions and helping me navigate. To this day he continues to go above and beyond and I find this absolutely extraordinary. I am grateful to Dr. Cabansag, Ernie and her nursing staff. Given the amount of experience I have now had with the medical industry, this team stands out and I would highly recommend them. read more

This doctor cancelled my appointment at the last minute after forcing me to buy a prescription for a branded prep kit that costs $100 out of pocket when the normal option is generic and would have been $5. I complained and her nurse Stacey said they don't put up with sh*t from patients and was cancelling my appointment. i would never use them. read more

Dr. Cabansag is very thorough and kind. I am definitely in good hands while in her care and have been a patient of hers for 2 years. She has helped me control my symptoms, provided me with treatment options, and is always willing to take the necessary time to speak with me about any questions I might have. Her attention to detail is much appreciated. The office staff is very nice and professional as well. I've never been a huge fan of going to see a doctor, but Dr. Cabansag and her team (notably Ernie) changed that. They are incredibly kind and patient, and they have gone the extra 500 miles to get me the care that I need. It can be really scary and confusing when symptoms that previously never existed in your life become a reality, so I'm grateful that this team has my back. I can't imagine going anywhere else for stomach issues in the future. read more

After multiple follow ups and office staff hangin up the phone on me I email Dr. Cabansang who stated that the office was understaffed. I was referred to Dr. Cabansag for a routine colonoscopy by my primary physician following my 50th birthday. Her office communication is very good and they offered me an anti-anxiety pill by prescription before the procedure so that when I showed up I would not be nervous. And the day of the procedure, everything went smoothly. The facility she uses is very convenient and modern. The staff are wonderful from Ying the nurse who gave me my IV and got me ready to the anesthesiologist to the other assistants to the recovery nurse and Dr. Cabansag herself. I was unconscious with the IV sedation during the procedure so I had no idea what was going on. Apparently it only lasted 10 minutes. Afterwords I had absolutely no discomfort and though I felt a little groggy from the sedation. I was fine and now I am back at home eating again. It's true that the most unpleasant part of this process is the preparation the night before but if you have ever had a stomach bug it's basically the same thing but without a fever or chills. Anyway I recommend Dr. Cabansag and will use her again for my next one. read more

Dr. Cabansag and her staff were absolutely amazing. The quality of care was bar none and made me feel listened to and understood. The best part of the whole experience was that all of my information was made available via the patient portal and I could also chat with an administrative staff to schedule appointments and ask about results. SFGI definitely is ahead of the healthcare curve by integrating valuable software platforms that makes it easy to gain access to health records as well as financial statements. The portal is very intuitive and uncluttered without bulky information. Sleek, clean and to the point! I'd recommend SFGI and Dr. Cabansag to anyone. Very happy patient. read more
