Again my husband was in this hospital and it is understood that there are a lot of changes going on so people should be patient. Anyway, all of the staff from admissions to discharge were fantastic. There are some needed changes such as communication but overall, very pleased. If you had a bad experience write a letter, please don't cut the hospital down for something that you feel was done to you. You are one in a million people they see and care for. read more

Nursing care sparse: rare bed change, tough to get drinking water. My husband's room did not have hot water and in 17 days, he only got warm water to wash up with 2 times! Two med errors that I know of. Nurse admitted she forgot my husband's blood pressure medication. He was a fresh MI and it was a routine morning med! The second error I caught as he hadn't gotten his morning meds as of 11:00. I asked about it and the physician assistant from cardiology was considering raising the dose of his blood pressure medication due to high readings, The communication with the cardiothoracic team was a total clown show! We got multiple dates and times for his surgery several times a day. His after care in ICU was a much better experience but I truly can't recommend CMC in any way. read more

Things have literally fallen apart at this place, from every single PCP quitting, to THEM canceling my appointments over and over literally not even 24 hours before my appointment (after I checked in online) then suddenly yet ANOTHER PCP is leaving, I can't even get medication on time anymore, it's turned into a complete sh*tshow the last 2 years!! read more

care can be good. But the worst experience with switchboard.. I was trying to get help to be able to get on their patient portal. After about four attempts online, I called and explained my problem. The woman said that there was nobody here that could help me. She said there was nobody at CMC who could help me with technical support. Then she said she will check her account when she gets home from work tonight. I said so going to call me back on ? And she said I'm not calling you back. So I called the switchboard back two more times and one time they tried to connect me and I was disconnected after that line rang. Then I called back again and I was disconnected from the switchboard. I called back again and was disconnected again. Went for an MRI of my brain and they told me that they had to do three separate X-rays before the MRI. I've never had that happen since having to go here for all my mris. Also didn't know I was going to have contrast either. Absolutely NO COMMUNICATION WHATSOEVER!! read more

Went to the CMC ER tonight with the worst pain I have ever had. Had a serious fall that damaged my back. Waited 3.5 hours for nothing! Well not nothing, they were very quick to verify insurance and payment info and they did give me an ice pack... other than that they made me wait in wildly painful chairs and never checked in. Went to Elliott, they began tests right away and set me up with x-ray during triage. A very different attitude. It's your health it's your time it's your life.... pick well! read more

Rude nurse..bossey little thing. Hey, I'm sick here..give me a break. Food was beyond retched. I mean really retched! Imagine getting a piece of dried out meatloaf, a tablespoon(I am not making this up) of potatoes and one small piece each of soggy, overcooked NASTY tiny pieces of veggies. Salad was good, so that's all I ate that night. Ordered AM omelette with veggies, cheese, etc. Rec'd a really skinny crepe-IIke something with NOTHING inside. Fruit side was good. I regret not taking pix. Never did speak directly with doctor. They discussed my Dx and Tx with my daughter WITHOUT my permission. Yeah, I've had formal med training quite some years ago, so I'm not without knowledge of how things should be. Always hated Elliot, but beginning to see them in a new light. Neither place inspires me, not like the three wonderful hospitals I used and trained at in Bridgeport,CT. Both have maintained their reputation to this day. Stay far away from this facility. The place is a dump and a scary place to be when treated like you are not welcome in the hospital....that you are a nuisance and would get the least help possible. It was my worst nightmare. The rooms were much too small for two beds. You could hardly get around. My knee scooter did not fit in the bathroom. So I was unable to use the toilet or the sink. The food was inedible and unacceptable ....truly disgusting. At one point, a nurse commented that he had just stepped on and killed a spider under my bed. In the four days I was there the room and the bathroom were not cleaned. If you used the portable potty the same liner was left all night even if you used it five times. Gross. The liner needs to be changed every time. When I asked it to be changed by an aide she said "It's not full yet". Really? HCA has spent millions redoing the entrance for show but have done nothing for the patient's comfort. It is a total tear down top to bottom. something out of a Third World country with substandard care. How in the world do they pass inspections? I would rather die than go back to that hellhole. The only positive moment of my stay was when April came on as my nurse. She was absolutely amazing. I don't know how she does it with the nasty, unprofessional folks she's working with, but she makes it happen. April, Thank you for really saving my sanity. The most bizarre situation is that although you may have two patients in the same room with the same surgeon with more or less the same surgery, they assign two different nurses and neither nurse can help in any way the patient they are not assigned to.. That must be the most expensive way to handle manpower. With the frustration level for the patient off the charts. I am thoroughly disgusted, and I wouldn't go back there to save my life. By the way, every single employee is looking for a job elsewhere or they've already left. I became a shareholder because of another HCA Purchase Portsmouth regional Hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This place is fantastic! While no one wants to be in a hospital, the care and attention that they are giving my family member who is here, is top-notch. There is nothing that I can think of that would make her stay here easier or better. The staff is all very knowledgeable and knows how to explain things to us in language we all understand without talking down to us. So refreshing from other hospitals I've been to. Surprised at entering an ER and have no continuously manned reception desk. Just fill out paper with name, time and a very basic reason. Wait to be called. I have no complaints about the testing done in the ER, completed soon enough after being checked in. The communication procedures, however, are not adequate. Because I had the CMC app, I received test results. No verbal communication from a CMC employee but perhaps that was that due to having the app? About an hour after the last test result was received, I went to the glass enclosed reception area, a person was there; I asked if more testing was scheduled - none were. Asked what my next step was, do I see the PA, should I leave, are there papers to sign? Quickly I was brought to the person who began the final process, test results, diagnoses, advice. Then to registration and out. I expect long waits in any ER, I know they are always busy, 4 to 5 hours are average. Not keeping a patient informed what is next, just sitting in the waiting room, is a lack of concern for the patients. read more

