Ask the Community - Catholic Medical Center

Has anybody ever been evaluated by an actual doctor in the CMC ED? Nurses & techs were fantastic, by the way. Just wondering if it's standard practice in their ED to use PAs rather than MDs?

Hi Kimberly! Our Emergency Department is staffed by US Acute Care Solutions. You may be treated by a MD, PA-C, or APRN. I hope that helps!

I initially sought care after being advised by an urgent care provider to follow up with a specialist sooner rather than later. When I first contacted the office to schedule an appointment, I was informed that new patients were not being scheduled until August. I accepted this and ended the call. However, the following morning I received a call from your office asking if I could come in that same day at 11:00 AM. No explanation was provided for the urgency, so I assumed the doctor may have reviewed my imaging and felt it was important for me to be seen promptly. When I arrived, the check-in process was smooth, the wait time was short, and the nurse who brought me back was courteous and professional. Unfortunately, my interaction with Dr. Gould was very disappointing. Upon entering the room, his demeanor felt dismissive and rushed. After briefly examining the lump, he simply stated that it was indeed a lump and then presented two options: he could remove it, or I could leave it alone and monitor it. At no point during the visit was I given an explanation of what the lump might be, what the potential diagnoses could include, whether it was urgent or likely benign, or what risks were associated with either option. When I began asking, "What would you recommend...," before I could finish my question Dr. Gould interrupted me and stated, "I gave you two options, you'll have to decide which one." As a patient who is not medically trained and who was understandably concerned about a mass that had been discovered, I was hoping for guidance, explanation, and an opportunity to ask questions. Instead, the interaction felt dismissive and left me without the information needed to make an informed medical decision. Because of this experience, I left the appointment feeling frustrated, confused, and without answers about a health concern that had already caused significant anxiety. I hope this feedback can be used to improve communication with patients in situations where they are seeking clarity, reassurance, and professional guidance regarding potentially serious health issues.

I…read morecan't say how many times I have called and spoken to the staff and even a nurse (I think) regarding my referrals to specialists. Their answer is the same " they faxed it and they have confirmation even though I tell them the specialist says they never received it". The last person I spoke to today (supposed to be clinical) was nasty and refused to take the extra step to call to verify my referral was received when she said she will fax it again. I will be transferring my care sadly because I really do like my PCP there. They really have to work on better training in that office. I work in the medical field and this not how you keep patients. They will leave.

My regular doctor is Dr. Donascimento, who is fine. No complaints there, really. However, I…read morecalled to make an appointment with her because my ear was bothering me, but the staff there told me she is "really booked up" and booked me an appointment with "Dr. Duwel" for a week out. When you're in discomfort, this is a very long time to wait, but I get it. The day of my appointment, I walk in with the electronic version of my insurance card. I was informed by the receptionist that they need my physical card instead. I'm okay with this, but she was pretty rude about it. Would probably benefit this woman to learn a bit of tact. As for my appointment with Dr. Duwel; picture in your mind an old time country family doctor. One who is concerned for you and your family's well-being and asks questions to get to know you, and is quite personable. Dr. Duwel is the antithesis of that. He is rude, snide, condescending and will go out of his way to try and make you feel like an idiot for having concerns about your own health. It is fairly obvious to me that he got into this profession not to help people, but for the "prestige" of simply being a doctor for the sake of it. I am also fairly certain he is an opioid addict based on his demeanor.