Your maternity nurses are rude and passive aggressive. Berating me after I just had a baby because I didn't know how much I weighed. These are probably people that have never experienced having a baby, but hire nurses with actual bedside manner. The billing department is very disorganized. I provided my insurance at intake. They called me the week after and said they didn't have my insurance. I provided it again. Fast forward 90 days and they are sending me bills saying they need my insurance. Very nice people treated me, but the business office appears to poorly led and ran. read more

They send all of the top of the class physicians to Massachusetts and apparently, send the, "bottom of the barrel" physicians to the E.R. here at Catholic medical. NEVER have I ever ran into such slow, rude, ignorant, opinionated (not factual) doctors in all my life! I am appalled at the low class doctors in the E.R. especially the ones on shift 12/30 at 3pm. A family member had to go there (all the area ambulances are contracted to go there). My relative was comatose, but was completely awake and could hear everything that the doctors were saying and doing. They hurt my relative and even left bruises. My Mom was recently at CMC after a vascular surgery. The surgery was successful, but the care was horrible! Definitely not "patient centered", by any means. Everything is at the nurses pace, which varies from shift to shift. The doctor told my Mom to bring her own inhaler, and even wrote it down on the surgical instructions. The nurses locked up the inhalers, and said she could only use them when THEY said she could. More like "nurse centered" care. I would not go to CMC myself. read more

I had heart problems, Covid and was treated with great respect and drs every day. never had a terriable nurse. all concerned, friendly and go out of way. maybe the patient thought they were the only patient , they r not. there r shortages and a lot happening. They have gone down hill significantly in there care for elderly. Not surprised they are over booked and understaffed as they send people home exactly how they arrived and expect things to be different. Often call buttons go unanswered for 30 minutes especially if its an elderly patient. Family has to push to get procedures done but often the outcome is there is nothing more we can do and little to no efforts are made. This was the worst experience I have had in an ER. The service was slow even though they claimed they were not that busy. The ER doctor basically refused to listen to what we had to say. We felt like we were being held hostage so they could charge the insurance company for long or more services. The floors were filthy and the staff was very slow to respond. Husband went in for heart issues at the request of his VA cardiologist. They barely glanced at his health history paperwork and they did nothing for him. They like to throw people out for asking questions about their care and wondering when they will be seen by a doctor after being told they have internal bleeding. the staff threatens to call security for simply being upset about the lack of care (even worse is that when low on blood your thinking can be affected and that should be known by ANY medical "professional") and make you wait outside in the freezing cold for someone to pick you up. I want to update my previous post. I was a patient of Dr. Bleakley. I have not seen him since 2022. I had made two appointments and both were cancelled by his office. I asked for a referral but was denied. I also do not have a PCP as she moved and I don't know where. I just found another PCP but she has no openings until January 2025. I have a stent and also heart failure and CMC shut off my medication. Due to their refusal for a referral, I am not able to get any medications nor am I able to get tests done. I was told by John in patient relations that it would be a disservice for them to give me a referral because they haven't seen me in two years. As if stopping my medication's without any notice is not a disservice?? Stopping my medication is worse than not giving me a referral. And then I was told to go to urgent care so I could get my medications which help keep me alive! So I can go to a doctor that I've never seen before and he can give me my medication but yet a doctor that I have seen before cannot give It to me! It's unbelievable what our healthcare has come to. read more

Couldn't have gone more wrong. Had breast cancer surgery at this hospital (only one Dr.). Labs came back they got it all, but two positive sentinel lobes. Got a second opinion. Found out the lab was wrong and cancer margins were not gone. When you file a complaint so they can improve, you'll be ignored and chastised. Horrible experience in the ER months ago. Went in for severe headaches and dizziness. I was told by my primary care if things got worse, to go to the ER so that's what I did. First of all, I waited in the empty waiting room for over an hour. Finally they call me in and they stick me in a storage closet for 5 hours, only being seen by a nurse once who tried telling me I was just dehydrated when I hadn't even had any tests done yet. Shame on me for actually sitting in the storage closet for that long but I had never been in an ER before and I was super anxious and just wanted help/answers. When I told him I didn't want the IV because I knew I wasn't dehydrated he gave me attitude and never came back again. The ER nurse Frank made me feel SO unwelcome and like I was a burden for being there. He was rude and made many comments basically making fun of me for thinking I should be in the ER. I'm writing this now months later because I'm pregnant and while I was researching hospitals for labor, this hospital was on the list I was given and it reminded me of my terrible experience. I went to Catholic Medical Center twice in the past 5 weeks and I can't say enough about the quality and type of care I received there. I was hospitalized overnight and innumerable staff members interacted with me during both my experiences there and I have not met one single person who wasn't warm and genuinely caring. They treated my health issues both times. I can't understand the negative reviews posted about CMC as my experiences there have been the opposite of what those negative reviews express. I want to add that both Dr. Michael Bagin and Dr. Brook Biladeau were wonderful and their bedside manners were truly exceptional. I couldn't be happier with the care I received at CMC the two times I was there. read more
